    Default Soul Gem Farmer?

I'm working on melee'ish builds on my main, and have little experience with casters. But for crafting weapons, I need appropriate soul gems to apply bane effects.

I want to LTR an old level 20 human toon into a soul gem farmer. When I need a soul gem, I'll log that toon on, go farm the gems I need, and then log off and return the toon to the closet.

    Requirements:
    1) Human. My old toon is human.
    2) No named gear. I'm happy to Cannith Craft any gear, but I don't want to farm any named gear. It's just beyond what I want to deal with.
    3) At level 20, able to easily survive any of the locations where I need to go in order to farm soul gems for crafting bane shards.
    4) Preferably low reliance on consumables as well. Yes, I'm lazy, I don't want to always be shopping.

Alternatively, I have access to Iconics, so if there is an Iconic build that meats the above requirements, that'd be great too.

Any character that can cast Trap the Soul is sufficient.
You can collect soul gems on Normal or in wilderness areas, so a super build is unnecessary.

    So Wizard, Sorceror or Warlock.
Max out Int or Cha for spell DC, some spell pen feats, that's pretty much it.

I'd recommend as Wizard or Sorcerer, and use of the Heighten Feat. That way you can cast it as a level 9 spell, verse only being able to get it to a level 6 spell with a Warlock (Heighten would do nothing for a Warlock since it's a level 6 spell for them already.) Sorcerers have a faster cool down, if that matters to you.

Trap the Soul is a Conjuration spell, so Spell Focus/Greater Spell Focus: Conjuration would be a good idea. Conjuration boosting items are pretty plentiful with the new random gen loot now.

I would recommend warlock. Warlocks do not need khyber drahonshards as a material component. Wizards and sorcs do.

If you have access to the deep gnome iconic race, they start as a wizard and at level 15 gain access to the Trap the Soul spell. So you could make one and be casting the spell 5 minutes later if you wanted to go this route.

As an alternative, to stay with the melee you are more comfortable with, the epic Soultaker staff has a weapon proc for trap the soul. It is a quarter staff.
A green steel weapons or items, the Vacuum 2 ability can do Trap the Soul, as well as an item with Trap the Soul guard on it.

It does not matter who the strongest fighter is... just the last one standing in the end.

I use my epic challenge farmer as my soul gem farmer. He's positively drowning in named gear, but it's all the super easy to acquire stuff: War Wizard's set, staff of the necromancer, etc...

anyone have luck with the level 21 hireling Grobbin Halfhitch? I remember a long time ago trying him.

edit: I used him to try to get strong soul gems but I believe those are no longer needed in crafting. He was getting the medium ones fine.

Strong gems are used for unbound crafting.

I decided to go with a Deep Gnome Iconic pure Wizard, since it was free to me: LTR'ing my existing lvl 20 toon would use a heart.

I found my new Deep Gnome to be extremely squishy, with multiple deaths wracked up. But I was able to muddle thru and get the couple of soul gems I was looking for right now (undead and construct). And my squishiness was almost certainly caused by a problem between keyboard and chair, since I simply am not practiced at playing casters.

So my only real "cost" was Khyber dragonshard fragments which had been piling up in my bank.

I want to think everyone for their contributions. The discussion helped focus how I leveled the new toon to get what I was after.
