D'OH! Firefox ate my first reply.

Shadow Veil req's monk 6; you could do rog 13 / monk 6 / <splash> 1, but in that case you're in the same spot as my original build, with the same problem: namely your Assassinate DCs will be 8 below what a pure rogue gets (7 for non-rog lvls, 1 for not having +2 INT capstone). There's no way you can make up that difference. You're also a lot more feat-starved than my rgr-6-based build was: monk 6 grants 3 free feats, but you'll want to take at least Master of Forms and probably 10K Stars; rgr 6 grants two melee & four ranged feats free, with no pre-reqs for the PrEs anymore.

    Default Quaterstaff Build needed

I am a long time player that has taken a break from the game for quite some time now. I have always been interested in a quarterstaff build but I am not a very good builder. Couple that fact and the new enhancement system and I am completely lost. I have all races, classes, 32-point builds, and can start at level 7. As I am starting on a new server I have very little money and no tomes. I am looking for quarterstaff build that uses monk and rouge. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I haven't updated my Three Ring Circus thread for U19 yet; but I still think rog 13 / monk 6 is a solid basis for a staff build. However, one of the major changes in U19 is that you can front-load the atk speed bonus from Acrobat on just a splash; i.e., you don't need to rog 12 anymore for the +15% atk speed bonus. So this opens up a lot more MCing options, inc. caster-based; see my Drunken Stick thread for a druid version. Cleric instead of druid would also work well, I think; spamming bursts in between spamming cleaves.

That's really the issue- Ranger's utility is what enables me to do what I do, but the only Ranged option I really have is the crossbow with INT mod if I want my DC to be up there. The bleed on the GC is really awesome, but with no real replacement for burst, I'd be hard pressed to do it this way. Even a thrower with 10k Stars does better, but then it's a WIS based quivering palm Monk and it's really, really hard to fit everything in there, though Ooze flask and Tanglefoot could be useful in crowd management enough to consider 20 Rogue- I'd just really, really miss the ability to hang back on raid bosses when I'm worried about dying.

I dunno. Assassian with a range alternative isn't looking great- the clear winner is still your original build xD

I'm looking for a 34 pt favored soul & monk who fights with handwraps and fights melee like a monk but casts spells like a favored soul. I was using an 18/2 The Really Good FvS, modified as this build uses scimitars and I wanted handwraps, but I'm now unsure what enhancements to take under the new system.

Do you have anything in mind for your race and feats?
For just the enhancements, something like this may be up your alley:

Enhancement: Warpriest (Fvs) - Divine Intervention (Rank 2)
Enhancement: Warpriest (Fvs) - Divine Intervention (Rank 3)
This gives you full BaB, 90% offhand strike chance, tons of HP from monk and Warpriest, and some other goodies that makes your offensive casting not terrible.

If you're looking for a melee/caster FvS I would recommend a 17 FvS/3 Monk split as a drow, using DEX for damage and shortswords. It allows you to get tons of bonuses to shortswords via drow, gives you the monk light buffs, and makes it a lot easier to build- though you will lose out on stunning fist, at least you're not doing less base damage because you're limited by your unarmed die.

Thanks for your reply and great list of enhancements. I'm an elf right now but if this is not an ideal race I'm interested in hearing suggestions such as the drow if I end up doing another true resurrection. I'm only level 10 right now so that might be a little while. Would you suggest 17/3 for the elf as well? As for feats, my current plan is from the Really Good Fvs that I linked in my first post, but I know this build is less than recent.

Essentially, you'll want to take advantage of the bonus to the enhancements and boost in DPS with Warpriest- the most synergy being TWF as well as a centered favored weapon, which would be shortsword. Undying Court is drow exclusive, and uses longswords while as an elf or any other race, you would need Whirling Steel Strike (Which is really difficult to fit feats in for) or would need to use longbows, which is a whole other build entirely.

However, you don't have to be centered to use some monk bonuses. The really good favored soul was not centered. The draw to being centered though is now you can be in master or grandmaster stances as any class as long as you have monk levels. The feats are extremely rough because they're all so backloaded, but look something like:

    1 Empower Healing
    2M Two Weapon Fighting
    3 Maximize
    3M Precision
    6 Adept
    9 iTWF
    12 Master
    15 Quicken Spell
    18 gTWF
    21 Imp. Critical: Peirce
    24 Grandmaster

If you don't want to be centered, you can really use any weapon that you'd like and still do really well- depending on what weapons you want to use, I would recommend one of the chosen weapons for some very nice extra stuff:
    Greatsword (Warforged Only)
    Longbow
    Longsword
    Scimitar (Elf Only)
    Shortsword (Drow Only)

My character is modified from the really good fvs because I do want to be centered. I am meleeing with the low level monk abilities & Stunning Fist.

Default Half-Orc Melee Cleric or FVS Build needed

Hey, I'd like to LR+20 my HalfOrc Barbarian into a melee FVS or Cleric Build. I don't think of a uber healer/caster, just need some basic heals to be more self-sufficient and solo some quests.

I got some good barb gear like Epic Antique Greataxe (his main weapon). But got some items I can spare from my other healers too.

Tried a few things on the planner, but this has been a headache to me. Hope someone can help.

    Thanks.

Hassan's Assassin is a super high damage build, he lists the drow variant at the bottom.

Any ideas for a solid Dwarven fighter tank build. One that utilizes both his inherit dwarven axe gifts, armor mastery as well as some good THF damage, yet able to maintain some solid agro and deal out a "whuppin"

I do have access to a 36 point (3rd life past lives include ftr/mnk/barb)

    Any suggestions?

There are a few areas where I think drow can excel, post-U19:
    • Sorc or wiz: +4 INT/CHA and +1 Enchantment DCs (combine w/Archmage bonuses). Sorcs are better nukers, wizs are better for CC / instakills and have more survivability from Pale Master (undead forms + Death Aura / Neg Energy Burst).
    • Artificer (ranged+caster): again, +4 INT to boost DPS & DCs, +2 DEX helps with ranged feat pre-reqs (namely IPS & Combat Archery). Pretty good soloer, too; can take Construct Essence until UMD is high enough for CCW wands / Heal scrolls.
    • TWF using rapiers and/or short swords for drow racial bonuses, with Balizarde or Celestia as endgame goals. [Will be even better if/when Turbine finishes the racial PrEs and drow get Tempest for +20% offhand procs.] Maelodic already linked an assassin build; I also think they're a natural fit for pallies due to +CHA & DEX. Shameless plug: see my Faithsworn Hunter for one post-U19 option.

So once you narrow down what you want to play, it'll be easier to point you to the right build.

There were a couple of major changes in U19 which nerfed classic S&B fighters:
    • The big one is the doublestrike capstone - which was the main incentive for staying pure - is in the Kensei tree; the SD capstone is rather blah. It is possible to take the capstone from one tree while taking the T5 enhs from another - e.g., 41 APs in Kensei tree for capstone, 33 APs in SD to get Block & Cut - but that leaves only a few pts to spend in your racial tree.
    • By comparison, multiclassed monk builds received several buffs, inc. being centered w/any melee weapon if you have One w/Blade (T5 Kensei enh), extra PRR in Earth stance in Shintao tree, using Concentration instead of Intim for threat checks, and being able to take higher stances as chosen feats. On top of existing monk abilities, like Shadow Veil (25% Incorp) and Imp Evasion with monk 9+, monk / Kensei now make for highly survivable melee DPS toons with decent hate-tanking. [My hunch is S&B can still hit higher threat & PRR, but is it enough to matter?]

That said, I dusted off an old alt to see what I could do with a pure dwarven ftr these days. Here's the build I'm working with now:
    Code:
Character Plan by DDO Character Planner Version 04.19.02

    Will: 6

    Abilities Base Stats Modified Stats
    (32 Point) (Level 1) (Level 28)
    Strength 18 29

She's only lvl 10 (just got my Giantcraft Plate), so couldn't tell you how she performs in epics. But here's what I think is wrong with it.

    • I love using tactics feats, but I'm not sure I'll be able to keep my DCs relevant, even with all the DC bonuses I have (+2 SD capstone +3 kensei +4 Power Surge +dwarf racials); and I had to sacrifice some DPS to get them. So I may decide to swap S.Blow / I.Trip / I.Sunder for some Weap Foc / Spec for more DPS, which also frees up some APs.
    • What I really want is enough APs for Dwarf Fortress + Kensei capstone + Block & Cut; but that would probably require 90-100 APs, so sacrifices must be made. Here I went for max Dwarf Fortress + Power Surge + SD capstone; still not convinced the latter is worth it, but I'm free to experiment for now.
    • The changes to Divine Might means there's a strong incentive to splash cleric or FvS on any melee build to add DM; pally works too, though you need more than 1 lvl.
    • If I decide to drop the capstone, then a pally splash for Divine Grace is really attractive, considering how important saves are, particularly in epics. Unfortunately, this char started True Neutral, so that's not an option unless I pop for an alignment change.
    • Similarly, a FvS or cleric 2 splash is pretty strong right now: from Warpriest that gets you Smite Foe, Divine Might, +10 PRR, and possibly Inflame & Smite Weakness if you have the APs for it; as well as Echoes of Power, unlocks Heal skill, and access to Emp Heal feat (Rejuv Cocoon FTW!).

It just so happens that I have been playing nothing but dwarven melee builds for the last three months. The first life was a ranger6, fighter 14 build that took tier 5 kensei 'Keen Edge' along with tier 4 tempest 'Whirling Blades' (and of course the 2nd tempest core) and tier 4 dwarven 'Dwarven Weapon Training'. Needless to say, the Greater Two Weapon Fighting feat was also taken as a feat choice. Virtually all feat choices were oriented to maximizing damage output. The single target DPS output of this build was astounding. Cleave and great cleave seem to proc almost instantaneously while dual wielding.

What I had not done with that build however was design for true tanking, for grabbing agg. The second life for this toon I went pure fighter, all 20 levels. Feat choices included all three Two Handed Fighting feats, as dwarven axes when wielded with a shield do glancing blows. I put 41 enhancement points into Kensei for tier five and capstone. I put only 8 points in Dwarf and 31 into Stalwart Defender. While the shield usage was not therefore maximized, it was enough to give me well over 100 AC when I hit level 20. I stuck around in epic long enough to open about two thirds of the epic destinies, and even though I was hopping through unrelated and low level destinies such that they could not much assist me, the build held it's own very satisfactorily in epic normal and hard. The damage output was comparable to many two hand wielders, I usually led the kill count among the melees. And with the very high damage output of maxed kensei multiplied by the threat generation boosts of Stalwart Defender, I was easily able to hold boss agg once I had it.

I am right now using a variant of EllisDee's Tempest Trapmonkey except for replacing the one fighter level in that build with two paladin levels for the saves. 1 Rogue, 17 Ranger and 2 Paladin, going for a dual dwarven axe wielding dwarven tempest. The emphases with that build is less pure DPS, and no attempt to tank. It is rather designed for flexibility, survivability and soloability so I can explore content I do not know with relative impunity.

I however built another toon specifically for doing Shroud while I am TRing my main. That one was built along very similar lines to the above three builds, except for being a purple dragon knight iconic. That one is wielding dual kopeshes instead of dwarven axes. It is currently level 8 fighter, level 6 ranger, and level 1 paladin. His enhancement choices will be tier five kensei (30+ points), tier four tempest (20+ points), with some heal amp from human and whatever tiddly bit extra I can squeeze in from Knight of the Chalice (for killing Shroud outsiders). I have not yet decided if I am going for two, four or six levels of paladin. Paladin levels are there primarily for the save boosts. If I don't go for six paladin levels, I'll add fighter levels for the extra feats. I took him out for a spin today doing the gianthold flagging quests in a pug that included a six year guildie veteran who was doing yet another in a run of TR's, this time some sort of warforged two hander melee. I was pleased to see that the kill count from my new toon actually exceeded even his in the pug, and I do not typically lead the charge.

The ideal dwarven tank I would build right now would be a mix of the second life pure fighter tank, but with a splash of paladin, perhaps even more paladin than fighter. I would do the feats and enhancements virtually identically as previous, except for putting the 31 points into paladin's Sacred Defender instead of fighter's Stalwart Defender. You will have very respectable damage output, sufficient to hold agg without recourse to intimidate, and your saves, AC and Physical Resistance will be more than adequate for most jobs.

About how many levels of paladin vs levels of fighter would you say?
"I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied...
    Learn to swim..."

"This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality
Embrace this moment, remember, we are eternal
All this pain is an illusion"

The first two levels of paladin pay off massively, and the next two levels provide significant benefits, adding Aura of courage, Divine health, and Fear Immunity, that are easily worth the sacrifice of a fighter feat. But that is where the benefits largely end, more paladin levels after that just add a small amount of extra healing to the one charge of Lay On Hands. I would probably therefore go for four levels of paladin and the rest in fighter.

Consider taking magical training as a feat to boost spell points, if and only if you intend to twist Rejuvenation Cocoon. That said, you could always do a feat swap when the character reaches that point and use the feat for something more immediate prior to then.
