A couple of questions about the offering, for when it comes back. Does every character on the account get the hireling? Is the hireling a gold seal one (like the panther) so that it can be summoned anywhere and has a min level 1?

Every character can get it, Min level to use is 1, summon anywhere as per a gold seal, and permanent like the panther.

First, I think this is a very nice starter pack. a perma hireling that can be used between level 1 and 5 without issue and hopefully supplemented with another hireling (if it's considered gold like the panther). While the pack is crud (can't stand beating skellies and such for a long quest chain) it is logical considering the starter level range.

This is a really good idea.

But to expand - consider investing in something like a perma hireling that level with you like Druid and Arti pets. Something you can define. It's won't change people soloing since I would solo anyways with the rent a hireling and I will group whenever possible. Plus it would add the flexibility of 'molding' the hireling to work with your specs. Then add some form of plat sink into it - like 'renting' gear options or buying aguments using gold. It could be like adding more SP, HP etc or maybe adding a slight boost to the party like +1/+2 XP. Nothing gamebreaking but something that both provide revenue to Turbine and a platsink in game.

And if possible expand it into say 3 perma hirelings max where adding more slots cost money. Like 500 for the second and 1000 for the third and each hireling costing 1500 or gold.

This is a boon. Everytime you TR you'd start from scratch with these hirelings and level them like you do Arti and Druid pets. And from the getgo you decide what class. (say rogue, fighter etc like we can choose from now). And each choice have it's on 'tree' of advances).

Purely put - this is a good starter pack but I think a perma hireling - if just only one was allowed would be a great way of adding flexibility. And naturally - add companions to all classes. That's a given.

Min level to use is 1
I can't use the flask at the character creation screen!? /ragequit.

On another note, a truly new player might whip out this hirelings during the starter quest with Jeets, Talbrun, and Celimas...and as the hireling is level 3, he'd take an XP hit doing it.

Probably too late, but how feasible is it to have the system mail the hireling contract instead of it magically appearing in your inventory? It's a little thing, but would be nice.

At level, catacombs is decent for xp and favor, similar to water works. But just like water works the rewards are mostly meh.

This was a perfect opportunity to introduce another non-player race hireling.

YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE THIS A KOBOLD SHAMAN HIRELING. And given it some Kobold lines. It would have sold like hotcakes. But you didn't, and now you've lost billions of dollar's worth of Kobold Kredits.

The hireling will only give an XP penalty to lvl1 quests, and the XP that would be lost would be on the order of a few dozen points of XP.

If you made the kobold shaman level 16, this would be another "take my money!" moment similar to the tomes of exp!

Any chance the starter pack (or even just the hireline!) will be available in the DDO Store for Turbine Points?

the suggestion for the kobold shaman hireling is brilliant, I love that idea. it would be nice if he made snarky audio comments complaining about having to heal you, and never forgetting waterworks.

I wanted to confirm that if we apply the starter pack to existing accounts, existing characters would have access to the gold hireling? for some reason, I thought I read that it was only available for new starting characters.

which hireling does this summon? if it is elieri with divine vitality, it would be like having an eternal flask of dv. are you able to dismiss the gold hireling and summon back again later in the same quest?

Yes, gold seals can be dismissed and resummoned after the waiting period. If this hireling has DV, technically it is infinite SP, but the time interval required would make this impractical. At level 3 he's only using DV 1, and will have what, 5-6 uses tops? That's 100 SP every 5 minutes. I'd rather chug a mnemonic and use the 15-20 minutes I just saved to run another quest for the money to buy a replacement mnemonic.

Using TP (that's turbine points not toilet paper) to get a perm hireling, I say the same. This would without a doubt be a money maker.

A Hireling that leveled with you.
I'd spend some bucks on that.
Lets see @ X$ per toon with x number of tunes = $$$$ for turbine.

I spend TOO much on this game, but it does keep me home and out of the bars LOL

Hummm seems my budget has changed to include more coffee and munchies...
