i need one of these felows-The owl bear is my spirit monster.
Please clarify.
When I click on the link on the facebook page, I get a popup from Offerpop saying it wants:
My Public Profile
Friend List
Email Address
Birthday
Current City
Likes
I click on Cancel.
The website now says it wants only my Public Name from my profile
If all it wants is my name, that's Fine. If I am giving all that other info, NO WAY.
Please clarify what I am actually sending to offerpop.
Thanks!
Offerpop is the software solution that manages our promotions on social media. It uses a standard boilerplate bit of legalese to manage the campaigns, primarily to make sure that it's one code per Facebook or Twitter account, in accordance with these social networks' privacy and disclosure policies. We are not utilizing any of the features like collecting email addresses, auto-posting on your behalf, etc., and Offerpop is not utilizing this information other than to manage the campaign and provide reports to us on how many codes have been used, followers we've gained, etc. If you have a concern with this, remember that this is an optional campaign, and not something you are required to participate in.

Then
- why can you not manage the distribution of codes via your own web interface, or
- why can you not simply give it to everyone rather than allow this data mining (please don't tell us it's not), or
- what good is an Owlbear code to my facebook or twitter account anyway? (hey, you said it).
I'm aware it's optional, but I have to miss out because I refuse to let my standards be compromised for this obvious data matching exercise so that facebook knows I'm a gamer and can shape their advertising to that. Isn't the $400+/year I give turbine (or whoever runs this ship now) enough for something special in return? Naaaaah ..
Please note, [and I'm under the assumption that this hasn't changed since I worked with Facebook App Development, considering every App still asks me for it], this is a default message that all Facebook Apps ask for.
This is on Facebook's end, and it's a simple on/off switch. Facebook doesn't have an option to add an app to your account without allowing it access to the entirety what Facebook deems 'basic information'. There's not, for example, a way for Facebook to add it to your account, giving it the account permissions that entails, but denying it access to X and Y of your 'basic information' block.
Think of it like giving someone the key to your house, but then having another locked door leading to any room outside of the first one. Facebook gives them the key to that entry room, and doesn't say "Oh, but you can't touch THAT", pointing out the sofa and china cabinet. At the same time, you're not giving them a key to anything further in.. which, unfortunately, seems to just contain 'permissions to post on your wall'.
This setup is one of the things that gets Facebook all that privacy backlash that it's gotten over the years.
Do note, many of us- though I stopped caring, personally- do have secondary Facebook accounts specifically for special offer use. Facebook never verifies any sort of personal information for its apps, so you can make a completely BS account and use it solely for Apps. This should help alleviate any privacy concerns you may have.
Looking forward to this when I log onto DDO tonight, always wanted an owlbear pet.
Thanks devs, I appreciate the christmas gift.

I just did the whole process in Chrome (Version 39.0.2171.95 m) and it worked just fine. The Twitter link was a series of numbers and when I pasted it into the redeem code at it placed in the hyphens for me without a problem. Then as soon as I logged in on a toon I got this message, "(Loot): The following is now in your inventory: Snowy Owlbear Certificate." Which I found interesting, as I do not recall the loot prefix before.
i don't like how they seem to think the Facebook and Twitter community is more important then us. at least they didn't ask us all to shop at a Sony store.
