    Default Rename Spell Components

    It can be a minor annoyance to try and track down the correct spell component for the correct class and level of spell, so my proposal is this:

    Rename all spell components so they are called "Wizard level 1 spell component: {name}". That way they will auto-sort by class in the vendor lists. Very minor change, makes everyone's life just a tiny bit better.

    So what of "Sorcerer level 1 spell component: {name}"?

    Double listing of components is not a solution. More distinct icons would probably help, however.

    What about just REMOVE COMPLETLELY spell components wthout relevant gp cost? They're just annoying and does not improve game experience

    Arcane Level 1 spell component: {name}
    Divine Level 1 spell component: {name}
    Artificer Level 1 spell component: {name}
    Druid Level 1 spell component: {name}
    Paladin Level 1 spell component: {name}
    Ranger Level 1 spell component: {name}

    I went to verify on wiki, and it appears that there's no overlap even when the above groups share the same spell. For example:

    Freedom of Movement
    Divine component: Diamond Dust
    Bard component: Small Hard Rod
    Ranger component: Nymph Tear

    Agree.

    Simple solution - (well for ~95.5% of players) - color code spell mats. Pink for Bard, Blue for Divine, Green for Nature, Ivory for Paladin, Yellow for Arcane, etc etc.

    Couple minutes in Photoshop or Paint with the bucket tool - and viola! :P

    That's nice. Doesn't have much to do with this game though. Especially since the mothergame, while including them in the rules, dramatically simplified them (they were kept only as a sacred cow):

    Spell Component Pouch
    A spellcaster with a spell component pouch is assumed to have all the material components and focuses needed for spellcasting, except for those components that have a specific cost, divine focuses, and focuses that wouldn’t fit in a pouch.
    Which means we're not supposed to have to track them like we do, especially in a nonsensical each one takes up one inventory slot manner. Crazy that I want to follow the mothergame, but that's just how I roll.

    You left out bard. However, any player familiar with PnP would assume arcane should work for bard and artificer, let alone divine would work for ranger and paladin.

    So schematics really do matter in this case still.

    The more intensive manner could also be to remove the "single seller" and make sellers that sells only their stuff. But if you aren't of their 'class' you get a warning before you buy. (note I never see them doing this.)

    One thing that might possibly be more interesting would be to change spell components to instead of being consumables, to be an item ("spell component pouch") that sits in a special inventory slot. It wouldn't be an ACTUAL bag that holds stuff, so there wouldn't be that problem with not being able to use items directly out of bags. They could then have various different pouches that you could find in loot that grant different casting-related benefits. Something like that would make the whole system more interesting and valuable.

    If you wanted to get REALLY interesting, make it so the benefits of the pouch only apply to spells that use components. Possibly make the unique pouches a "charged" item that gradually wears out as uses are depleted. Could add more interest to caster-type characters and keep the flavor while eliminating the annoying aspects.

    I do kind of miss the flavor of the wizard "spellbook" from pnp. Spell inscription materials are dorky, but the actual book has always been a big thing. And what about holy symbols for paladins, favored souls, and clerics? Yeah, we have orbs, but those aren't quite the same thing.

    Now this sounds good and possibly quite tasty.
