Default What Should be added to the level 30 version of Cloak Of Night?

During a video that the DDO youtube channel recently published, they were talking about considering making higher level gear for the Night Revels event so I am wanting to share my opinions and to get to hear your's on the matter!

    Healers Bounty?

A vampirism melee imbue effect where every hit restores about 2 D2 hitpoints?

    Blue Augment Slot?

    Green Augment slot?

    Ghostbane Plus Blurry?

    Higher dodge bonus?

    Better good DR bonus?

More effective version of Nightmare guard?

Which of these suggestions would make the cloak endgame appropriate?

Based on what happened to Cannith Challenge equipment I expect non-scaling properties to remain unchanged, unusual properties to remain unchanged, common scaling properties to receive a significant boost, and the addition of Augment slots.

So, for the ML20 Cloak of Night, the current version...

Invisibility Guard, Ghostly, Deathblock, Nightmare Guard, Dodge 4%, DR 5/Good

    Would become something like...

Invisibility Guard, Ghostly, Deathblock, Nightmare Guard, Dodge 11%, DR 5/Good, Green Augment Slot

I doubt the damage reduction numbers will increase. Things like Nightmare Guard remained completely unchanged on the upgraded Cannith Challenge equipment. Deathblock may become Deathblock # to build in some Negative Resistance. I also doubt weapon properties like Ghostbane or Vampirism will make it onto a Cloak but who knows?

A Death Ward clickable skill would make an interesting addition though somewhat redundant given the other options out there. Blurry or Lesser Displacement would make the Cloak of Night much more attractive. Hide 20 and Move Silently 20 would make it far superior to the Drow Piwafwi. Shadow Phase a la Thunderforge Armour would offer a ton of utility for normal questing.

I hope they surprise us with something really nice and completely unique--a property found on no other piece of equipment. Rebuilding all my L20 T3 Cannith Challenge stuff from scratch was a huge effort but resulted in a significant upgrade for Epic questing. If I must play Night Revels quests for 20 hours to make one piece of equipment it needs to offer similarly significant worth to my ladies. It was sooooo much easier to make a Cloak of Night under the old system.

Edit: I doubt we will see an 'End Game' version of the Cloak of Night. It seems like Challenge/Festival equipment is tailored for players working through Past Lives. Even though building a Challenge/Festival item often requires significant effort, it is not really the same as End Game/Raid effort. *shrugs* I am often wrong about such things.

    Default and lastly

I want the Great Pumpkin (or whomever) to cast a dispel magic on the horrid wilting perpetrated by whichever dastardly dev that ruined all of my old Mabar mats.

    I want Spectral Dragon Armor.

You know what would be cool? A Ruby of Eternal Nightmares that adds the PK effect of Terror to your weapon. Have it scale like the one that neg-levels.

Yes. I was writing about the ML20 version, as I noted. I would lump damage reduction in the category of 'unusual properties'. It technically scales but the developers do not use it the same way as other scaling properties. On an ML28 version of the Cloak of Night I would not necessarily expect DR10/Good to become DR15/Good. It would be nice, though.

Sorry, I thought you were responding to the OP's topic of what should the ML30 version look like.

I see now you were talking about how the already-existing lower ML versions would be updated, which is something different altogether. My mistake.

I was drawing a comparison between the ML20 Cloak of Night and the ML20 Tier 3 Cannith Challenge equipment to try and see how the developers may alter what exists. Then I commented on additional properties for a higher level version. My apologies if I was unclear.

The new ML20 Tier 3 Bracers of Wind have the following properties:

Magnetism +122; Lightning Lore +18; Blurry; Dodge +11%; Air Guard; Colorless Augment; Green Augment

The ML20 Cloak of Night currently has the following properties:

Invisibility Guard; Ghostly; Deathblock; Nightmare Guard; Dodge +6%; DR 5/Good

Pairing the abilities against each other yields something like:

    Magnetism +122 <vs> DR 5/Good
    Lightning Lore +18 <vs> Deathblock
    Blurry <vs> Ghostly
    Dodge +11% <vs> Dodge +6%
    Air Guard <vs> Nightmare Guard
    Colorless Augment <vs> Deathblock
    Green Augment <vs> nil

By bumping up Dodge to 11% and adding a Green Augment the ML 20 Cloak of Night looks a lot more like the ML 20 Tier 3 Bracers of Wind. This was how I came to my prediction about how existing cloaks may change. For example:

ML20 Cloak of Night: Invisibility Guard; Ghostly; Deathblock; Nightmare Guard; Dodge +11%; DR 5/Good; Green Augment

ML24 Cloak of Night: Invisibility Guard; Ghostly; Deathblock; Nightmare Guard; Dodge +13%; DR 10/Good; Green Augment

Continuing on to a ML28 version yields something like:

ML28 Cloak of Night: Invisibility Guard; Ghostly; Deathblock; Nightmare Guard; Dodge +15%; DR 15/Good (maybe); Green Augment; Something New?

Dodge bonus is always two better than the Cannith Crafted equivalent in the progression above. Seven properties is not out of line for Tier 3 Challenge and Festival equipment. At ML28 I would expect one new property but, if they add the Augment slot, that could raise the number of properties to 8. I suggested Death Ward, Blurry, Lesser Displacement, Shadow Phase, Hide +20, and Move Silently +20 as possibilities but hope for something more unique and interesting.

That said, I am not expecting an ML28 (or ML30) version. However, if it appears, that brings great hope for not only this festival but also Crystal Cove!

Oh! A 5% Experience bonus on the Cloak of Night would also make it very useful for solo players like myself. It has no reason to be there but it would sure be a huge help.

    Default a few observations

Thematically, the Mabar gear always had set properties instead of slots, so I was hesitant to suggest slots from that standpoint. The gear would have a longer lifespan with augment slots, so that may be a negative from a dev perspective.

It doesn't appear to me that the devs want to spend any more time on this 'old' gear. The last event regarding said gear seemed like a slapdash attempt to offer players a one-last-opportunity to get what we wanted before the lights were turned off, after the preceding event left people hanging with incomplete gear.

If the gear is going to be updated with regard to current power creep standards, then Slave Lords is the current standard to be met or bested. However, the devs appear to be more interested in temporary consumable and short lifespan items. I would be surprised to see any effort to update the old Mabar gear.

If the gear is going to be revisited, it would be nice to have the opportunity to upgrade old gear to the new, either through stone of change or a festival trader.

Well you see there seem to be two types of Ethereal dragons in DDO, the illusionary-like reddish-pink variety seen in Mabar and the whitish more ghostly variety seen in the Cannith Challenges. I tried making a whitish, ghostly variety of dragon scale with the white dragon armor and it ended up looking washed out and difficult to understand visually as many layers of transparent ghostly "armor". So then I tried the reddish-pink variety and that seemed to work better not only to distinguish itself from regular dragon scale but also to give the visual cues of transparency.

I only tried it with the one armor item I had of white dragon scale. I can use wiki images but the dpi of the images renders lower quality work, which is too bad because all my alts are female and I think I would be getting a better response on the forums if the guys could see what these items might look like on their characters. On the other hand, many of my cosmetics have been caster robes and they might be too girly for guys no matter what. *shrugs*
