    Default Crafting Overwrite

    Hey guys,

I'm not following very close the crafting discussion these days but would like to ask if the Overwrite Mechanic has been fixed. For now i had to "zero" one prefix or suffix for crafted items before i could "upgrade" it. Let's say i wanted to upgrade to +5 a +4 Holy Burst Silver Khopesh of Greater Lawful Outsider Bane, to do this i would need to "zero" with cold touch the Holy Burst effect first then upgrade +4 to +5 and then re-add the Holy Burst. Does it still work this way?

    Z.

Zero a prefix? All this time I was disjuncting the entire thing to change any attribute of it once I began.

That's what I have been doing to. What do you mean by zeroing?

If you can find a shard that adds 0 to the ML then you can use that as step to get around the stupid potential calculator. For example:

    Potenial is a 10.
+4 holy of bane (should be 8)

You want to change holy to holy burst. -2 +4 =10, should be allowed, but crafting system just checks 8+4 and rejects you.

So, instead you craft on flametouch (+0 ML). System looks at 8+0=8, and allows the crafting, resulting in a new item that is actually 8-2+0=6.

Then you can take your new +4 flametouch of bane, and add holyburst (6+4=10, success!) to make it the +4 holyburst of bane you wanted in the first place.

There is a setting in options --> Game play that lets you disable the window that pops up that prevents you from overwriting a prefix or a suffix.

When you turn this option on, you can overwrite the prefix or suffix directly.

HOWEVER, the enhancement value compared to the craftable level is messed up. It does not remove the enhancement value of the effect that is being removed before calculating if the new enhancement value can be added.

So, you either have to increase the craftable level to allow room for both the new effect and the old effect. OR you have to replace some effect with a lower level effect to create room.

I've typically removed replaced the +X with a +1 then applied the new effect then increased the +X again. But its an expensive work around.

From my experience, if your item has the potential, you can upgrade a +4 enhancement to +5 without removing anything else. IF that is what you were referring to.

The problem is having enough potential to do that.

He has a +12 weapon he wants to change to +13, potential wise. He's already upgraded it to Craftable +13, but because the +4 Weapon Enhancement Bonus is not erased *prior* to the application of the +5, it will give spit out an error message at you about not having enough Craftable Potential.

So, if I follow all this correctly (I can't believe all the partial upgrades I was doing as full disjunct to rebuild!) then as long as your weapon/item/armor is not already at Max Potential - 1. Then you can downgrade the prefix/suffix you want to change with a low shard (I see where the lowest possible is used in the downgrade), which places you well below your Max Potential. You can then apply the newer (larger) shard in it's place.

I guess in my case I could just take the initial +5 item and increase the potential to +7 or so to give space for the downgrade and fit the upgrade, no?

Yeah, I replace suffixes/prefixes all the time. Either increase the potential or replace with a lower value depending on what option is the cheapest in terms of ingredients required.

There has to be enough potential for the new effect to be applied before the old effect is removed, so if you are adding a +4 enhancement shard, there have to be 4 unused potential on the item.

The OP's question remains: Has this been fixed in 10.2? Is the potential of the shard to be overwritten now ignored in the calculation?

Well, I can confirm that I still get a maximum potential crafting error when upgrading a +1 effect to a +2 effect even if there is still 1 potential level left.

Just in case but don't forget the bug reports, good or bad it's the way bugs make into the priority list.

    Current state of lamannia:

    1) The option to disable overwrite warning is no longer exist after 10.1 (not on live any more), and not available on Lamannia (let's call it 10.2) as well

    2) I had attempt to overwrite shard after dev up the crafting level (on both character and device) and fail.

    3) One other crafter did claim that he used to be able to overwrite shard right before dev came to lift the level cap, and now he couldn't.

(And yes, I know how exactly to overwrite the shard )

I also found some wonky min level issue on returning craftable weapon with guild slot, but has to get another returning with guild slot to test it out.
