after they make more content they can do a graphics revamp. As graphics go, ddo is superior to almost everything on the market at ultra high, so yeah.
graphics takes a loooooooot of coding, especially if you want it to overlay an existing game. New content equating to about 1/3 of existing content would take less effort than a graphics revamp.
also, i think the worst graphics are probably wooden ones, but there arent a lot of those around. well, except in low level areas like the harbor...

Of all examples, rift?
Rift isn't really much 'prettier' than DDO in any sense - they just have more cinematic scenery due to the nature of the game.
I think DDO on max settings in Dx11 is really rather nice as-is.
Custom graphics profiles go a long way to help with the odd lighting.
Back to the topic of making DDO prettier... why not have another texture upgrade, at least?
OH!!! And instead of making new armor kits for us to BUY, how about adding some more armor appearances into the randomly generated rotation of armors out there? We can start seeing prettier armors that we don't have to buy.
The only graphics in DDO that scream update/fix/help me please I'm ugly beyond imagining/ was beaten by a branch of the ugly tree/cosmetic surgery catastrophe.... are the faces of halfelves.
I can only imagine that someone at Turbine has a vendetta against halfelves or elsewise why punish the entier race with the cruelty of hideousness? Or maybe its a balance issue... you know balance the bonus of halfelf dilettante with being forced to play a character that is virtually impossible to make attractive. *shrug*

I prefer ddo to not lag than being prettier. And I don't want to have to upgrade my computer to be able to play the same game. I'm fine with the actual look of the game.

Perhaps an alteration such as in "The Rainbow In The Dark" -All the dungeons are similarly in pitch darkness. This would surely be a simple client side modification but would alter tactics of groups immensely.
One member of the group would have to keep a hand free to carry the torch, dwarfarians cant belt ahead and annihilate all the barrels, mobs leap out of the shadows...
Fire spells would also have to have a luminating effect, albeit temporary. Torches could be found in chests, longer life torches in the store. Hirelings could carry a torch for you if it gets all too stressful for you.
All other dungeons seemed a tad vanilla after the Rainbow darkness dungeon. Granted I havent reached lvl 20 yet.

Implementing some sort of DnD style vision across races would be interesting...
Consider:
* Low-Light vision/Dark vision endowed races would be differentiated from those without. (Sorry, that Dwarfarian can see 60ft so will still run ahead and smash those barrels, and the elf can see quite well as long as there's a few glowing insects about. Humans will find walls and other obstacles with their noses and shins).
* Torches/lanterns would be somewhat of a necessity/copper sink at least at lower levels.
* Arguments over who has to carry the light source, followed by BYOLight LFMs.
* Magic vision assistance gear could enter the system and help do "stealth" missions - at least when they give you the power to extinguish torches (and give mobs their own torches to light if they need to).
* You're a human creeping through an unlit bit of dungeon without a torch or magic light source, you bump into something and "someone" with a really deep voice says: "Dad, is that you?"
* Dark vision would look something like washing colours to black and white and limiting the range of rendered objects, superimposed with a proportion of the colour they would normally see if there is light - the closer to complete darkness, the more black and white the scenery gets and the less they see in the distance.
* Gamma options cranked right up regularly for human characters just starting out, and retinas burned out when they step back outside into the sunshine.
* Rainbow in the Dark could impose a magical suppression of vision abilities, creating a reliance on that particular torch. Everything else just gets that bit spookier/more mysterious (for first timers at least).
Properly implemented, it could improve the atmosphere, but I foresee it would be a lot of work!
