Ok, now that I have your attention, seems like a lot of posts in the last few weeks have been regarding "nerfs", immunities, tactics, ease of play, and cheese.
All these complaints, instead of tweaking things here and there, could be fixed by implementing one simple feature....as well as making the game more challenging for all.
AoE spells affect EVERYTHING in their Area of Effect.
Just like old school PnP. My biggest beef with DDO is the fact that "I" can stand in a blade barrier or wall of fire. What? Since when? Oh, since this is a video gamed dumbed down to the lowest intelligence quotient? Ah, I see.
Let's see:
1) Want to use WoF on the shadows and vamps in Vol? Sure, no problem. You may just not want to stand in it.
2) Want to drop a fireball or flamestrike on top of that big mass of meleeing combants? Sure, no problem. Hope you have your Greater Res cloak on.
3) Want to kite the baddies thru that BB? Sure, no problem. Hope you have evasion or can jump high.
I could go on with every spell out there, but.....since the average attention span nowdays is 30 sec, I won't.
Point being, by just adding one simple change to the way those spells work, we could elimininate adding immunities, cheesy tactics, and sloppy play. It would increase teamwork, increase the challenge, and make the game feel more PnP to the old school enthusiast.
You don't like it, makes your life too hard, can't get all your shiny toys in 1 min or less, fine, they make other games just for you. I think Wii and PS3 make "my pretty pony" type games. And WoW is always looking for a few lazy men (or women). But for those of us that enjoy teamwork, challenge, and a shread of "reality" (e.g. fire is hot, so I'm guessing it burns) in our games, give it consideration. Once you adapt, I rather think you might enjoy it more.
Now, I'm not advocating friendly fire in all aspects of the game (though it would be nice), just the AoE spells that dumb down the game and make it easy cheesy as eatin' pancakes. One's such as Wall of Fire, Blade Barrier, Acid Fog, Cloudkill, Ice Storm, Fireball, Flame Strike, etc. The ones that do physical damage.
I'll probably catch a rash of grief for suggesting this, but oh well, I'm tired of the "stealth nerfs" to stop exploiting too.
