Default Akami Error [Unable to download game]

    Heyo!

If this isn't exactly in the right place move-me. I can't download the game in one go because of where I live and Akami is acting funny. It restarts the download each time. Can't play. Any help would be great!

Without new players DDO will go the way of the dodo.

If you have Steam, just download through that. Tends to be slightly quicker as well

I recommend downloading the game from the following forum thread:

    DDO Wrapper (custom installer)

DDO itself doesn't really hook into your system. It does require .NET framework and directx, but the game itself is essentially just a bunch of files in a folder and nothing else of consequence. You can freely rename or move the installation folder and the game still runs perfectly fine. (After redirecting shortcuts, obviously.) For example, when I consolidated all my games to C:\Games, I literally just dragged the Dungeons and Dragons Online folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine to C:\Games via windows explorer, redirected the shortcuts and I was done.

That's a longwinded way of saying that all you need are the files from the game directory and you're good to go. The above link is from a forum poster who bundles the files from his game directory for easy download if you don't want to use akami or steam.

The advantage to the linked download is he typically updates the download after every game update, so after you download and "install" from there you're ready to start playing. By contrast, if you download the official game installation (or steam, I assume), you're downloading a snapshot of the game files from long ago, possibly years. Meaning the first time you run the game you have to sit through an endless amount of game patches before you can run the game.

Having a fully updated game download you can play immediately is the whole point of his custom installer wrapper.

EDIT: Looks like he last updated it Christmas, so you'll still have a couple updates to slog through. Almost certainly far less than if you got the official download, though they might have updated them for Ravenloft.

    Thanks for the recommendation m8

If I recall correctly the official game installers have not been updated since Shadowfell was released so yeah quite some time ago. I have just made a new version of it to for U40.
