    Default Thank you for Mabar

I had concerns that gratitude might have been lost amidst the hundreds of threads identifying problems with spawns, drop rates, etc., so:

Thank you. Thank you for getting Mabar up in time for Halloween, even with Sandy and everything else thrown at you folks. It was amazing to have it up and running on a day when most facilities down where I am, which wasn't even hit very hard at all, were still shuttered.

Agreed. Has been a nice distraction for those of us worried about the election, too.

Disagree completely. I found it to be in poor taste and remarkably lacking in empathy. Like millions of other people, I had no power or internet for days and days. Specifically, I lost all services Monday night, fibnally got power back Saturday afternoon and then phone/internet/cable was restored this (Tuesday) afternoon, 8 days after I went dark. So I completely missed out on half of Mabar this year due to Sandy.

I was quite surprised they opted to run an event while so many people were clearly unable to get online or even heat their homes. Personally I think it was in poor taste.

Yeah, on Friday and Saturday the 4-9 instance was working perfectly and spawning the correct CR mobs. It was a great time and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The rest of the time the nagging guilt about ruining at level spawns in the 8-12 instance ruined things a bit.

Yes, despite various lag and bugs i really enjoyed mabar. Managed to figure out how to get a decent mote/hour ratio and actually got all the things I had planned on getting

I hope you guys continue to work on smoothing out the issues, but please continue to promote events. It helps me enjoy the game immensely breaking up some monotony. Mabar is one of my favorite and I hope to see it back for a visit later this month.

    Thank you.

Same. It was fun to boot around in there for a bit. Appreciate the effort devs, especially during the hurricane.

Although I sympathize with the drama that happened over there, and understand that you feel the world should stop and pay attention to your problem, unfortunately the world doesn't stop. As probably you never felt the need to stop playing a game when there is an earthquake in China, or a Tsunami in Japan, or major storms in Europe.

I'm glad that in the end, you are alive and kicking to complain about some game, I hope you and your family recover well from Sandy.

    Carry on.

Add me to the thank you list, despite the problems I had fun with Mabar and I know a lot of effort was made to get it out by Halloween.

This is an American game made by a company who was in the path of the same storm that I'm talking about. It's hardly a matter of something halfway around the world.

I do feel that people in the storm should stop and pay attention to the storm, yes absolutely. And I don't think that's remotely unreasonable.

EDIT: if you recall, they cancelled their scheduled maintenance last Monday because of the storm. As in, the storm they were concerned was coming at them. Hardly an earthquake in China in terms of immediate personal relevance.

If this were a Japanese game, and the home offices were within easy driving distance of the devastation caused by the tsunami last year or the year before, I would fully expect them to not hold a once-a-year event in the immediate aftermath of the tsunami. That would strike me as inappropriate and disrespectful.

Then it would. They could keep the game going so they did. Nothing disrespectful about it.

    Thanks for the reply.

You may also consider that, for the Turbine people, getting Mabar up and running despite the problems (both software and hardware related), was a way of them fighting Sandy and coming through. Just a matter of perspective.

I didn't suggest shutting the game down. I suggested that maybe when 8 million of your neighbors (and potential customers) lose power for up to a week, don't run your yearly event during that week. Maybe waiting til Monday might have been the classier move.

Maybe as a company you could demonstrate some empathy for people in your area.

I'll join the ranks of those that appreciate your efforts and achievements. Great job DDO team. Especially at such a turbulent time. Thank you for Mabar and the game in general.

And what about all the other customers that are unaffected, should Turbine delay their plans for people who planned vacation time around Mabar and just so happened to live outside of the area of Sandy's influence? I'm sure the people in Germany would appreciate the fact that Turbine was so considerate.

Second point, Mabar was finally ended today and has been promised again, later in November. This, more then anything, seems to be a fair compromise. I didn't loose power due to Sandy, I appreciated being able to do my Mabar farming despite the hurricane. You missed over half of Mabar, good news, Turbine is bringing it back (in such a time frame as everyone should be settled from Sandy and able to farm it!)!

People who planned their vacation time around Mabar fared no better, as Mabar started a week later than it was scheduled. That ship had already sailed.

I'm sure the people in Germany would appreciate the fact that Turbine was so considerate.
As was pointed out earlier in the thread, nobody cares what happens halfway around the world. That's just part of human nature. However, most people do care what happens in their own backyard, and Sandy happened in Turbine's back yard.

Sure, now that everybody else is all farmed out, how about for the late November run Turbine gives a nod to Sandy victims and sets the instance turn-in to 10k instead of 15k since so many fewer people will be farming motes.

I got online 14 hours ago. The Mabar instance has run twice in those 14 hours, and only once in the past 12 hours.

So, why should the customers who didnt lose their internet care about your complaints, you live halfway across the world. And you seem to be more concerned about you missing out on Mabar than anything else. Dressing it in fancy clothes and claiming something about respecting the victims is just plain disrespectful.
