    Default str vs dex rogue

Are strength based rogues really that much better? What are the pro's and cons of each? I've been trying to find something that has starting stats at lvl 1 but can't seem to find anything that I can match in character creation.
    Thx

Yes, STR rogues win out. They do more DPS and save a feat (or use it for kopesh for even more DPS)

DEX rogues have a marginally better reflex save and a higher to-hit potential if haven't yet grinded out all the possible str enhancement gear.

Also, technically, better stealth, though many don't make much use of that feature.

STR rogues also can use a wider variety of weapons, they are not restricted to finesseable ones.

So for a halfling how would you place your stats in the character manager?

Strength - Saves you an extra feat; allows you to do more damage and have greater weapon selection.

Dex - ..... well if you want to build an AC rogue, you can go dex. AC has very diminishing returns starting once you hit about level 13, though, that are very hard for a non-grinder to keep up with.

I think I asked the wrong question about starting stats for a strength build? There is so much to read but I'm guessing that you wouldn't go halfling for a str. build?
Sorry if I'm asking alot of question but I am reading through past posts but there is a lot of info and of course the dex vs str debate that never seems to be answered... That and I can't find somthing that states starting stats that I can actually match when I go to make a character..

I have multiple halflings that are Str builds. If nothing else, this makes it much easier to hit Dex requirements for TWF in stat allocation. At worst, it is a slightly better dump stat

Halfling STR build rogue offers 2nd highest dps in the game behind a H-Orc Str build rogue. I posted the dps comparison in this post:

Unless Halfling 28pt, I'd go Str-based, where I'd start with a 16 Str/16 Dex split for races with a Dex bonus.
Otherwise, something like 16+ Str and 15 Dex are fine.

For a Dex-based build, I'd go with 14 Str and 18 Dex, which would be only on a halfling.

Your most important marks for stats are 17 Dex for Improved and Greater Two Weapon Fighting and enough Con for Not Being Despised By Healers. If you are a newer player, my advice for you is:

    14 Str
    16 Dex
    14 Con
    12 Int
    10 Wis
    8 Cha

On a 28 point halfling, and all level-ups into Strength. You will definitely be able to afford a +1 Dex tome before level 15, which is your last chance to start taking ITWF and GTWF.

Halflings make awesome STR based Rogues. My Rogue is a Halfling STR based and I love her. She was actually a DEX build, but re-rolled at level 13 'cause I wanted STR based (yes I could have LR but didn't have the TP for a heart). But IMO, STR is far better than DEX builds.

Personally I would put the two points of Wisdom literally anywhere else. But overall this quoted is excellent advice I was too lazy to type out OP

Draccus has a How to Build a Rogue Thread. It is a good general read.

Right now, Arcane and Divine buffs favor the Str Build, however Dex Builds also get just as much help from the buffs too. Dex Builds trade one or two swings for a higher AC. However, it is really hard to tell the difference when you are playing with a Str and a Dex build rogue.

As for weapon selection, a rogue's damage comes from Backstabbing. If you know how to work Backstabbing, the weapon becomes less important when compared to the damage you can do Backstabbing.

I'm following this guide for my halfling rogue but am wondering what should I get when I have the listed enhancements? I was thinking like spot, hide maybe some trap stuff when I have points? Kinda clueless here.

Compare that to human khopesh with either Quick Draw or PL: Rogue, since humans get the extra feat.

I think the comparisons have been made.

If you decide to go STR, check out this guide.

    str rogue= ~3-5 more damage/hit, to-hit value, save a feat
dex rogue= ~3-5 more reflex, AC, sneak skills

unfortunately, (or fortunately?), as a rogue you most likely have plenty of reflex, not great ac (you have to be specifically geared and built for ac... not sure if rogue even has room for the feats), and good enough sneak skills (which are barely used :/)

    so id say str
adversity is something we face every day - for a true test, give someone power
