Default Effect of new mastery feats

    Hey

Do I need Highten to benefit from the new mastery feats or are the +10 caster levels automatically added to the spell?

    Thanks

    Wal

You do not need Heighten spell. The 10 caster levels are added directly to the effect/damage of the spell.

To clarify, the new feats don't add any caster levels. They raise the cap on certain spells by +10.

If you have fewer caster levels than a spell's cap, that part of the feat does nothing.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

I can see that it affects my spells though:

And: "Heighten Spell has no effect on spells without
a Saving Throw and does not affect Spell Penetration
    calculations."

This is what Lammania looked like. The live versions just say "increases the spell level by 10".

So they raise both the MCL and the CL for the specified spells by +10?

If you cast a spell that is affected by the mastery feat that spell is granted +10 caster levels if you are high enough level to get that benefit.

As far as I have understood, this is how it goes:

Spell X deals 1d4 damage per 2 caster levels to a maximum of 5-20 damage at caster level 10 (i.e. the cap of the caster level is 10).
With mastery level you can level that spell to 20 and it automatically does so when you are level 20.
So, if you're level 14, the spell is level 14 too because you have to be the minimum level of 20 to get the full bonus effect.
With the mastery feat the damage of the above spell is doubled when you hit 20.

In short, the answer to your question is yes.
