Default dndclient has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry...

    Hey everyone,

DDO Crashes for me when I select my character and the load in screen pops up but I never actually make it into the game but get the follow error as the game shuts down.

dndclient has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Well I have read several posts where someone has had a similar issue and have not seen any solution put forth by the community that helped the poster. Since most of these posts are aged now I thouht I'd bring the topic back up.

    I'm running
    Window XP on a
    Intel Quad Core at 2.40GHZ
    4.00GB of system RAM
2.00GB of RAM on a NVIDIA GT640 video card
    DirectX 9.0c
    Plenty of HD space available

I have played the game without real issue for years, yes literally for years and now I'm stuck being unable to get fully logged in.

So what have I tried via sugestions from other posts.

    I have uninstalled and reinstalled
    I have deleted .ini files
    I have rebooted
    I have defragged
I have tried installing the low and high res graphic versions
I have tweaked firewall and router settings
Rescently I even went so far as to wipe my harddrive and reloaded the whole **** machine

I doubt there will be any help forthcoming but as a last effort before I just end my VIP status and unistall the game permenantly I thought I'd throw out this call for help once more.

Anyone at all have anything to suggest at this point?

I didn't see it in the list so it may be worth a shot :

Do a 'clean' install of new video drivers (or even try going back a few versions). Make sure it's a 'clean' install.

Failing that you can try things like right clicking on the launcher and the client and set both in compatibility mode to (disable desktop composition) (not sure if XP has that it's been a while since I've used it).

Other than that it looks like you have tried almost everying

Is it only DDO that is crashing? Your computer looks old. Do a memory test.

Update 16 did break DDO under some operating systems, so we can't really rule out an issue with the game

Unhappy Same Problem, at same Place

I am having the same problem as the OP, where I select my character and enter world, but cannot get past the loading screen that follows. I had this problem yesterday (when I first started my account) but I lowered my graphics options to High instead of Very High (Installed the High Res version) and was able to play error free for several hours. Today, after starting up my computer and patching, the problem has recurred, but changing graphics settings lower did not allow me to play as doing so did before.

Here is what I have done so far:
Reduced Graphics to Medium, tried to log back in, no luck.
Ran Directx Diagnostics to see if there were any conflicts there.

I also renamed my UserPreferences.ini file to 121212UserPreferences.ini and tried again, declining to use Directx 10. I still could not log all the way in to the world.
A friend of mine who plays says that he sees me logging in and back out. I imagine that's pertinent information.
I also tried to update my audio drivers (Realtek High Definition Audio) but it said that they were updated.
I have NOT uninstalled and reinstalled yet. That is my last option.
I HAVE ran Windows Update and restarted my computer.
I checked my McAfee Total Protection Firewall and added dndlauncher.exe, which wasn't there before. Everything else important (I believe) was already being allowed full access.

Here is the information from the Windows box that gave me the "dndclient has stopped working" dialogue:
    Code:
    Problem signature:

I THINK that's everything. Please let me know if you see anything in all that code information that points to why this is happening. I just started playing this game yesterday, and I enjoyed my time that I got to play. I would love to continue!

I've been playing DDO on this computer for years; I only started getting this problem after last Thursday.
I log in, it loads up the game, then immediately pops up the notice and crashes.

Given that I haven't changed anything whatsoever on my computer anything near remotely close to recently..

Muh. Just as suddenly as it started, it stopped.

Those having the problem, maybe try again now.

A guildie is having this same problem. Oddly, he can get in on Orien on a low-level
toon and run around, but logging in on any of his toons on Khyber results in what
the folks here are describing. We see him log in on Friends/Guild chat, but he
never makes it into the game.

    Grasping at straws:
    - Try disabling your audio card from Windows.
    - Try starting DDO in "windowed" mode instead of full-screen.

That message your getting now is because the servers aren't back up yet. The other message, I get intermittantly as well. Just try several times or log onto another toon and then back onto the one you want to play. Both of those usually work for me.

    Angry Partial fix

I have exactly the same problem. Tried all the various fixes suggested above plus a bunch of others.

I think I may have found something of a workaround which seems to work (for me anyway). Create a fresh/newbie character and don't put it in a guild or anything like that. When starting the client, first login with this "clean" character then logout and log back in with the alt you actually want to play.

I realise this is far from perfect but it is better than nothing :/
