The items are exclusive. You will have to givei up your Plate in order for him to make you something else, sorry.

The hardest part is probably the temple, either rush in overheal and mass kill or attract them out.
Note also that you can switch items but then the smith will ask more ore.
Ah, glad to hear that folks are still finding this useful!
Re: turning in the item for a different type...this used to be bugged, the smith used to just take your first item. If that's been fixed...fantastic.
Bump! I have updated the OP with some information related to a recent update.
People still buy heavy fort items because the super-special ingred for heavy fort in Cannith crafting comes from Threnal and we all know how everyone loves to run Threnal

On the topic of some 'rogue-type' mobs gaining fortification bypass feats...I have not tested this much yet, data on which mobs have this ability would be nice to compile a list of to help prepare players. (As a general rule, if being attacked by several melee mobs at the same time, focusing your targeting on the 'rogue-types' first prevents that specific mob's attacks counting as sneak attacks)
Similarly, mobs that use Improved Sunder would be worth a list: I've noticed some Duergar using it at least...
While the Crystal Cove is here for this next week and a bit, it's a way for free to players to get Exceptional Fortification via the upgraded Stalwart Trinket (as well as an awesome Stoneskin guard effect).
I'd also like to recommend the Nightforge Darkhelm
+2 Wisdom, +5 Will Save and 3 charge Prot Evil Clickie {Now 5 mins per click btw - DDO Wiki pic not been updated recently}.
I pick this up after the Gorget and the Bracers - 2 runs - 15 ores per run - 30 ores = all 3 items.

I noticed the guide was updated recently and I sincerely would like to thank you, I never bothered with the Adamantine Ore mechanics but now my low level toons will have these awesome pieces of gear with Yellow Augment Slots without trying my luck on AH ((Turbine... please add a suffix for Augment Slots...))
http://ddowiki.com/page/Nightforge_Gorget == Neck: Heavy Fort and Yellow Augm
http://ddowiki.com/page/Nightforge_Armbands == Wrists: Imp False Life, 3/day Heroism and Yellow Augm
http://ddowiki.com/page/Nightforge_Darkhelm == Head: Will +5, Wisdom +4, Prot from Evil 3/day and Yellow Augm
The augment slots will save me a lot of trouble, thank you!
I'd also like to thank you for updating this thread. It's a big help for new players, and I was thrilled to see that you had updated it when I linked to it just now in my Tempest Trapmonkey thread's gear post. Thanks much!
