    Default Cannith Crafting: the terrible NON-FEATURES

    This weekend I took advantage of leveling up on the server of Sarlona for the 30% bonus.

    When the AMOUNT window was added is when the interface went wrong.

    A list of the things that went wrong for me

    1. INTERFACE IS WONKY

    The interface just locks up, has to be closed and re-opened. A lot.

    This might be machine OS dependent. The VISTA machine is just bad, but the windows 7 and windows 8 also just stop working a random times.

    I have theories on how to mitigate, but it is not consistent.
    a) if you can select both a green or a yellow always take the vertical selection bar to the BOTTOM of the window
    b) put a number in the amount window

    Causes
    a) When changing pages of inventory, almost 100% quits working
    b) when changing from (jewelry, clothing, armor, weapon) to (select one that is not the same (jewelry, clothing, armor, weapon)) it locks up
    c) changing to deconstruct a weapon is really bad at locking up

    DECONSTRUCTING SHARDS

    When I deconstructed shards so I could get back some of my essences, I could only deconstruct one type of shard and I had to restart the window each and every time. sure I could deconstruct 11 of the same shard, but I still had to close the window and restart the window

    POOR DATABASE VIEW?

    Why oh why oh why are there multiple of the exact same shard at the exact same level with the exact same ingredients?

    Spell Penetration I for example

    XP and PROFICIENCY DO NOT CHANGE

    I used to be able to determine the best and most efficient XP to level up. Now, when I construct a shard the XP and Proficiency do not change until I level up in one of the schools of crafting, does not matter which one.

    I can forever see

    MENDING Level 71, XP 109, proficiency 85%

    it will never change until I level up

    CREATING TWO OF THE SAME SHARD

    When you create a shard it stays on that shard so you can create it again. Of course the XP and proficiency don't change, BUT

    when you create the SECOND SAME SHARD, it clears out and goes back to page 1, item 1, even though I was on page 3 item 6. Very annoying

    ANIMATION LAG

    It is just terrible. This could go back to being a poor database view that creates multiple sequential tables in it.

    I'll be surprised if they ever fix (let alone upgrade) Cannith crafting. They seem to like creating more and more different crafting systems instead.

    All the issues you list are legitimate problems that need addressing.

    A little background on this: Cannith crafting was implemented back when "spell power" and spell penetration was leveled. As in, spell penetration III gave +2 spell pen for spell levels 1, 2 and 3. And something like greater devotion IV gave 30% (or whatever) extra damage to positive energy spells for spell levels 1, 2, 3 and 4.

    This changed when spell power was changed over to the current system, and then again when spell penetration was similarly changed. During the changeovers, it was decided to not remove the now duplicate shards because they can (and often should) be used for leveling. As an example, the spell power clickie shards are typically good xp shards for leveling, like ardor.

    Since the original cannith crafting was balanced around having all these many leveling shards in place, removing them was considered the worse of the two options. Even when two different shards have the same effect, level and cost, that's still more xp to had before the repetition penalties get you.

    Still on the to-do list for '15... it would be the last thing done (providing there is time) and the first thing bumped to '16 (providing there isn't enough time).

    Was mentioned by Cordovan (IIRC) last week during one of his livestreams.

    After everything that is already planned for this year, Cannith Crafting/Random Loot pass needs to happen, and then the Guild Management System pass needs to happen right after (just before the 10th anniversary/birthday).

    What is the Guild Management System pass? check sig.

    HOW TO KNOW IT WILL NO LONGER WORK?

    If the red/orange/yellow question mark no longer appears in the cruncher window. If you are like me, 90% of the time I turn my head and look at something else while I wait for the cruncher to do whatever it is going to do and I miss the question mark.

    Some shards you can pick which school you want the XP to go into.

    The only way i've found to fix this is to turn off auto-gather on everything. all bags, all quivers.

    Default Problems with Crafting Storage

    All accounts have crafting storage. Which is sort of useful.

    As long as you don't mind it not working properly.

    Normally, if you keep everything in your inventory, you will get platinum when you deconstruct an item. If you keep ingredients in crafting storage, you get zero platinum

    Also, you can have a myriad of other undocumented problems.

    My advice, just keep a green bag in your bank filled with stuff. Visit your bank, remove bag, before you deconstruct. Reduces many headaches.

    This is because they used to have more specialized shards that did more specific things (mostly the old pre-spellpower shards that boosted spells of particular levels) and when they introduced changes they only half-@ss fixed them by changing the effects but not the cost.

    I have no idea if this was a rhetorical question and you already knew the answer, but this used to bug me until I asked.

    Default New "feature"

    Sometimes, when you drag an item to the "Your Ingredients" window and you then select a deconstruction option of with Lorinda's Ultimate Remover(green one) or Parfett's Leading Dissolver(yellow one) the "Your Ingredients" will clear out the item you put in there, but leave the deconstruction object in there.

    This has happened to me multiple times and has even happened on the first item I deconstructed.

    I have not been able to isolate the cause of this.

    Now, I try to deconstruct items by the choice either using ONLY Lorinda's or using ONLY Parfett's.

    Everything else that I have listed in this thread, none of it has been fixed.

    Default Deconstructing does not always give platinum

    About the New Loot

    Weapons and Armor, all of them give Platinum, XP, and Essences. This is as designed.

    Clothing does not give Platinum. See exceptions.
    Jewelry does not give Platinum. See exceptions.

    There are exceptions to the rule though. I have four jewelry and clothing items that gave platinum.

    Most jewelry and clothing do not give platinum when deconstructing, but some do. This cannot be WAI(working as Intended) since some work but most don't.

    Right now, it looks like deathblock items and mastercraft items will give platinum, all other jewelry and clothing will not give platinum. You still get XP and essences, just not platinum.
