Surely Mac has some kind of "Virtual Windows" emulator for running Windows program, yes?

I've use this one before crossover

Has anyone used Crossover for Ron's Character Planner? I'm coming back to the game (I realize I say that about once a year) and I'd buy Crossover if I knew it was going to work...

Also, Ron, have you and your team thought about a kickstarter program? I'd kick in more than Doritos and Mt. Dew...

Long time. Ron got too busy and handed it off to responsible parties, who in turn left the game... so when Ron's got time or something like that.

That's more or less right. The 4.x series is done, any future effort will be put into the 5.x code.

That project right now is sitting at a standstill. I don't expect it to stay that way forever, but for now, there is nothing happening. We have a great base (data handling) set up and I'm pretty happy with it. Not to mention a fair number of other systems in place that makes our lives easier (data input, graphics handlers and so forth). But on top of that base we need a whole lot of UI and rules-set work. Some of it is done, some of it isn't.

I do plan to get back to it. It's just that now is a bad time, as I am tremendously busy, and what time I do have is being invested in my YouTube projects.

    Default Harper Tree

As Ver 5 it currently at a stand still a couple of us with a little programming knowledge have managed to bring ver 4 up to date. We have included Vanguard, the new Rogue update, Harper Agent and a few other updates. It can be found at http://www.rjcyberware.com/.

Edit. site currently does not have the new 4.24.01 up yet but it should be there in the next day or 2, I thought it had been posted to the download page already.

The new version is up, with Warlocks.

Thanks again to Jonesth and Shindoku, who put in the work to get Warlocks added to the character planner.

You can find the new version here:

Thanks for the shoutout Ron, and thank you to Jonesth. Seriously couldn't have added what we have without you.

Looks like there hasn't been any changes for about a month. I hope to start helping out with it, but I can say for certain most of it will be beyond my comprehension. I will have a lot of reading in the future...

Yeah, I really want to work on the V5 planner. We have this absolutely amazing database set up, which is a million times better than those nasty text files we had. They load faster, are easier to change, far less prone to mistakes (no more semi-colon errors, missing fields, and the data can be sanity checked as it is input). And a LOT of work has gone into populating them (both in terms of structure and content). So I don't want that to go to waste.

It's just a matter of finding the time. I will work on it when things calm down some. Right now is just busy busy busy for me, hehe.

    Hey,

Thanks a bunch Ron, Jonesth and Shindoku. Really appreciate you guys taking the time and putting in the effort to update 4 like this.

Between this and Ellis' planner, I am pretty happy. Course, I'm sure v.5 will really rock when you get a chance to finish it Ron.

just a suggestion - but could ElisDee37 use those database files for his Character Builder Lite? He is looking to add functionality and it only makes sense that both planners use the same database files? just a suggestion - and keep on ! love the planner!

He'd be welcome to them. However, I think he's using text files (like our old planner). It would be a major undertaking to retrofit use of a database, it's really the backbone of the program. If you aren't set up that way to begin with, it would almost be easier to start over than try to shoehorn it in, hehe.

But, it's up to him. If he wants to take a look, it's fine. We have a lot of stuff in there he doesn't need (icon names and descriptions and such), but he could ignore those tables.

or he could just convert those tables to xml - which should be easy enough and use them that way. (apologies, am used to finding solutions to weird situations that often require a kludge. I once upgraded a massive database for a government agency from Korean war era to modern, and it required so many kludges it wasn't funny! )

No, I'm all set, but appreciate the kind offer, Ron.

Uurlock, Using a database would require a dependency, which would involve an installation program and possible version issues. I'd also most likely lose my Wine user(s). I'm pretty firmly in the "no installation required" camp.

One thing I am somewhat interested in doing is setting up an easy way to share builds between the programs. But that's for down the road, when you get to the output code for version 5.

Cool. I was with you in the original version of the planner (v1 to 4), that's why I didn't use .NET and all that stuff. Those versions were completely stand-alone. I had to evolve on that position though when we went over to C# and especially when we decided on using a database.

Yeah, database does indeed require a separate installation for it. So yeah, if that's an issue, that's another reason for not using it. The dump to XML is an interesting idea though Though again, that would require a complete rewrite of your parser.

We can totally do something with import/export of each others save file. That sounds like an awesome idea. We are going to use another database for character saves, but we already have a "Export to text file" menu item set up (no code attached yet, heh), so that was already in the plan, adding an import should be no harder. We'll talk later on, when we get to a point where saving characters happens (or at least the export part anyway).
