    How's the smell?

With that many nerds there has got to be a hygene problem. While I live in Seattle I avoid PAX and other conventions because I hear they are ... offensive to the olfactory senses. I can't stand the smell of BO unless it is my own!

It's not too bad on the first day - I'll let ya know at the end of Sunday.

But, it's kinda like the Ape House at the zoo. Sure, it may hit ya like an olfactory ton of bricks for the first minute or two - but then you adjust and move on. Sure, being in line next to a particularly offensive individual is a challenge - but you can say that about public transit as well.

Okay, that's over stating it quite a bit. It's really not bad, unless you come into contact with the aforementioned offensive type. And, they're not too common.

There is more fun to be had then funk. If you avoid PAX for that reason, I gotta say you are missing out on a lot.

House C favor will be the unlock for Artificer.

Can you ask about why he said that we'd be able to craft Paralyzing weapons with Cannith crafting and yet we still can't?

Thanks for the update Mem, and good luck with the Cove event there.

If you say I am with you there in spirit in your run; would I still get the lifetime VIP if you win?

how do you figure that? they could have made it so there was *no* way to get it without buying the class. like monk. instead, we actually get a shot at earning it while gaining other stuff. really, that's not exactly a horrible fate. and we don't even have to farm every single quest in the game for favor, we just have to do the cannith stuff... frankly, compared to what i would have expected, that's barely anything at all.

    In spirit, sure.

So... any DDO folks at PAX that want to form up to take the challenge?

I'll report back later tonight after the show again, if I have anything else to report on. I'll try to ask some of the questions y'all have put forth, but won't be able to ask them all - nor do I expect to get any substantive answers to some of the questions. But, nothing ventured nothing gained. Figure it's the least I can do for those unable to attend in person.

While the calendar can always change based on a variety of factors, the plan is to have Artificers available to unlock through favor by the end of the year.

Artificers will be like Favored Souls... you can buy them or unlock them via Favor. That Favor being of the appropriately enough the new House C variety. You can buy them for an undisclosed amount (I honestly forgot to ask, so that's my bad) on the day U11 drops. You can unlock them via favor... in U12.

Yep, you read that right - the Favor unlock won't be until the update after this update. So, for the whole next update cycle - anyone you see playing Artificer opened the pocketbook to do so. Not saying that's a bad thing, I mean I've really come to enjoy the class so I'm seriously thinking about it. But, you will not be able to play them without paying for them till U12.

    Ug.

One hand, can see why the Favor Unlock via House C.

Other hand, as a ViP and Favor capped, do not like having to wait until U12 - unless I have misunderstood, I will not be able to play a Arty on launch unless I cough up "X" TP and won't be able to Favor Unlock until U12, at the end of the year!

Which is kinda part of the problem, Cordovan. And I refuse to believe that Turbine thinks that players will be at all happy to hear about this.

You have an Update that focuses on a new class. The name of the Update features this new class. You even feature this new class on the test server, where the points to buy them are freely handed out - the class discounted in price - in order to get people excited about them and playing them. And then people find out that the only way to play said new class for an unspecified measure of time is to pay outright for them.

That kinda sucks, but strike the kinda.

How is it different than when a new adventure pack is released and only VIP's have access to it for a short time? How is it worse than having to buy it as well as the adventure packs? Honestly, I think people were expecting to pay for both and its more of a welcome surprise that something new is coming out that you can get by playing the game. Seriously, as a game with a free to play option and they're still giving players a way to "play in" its rather nice. Yes you will probably have to buy 2 adventure packs (unless you're vip!) but its not like you're buying 2 adventure packs AND a new class.

    You've gone PAX crazy!

If I would have known this a week or more ago I would have thought differently on using my TP to get a True Heart to TR into Arty and upgrading my Account bank x2 in anticipation of playing one Launch day.

I like Arty, want to play an Arty, but this news just sucked a lot of the 'excitement' out of it. Knowing I can't play one without paying until the end of the year, sucks!

    Meh.

It's going to be hard enough to unlock for some people as it is. The quests are all high end so more casual players won't be unlocking it for some time, they'll probably buy it. It just seems we've had all this build up and now people will have to wait another several months unless they want to pony up some extra cash. My point is people are going to buy it anyway so why punish those who could unlock it by making us wait.

They give you a taste for free, then once you are hooked, they make you pay for it. Sounds like a good business plan. Their bills don't pay themselves

Would've been a good reason to go VIP. I'm practically frothing at the prospect of a pewpew pet class frankly so I'll most likely buy it. I've bought everything else except the packs that have come out while I've been VIP for the last few months.

BUT that will depend on the price. The price is why I didn't buy horc and helf (I've got one now I'm VIP mind you), and why I've not bought a personal single character bank slot, although I'd like all those things. Disappointed that VIPs don't get it for free as part of their sub, but pleased it is at least possible to eventually unlock with favour.

Well, to be fair Mem, the extremely positive overall reviews of Artificer probably had something to do with it.
With how much everyone claimed to love them (myself included), I fully expected a TP only availability. The favor unlock option is what surprises me.
With resoundingly positive reviews like that, why wouldn't they try to make some cash off of it? It only makes sense to me.
