Default Challenging things for a duo to do at cap?

Hey guys. So I play with my brother pretty much exclusively. We're approaching level 28 now and I'm a little worried we won't be challenged for too much longer(which kinda defeats the whole character development and TR thing for us, we like having something to work towards). I was just wondering if anyone in a similar situation found some tough things to do at level 28. Is EE What Goes Up really the toughest quest out there? We're doing the Storm Horns quests now at 26 on EE without much issue. Are shortmanning raids fun? We've never really done that.

Any experiences anyone has is appreciated.

There isn't much to do at cap sadly. Yet, since you said duo! One of the better things to do is soloing raids! Just keep increase the difficulty on which you duo the raids. Such as duo FoT on EH first then once you get the hang of it try it on Elite. You could also move up to more difficult raids like FotP and MoD. While it's not much! It can help you stay interested a bit longer. Gear farming is always an option as well: Tier3 TF and Necro gear are some examples. Hopefully this helps a little bit!

Well, I'll start by assuming all y'all aren't thwarting your pursuit of challenge by using Naturally Single/Two Weapon Fighting Drunken Wolfs, or spamming "limitless" Flesh to Stone & Tornado pots, and are practicing smart mana management vs chugging endless mana pots.

Based on those assumptions, if duoing standard (though scaled down) Elite quests isn't providing the difficulty you're looking to overcome then tackling the raids should keep you busy (at least for a while) between content releases. Even some of the older ones like Reaver's Fate and Shroud can be tricky to duo due to the mechanics involved.
I would still like to see... Something that tests character versatility and player adaptability rather than character focus strength and quest knowledge.
I play the quests for the content of the quests not just as an XP/min merry-go-round.
Actual play experience is worth infinitely more than theorycrafting...

    Yep.

The epic raids I can think of offhand that are duo-friendly and fun you might consider are:

    Chronoscope
    Lord of Blades
    Against the Demon Queen
    Fall of Truth

A couple of the heroic raids might be worth a shot on elite, just to see if they're challenging at all:

    Tower of Despair
    Reaver's Fate

Vault of Night is a nice epic raid but sadly isn't duo-friendly. (Unless you can both summon pets to pull levers, maybe?)
Hound of Xoriat is kind of weaksauce.
    Shroud isn't duo-friendly.
Tempest Spine is too low level to bother with.
Caught in the Web kind of sucks as a raid. The only raid in the game I consider legitimately unfun.

I haven't run (so can't comment on) the following raids:

Master Artificer (ran it only once, years ago, and don't remember the mechanics.)
    Ascension Chamber
    Mark of Death
    Fire on Thunder Peak
    Temple of the Deathwyrm

Endgame ee's don't offer that much of a challenge for some people. Only challenging things for you guys to do is probably 2 man ee raids.

    Shroud isn't duo-friendly.
I was soloing Reaver on casters since before Epic Destinies. Melees would be a different story due to the air elementals, though now with an "easy to farm" item that gives Whirlwind Ward, this might be different.

The VoN north interactables can be soloed one person per side. The progress bar doesn't have to be 100% done before you twitch and do the next interactable; I usually do the ranged last. So long as the person going left has lock skills, VoN 5 is at least duoable... not sure about 6 though.

I've been dualboxing Shroud on norm a lot lately to rack up completions for a regearing. There's not a lot duo-unfriendly about it so long as you have a ranged attack for the crystal in part 2 (you can collect the bosses and run away; their different run speeds will typically be enough to split them apart for them to die). Parts 4 and 5 are just a DPS check.

I would say Abbot (random puzzle order)/Mark (lots to do on the main platform)/Deathwyrm (levers) are duo-unfriendly.
I Cannith-craft (150 levels in all schools) for free on Thelanis if you provide all needed materials.

Definitely go for duoing the raids. Tons of fun and for me personally, it opened up the whole new world :P
From my experience very fun raids to duo were: Shroud, Firepeaks, Abbot, FoT, CitW, Chrono, MoD (Did this with the caster for cc. Not sure if it's possible without sorc/wizard) and VoN5 (we both had a pet, again not sure if doable without it). Start at lower difficulty and if it won't be challenging for you enough, try the higher one.

Haven't tried Deathwyrm yet but it should be doable as well.

    Shortmanning raids, definitely.
Questwise there is not much that is challenging with the power creep you have at lvl 28.

I also find it fun to do some overlevel stuff on a fresh ETR at lvl 20 (putting on my pre MotU gear and pretending it's 2012).

Depends on what you guys play, DDO has no balance whatsoever, with the current "revamp a single tree per update".

    EE LOB
    EE Master Arti
    MoD
    FoT
    Firedragons

Are fun, and duoable. Both can easily wipe even competent players unless you play xzy current broken build in sentinel destiny, with endless self healing.

    Edit:
I would throw in "Haunted Halls" on EE with optionals, and Study in Sable Manor with Optionals on EE.

Playing without metagaming really ups the challenge too, dont know how intensively you use ddo wiki and outside resources.

Like everyone else is saying: duo raids.

The problem is that there aren't that many you can duo without specific classes. And then again there aren't that many relevant raids.

What classes are you playing? That would help giving you tips on what to try.

you could also post "all welcome" lfms to scale up the dungeons.
or self-imposed challenges like "try to keep the pug rogue alive"

In the past we have mostly played melee (me ) and my bro has 3 or 4 Wizz past lives at the moment. Next life we were thinking barbarian and bard. Range my be a limiting factor, but my bro wants a bard past life anyways and cleaving is always fun for me.

Alright, then on a melee (also my favourite! ) I would recommend:

    - CITW: It is possible on a duo, it is painful though. I've done melee duo up to EH.

    - FOT: Possible duo for sure, EE was a wipe for us but EH is "simple".

    - TOD: I've seen melee solos do it, but on a barbarian that would be interesting!

    - Deathwyrm: not a fan of the raid, I suspect it would it will be very hard. But maybe someone can give you some tips on that.

    - MOD: you won't be able to do it on melee based classes. Perhaps if the bard was enchant specced...I don't know, ask the experts. Could be very interesting.

    - FoTP: I don't think it is possible in a duo of melees. You will get overwhelmed by trash + dragons.

    - LOB: I think you will be able to do it

= The Chronoscope: Sure, have fun.

    - VON5&5: No pets from the classes you said, hard for levers.

    - Master artificer: No clue, never played it.

I would think Fire on Thunder Peak would be possible to Duo...but really tough. As said before, trash mobs could overwhelm you. Might be a fun challenge.

Mechanics wise, though, there is nothing to stop you.

Master artificer is nearly impossible (or at least would take forever) without good burst range DPS - other than that - would be relatively easy to duo - even on EE.

    Deathwyrm cannot be duo'ed...

Fire peaks would be doable relatively easy on EN but tedious.

Shroud is extremely easy to duo - although p2 and p3 are tedious.

Chrono is soloable on EE so...

In Von5 one person can get both the strength lever and the ranged lever if doing it correctly.
