Default Best unbound items for a noob friend?

Hi folks, I was thinking about this the other day. What would be your top list of items unbound for a completly F2P player, warrior or mage or whatever? I'm talking about level 5-15 range or so.

    Random loot probably.

It's hard to say when you leave the level and class so open.

For total F2P there is maybe something in WW, maybe a planar gird, Tempest spine gear, Lords of Dist gear,

But is any of that better than a good Thurm staff for a wizard? I doubt it.

So i'd just look for basic random gear on AH.

Or find someone who can craft for you.

Are you still on Orien? I seem to recall you saying you were going to move.

If you have moved to G-land I'd be happy to craft some basic unbound +4, +6 stat shards and maybe a few unbound weapon/armor shards, or whatever you needed, so you and your buddy could craft gear as you level up (as long as I have enough materials).
BONGO FURY - Ghallanda - Thingfish - Wizard, Diuni - Ninja, Gheale - Angel, Dullknife - Tank, Noodlefish - Gimp, Jaquaby - Treacherous and other gimps.

I know about random lootgen but I was looking for specifics. And yes the class he has yet to decide. I've gathered a few goods, planar gird is one of those. Along with the Shining Devastation greatclub, ring of the ancestor, mask of teleportation. I reckon Threnal has some good unbound weapons, maybe the adamantine loot from Relic quest. Any other ideas, named stuff unbound or really easy to get for a 100% F2P player?

Heavy fort item - either a blue slotted lvl 8 item or lv 9 Nightforge Gorget from relic for 10 adamantine ore
Some sort of blur - Duskheart is a nice starter item with 10% blur, improved false life and a colorless slot, from sands or AH
leftover tomes or cheap ones from auction house.

depending on his class. for level 8-10 you can get him Silver longbow - Maelstrom (greataxe)- Flint (dagger) or bejeweled letter opener if he doesn't have improved crit.
Alternative for better survivability on a first life is a vampiric weapon from assault on summerfield chain, when you turn an item into vampiric with the shadow staff and purple crest, the result turns into bound on equip, lvl 12 weapon.

Collapsed portable hole for the extra inventory page.
Basics but important stuff like feather falling item, scrolls or clickies with protect against evil (immune to most forms of hold) and nightshield (immune to magic missile)

not sure how much you planned out already, you mentioned some of the best unbound items to get someone already, royal guard mask isnt easy to get.

For casters threnal war blade (+15 implement, 2 slots for spellpower) lasts really long.

And even other than casters, it's a very good longsword for its level. Nice base damage and all.

For a still-undecided class - plenty of adamantine ore, the Nightforge stuff is bind-on-acquire and armor and weapon choices &c depend on build, but a lot of it is good for exactly this kind of thing.

PRR, heavy fort, feather fall, blindness immunity augments; resistance items or augments, deadly and speed items. Feather falling items are common nowadays anyway.

    Underwater action item.

Everbright bludgeon, type would depend on build but quarterstaves are at least usable by everyone even if not optimal, right?

For longbow users the Silver Longbow is a very good one, already mentioned.

    A returning thrower anyway maybe?

... starter stacks of consumables. Cure potions; remove curse, disease, poison; (lesser) restoration; haste, heroism, rage, jump, ... mnemonic for casters... and what did I forget again?

The best F2P gear is probably:

    - Nightforge gear
    - Challenge gear (collect your daily tokens!)

    Both are bound, though.

Adamantine ore being unbound makes the Nightforge gear much easier in this case, heh. Collect lots of that and then help your friend survive to the forge on casual...

I seem to recall seeing the challenge tokens come in at least two different bind statuses though...? (Not that that still helps any if they were BtC and BtA.)

Then there's the Tempest's Spine raid loot, some of that is very good in slot, but fully bound so no help here.

It really depends if the items are farmed on the f2p account or the premium, also generalist gear is mostly +stat items, +6stat +augment slot, +30False life, Heavy fort, etc...

There is a lot of BtcoE gear, which is technically unbound until your friend equips them, so they are easy to pass down to a friend.

You can also buy a pass to Gianthold and the Orchard and give 20 scale, tapestries, tome of legend and shield fragments for turnins. That slots helmet, shield, armor, weapon, that is good until epics.

    • Random Generated Gear
    • Elite GH gear
    • Threnal LS/dagger
    • Cannith crafting
    • Sands explorer rares (supposedly better drop rates)
    • Highroad/Druid/Wheelon loot for 15+

So far this is working very well for me.

If it were me, I would go over their gear with them to see what they are missing, and what they have potentially doubled up on, and craft the missing things into a convenient slot for them. There is no 'one list to rule them all', especially for widely differeng charas like casters and melee levels 5 to 15.

Blur good. Dusk Heart is **** though. Easier just to go bang out a level 3 Bracers of Wind in the Cannith Challenges. It's account bound, but 20% blur on the wrist slot. And as noted, it's ML 3, as opposed to the DH which is ML 9. Seriously, if you don't have a set, go grab a buddy, read the wiki, and bang out those mats real quick. All of your characters will be happy!

yes bracers of wind are much better, but the ingredients are bound so Duskheart is kinda of the best Cath could get his/her friend to start with.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Cannith crafting yet. So long as you or someone you know has adequate levels you can make unbound shards. Crafted gear is very powerful on a newb toon if for no other reason than you can fully customize what stats go in what slots, allowing you to fill in holes and always have top stats for your level (outside of rare named gear).

    http://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Binds_on_equip

that gear(which hasn't been updated in a looooong time btw), how to proceed?

check AH/grind it for that f2p player
    mail/trade it (for free lol)
    profit

yes, for me everything bind>>unbound stuff

of course, there're sometimes/lvls where you have empty slots and unbound/random stuff is what fits in hte leftovers

or you can have this slot empty and world won't end, unless you aren't using a for item, for example XD
psykopeta is finally baconpletionist because there isn't anything to delay it more - thelanis, where the gimps claim to be pros and noobs claim to be pros, no newbies allowed(unless they claim to be pros), we have enough drama w/o them. PS: I post only in the latest thread shown in main page, in the weird case u want something from me, feel free to send pm

First life or not I have a sort of "core" set to look for:
    • Feather Fall Item (could be swappable, but I prefer always-on)
    • An underwater action item (generally swapable)
    • A deathblock item (I personally prefer this on armor) is essential by mid levels once the casters have insta-death casting abilities or you meet your first beholder
    • Speed item (or you just can't keep up with the vets in a group)
    • For a rogue (or artificer) Spot, Search, and Disable Device boosting items

Everything else is, for a decent build, somewhat subjective but in general I also hunt for and keep:
    • STAT item for my primary stat(s)
    • CON item(s) and/or false life items because you can never have too many hit points
    • Assorted situational weapons (assorted metals for those pesky constructs and the odd vampire; two or three elemental options)
Zyinniah Hazelnut and Curissa Hazelnut on most servers.

the first chain is f2p, the sora katra set drops often, as do the weapons, however upgrading them requires a secondairy weapon and marks, witch drop in the p2p second chain, the weapons, though rare can somethimes be bought, the marks bind to account on aquire. so thats a no go.

A Challenge token can be picked up for free once per day, the gear is easy to get, all it requires is patience, the elemental weapons and caster gear are decent.
not sure if you can enter the area but tapestries are tradeble and can net you nice helmets, minos legends comes to mind

let groups know you're f2p, some may throw you a guest pass, i still do if they act competent, listen in party voice chat(trap!!!) and seem nice people. (assuming i have points left XD)

uhm no.. the marks are bound and the item you need to improve it is bound, but the resulting weapon is bound on equip, not on account/character, so you can give it just fine to someone else.

Give them the shards and a blank for a ML3 Screaming [weapon of choice] of Bleeding, and other relevant shards so they can upgrade the enhancement bonus as they level (should be able to hit +3 before you need a shard of potential, as I recall).
get them a [weapon of choice] ghostbane
Get them an appropriate lootgen deathblock item of the lowest ML possible, whether it be on armour or shield or something else.
Get them a selection of resistance items of varying MLs
Get them a selection of deadly items of varying MLs
Get them a selection of speed items of varying MLs

Light blue touch paper, retreat 12 paces.
