Newish player (basically a new) needs some advice

Howdy Yall,

Okies..so I have a level 12 arti on Argonessan and lets just say that the activity level on that server is less than optimal(sigh). I keep hearing that I should switch to G-Land or thaliesomethingorother. I am actually considering it. So here's what i wanted to ask advice on.

I jumped into this game a month ago, went ahead and did VIP and preordered the expansion at that time.

So if I roll to a new server i am essentially starting from scratch. I will hate regearing, not having crafting of any kind and being money poor. So what would be the best ways to farm back up gear for toons. I obviously have access to Iconics for farming, but I don't know the game well enough to know how to farm effectivley and where to farm to gather gear for toons so i can restart on the new server.

I don't understand crafting, like at all, it seems very counterintuitive. So i can't just craft up things.

Hmm..that was all a little disjoineted. Okies from the top:

If you hada iconics which would you play to farm gear quickly?
Which iconic would be the better choice or to modify to do it with?
Where would you go to effectively farm gear?
Is it worth trying to learn crafting with the iconic and where is a good resource to do that(ddowiki isnt the easiest when it comes to crafting)
Should i go ahead and upgrade to veteran status and farm gear for those toons?

Thank you inadvance, I know i am asking for alot of things there. I truly enjoy this game and want to keep going at it, i just need to be on a server with more of a pressence so this is the right choice i believe.

I don't think there are any servers with significantly more activity than argo. They're all roughly the same, except for Wayfinder which is empty.

I keep reading that those two have the largest populations. I am just not seeing many groups at my level range and my guild only has 1-2 people on at any given time

Ghallanda's Population Counts are false atm as they're being added to by multiple log-ons from people who have hit the wrong server by mistake {G-Land currently being the default}.


Khyber and Thelanis have historically been the two most heavily populated servers.

Argo, G-Land & Sarlona are typically 10-15k behind those two.

Cannith and Orien are another 15-20 back

Wayfinder has like 1/5th of the population of either Cannith or Orien.


So as you can see - Swapping to any other server {except Wayfinder obviously} isn't going to significantly affect perceived population - The differences just aren't that big!


You've hit Lvl 12 within a month - To me that's fast for a Newbie but possibly you started with Vet II at Lvl 7.

My suggestion honestly is to go back and create a Lvl 4 on each server incl Wayfinder - Open LFMs for Harbour Elites and farm your 100 Favour on Each.
This'll help you get an idea of each server's playstyles {though don't read too much into the Harbour - Things change quite a lot at higher levels.
It will also gain you a nice sum of Turbine Points {Useful even for a VIP}.

But most of all it will help you get used to leading groups - DDO simply doesn't have enough players on each server willing to start their own parties!

If you're interested in switching servers I'd recommend you roll up a character on one of the other servers and try it out for a week or so. Then you'll see how things are at the times you play. Then you can try the same on another server and compare. This has the added benefit of getting you a lot of free TP from the early favor reward bonus on each server.

You can play an iconic if you want to jump into higher content. Personally I like using the bladeforged as a 2 pally/18 sorc.

As for Guilds:

1) Did you join a guild through asking OR were you Blind Invited i.e. Got a "So and So wants you to join their Guild" Pop-Up?
Typically Blind Invite Guilds are Looked down on - Some Manage to become Huge by doing this but most don't get anywhere.

2) Are you an Officer in your Guild? - If so it's highly probable your guild leader would not be averse to you taking the bit between your teeth and doing some recruiting ya know.

3) Do you have any real ties to your guild at all?
If not then you may want to start looking for another on Argo - There's no need to change servers!
