Interesting point. Comes up alot between pd guilds, and valid if we were playing by the rules of the planet Earth in the Milky Way Galaxy. Or even the planet PnP in a galaxy far far away. However , I think the P in PD is deserved on the DDO planet. Reasonable allowances, ie natual laws, are acceptable imho for different environments. I don't think there is an equivilent chain of quests in PnP comparable to the chain in DDO needed get to level 10, flag for von, and do Velah. If there was, how many years would that take without a death if all was perfect. By equivilent chain I am thinking about the length of the quests, # of mobs, # of quests needed to get equivilent xp, # of kills, # of battles, and so on. Man has crossed the English Channel using human powered flight. Does that lessen a flight to the moon using a Titan rocket? lmao, now that was funny man, even i laughed, admit it Anyway, of course not.

I'm not going to try to compare soloing, one, or two manning the Shroud with PDing Velah for a thousand different reasons. But the aim was the same, to challenge themselves and their friends to do something special. So, yeah, lmao rofl if no one died that would have been great and you would have been a little more impressed. But really man, how much more of a difference is there between eight surviving to tell the tale and eleven? Don't even tell me a level 14 and a 16 gimped this run lol.

Actually, what caught my attenion most about your post was the part where you said, "I do not mean to poo-poo on your accomplishment, but I couldn't help but notice all the dead people in the first screenshot. It looks just like when non-PD groups run". So, what, is it supposed to look different? This was never about one battle in case you missed the point, it was about the journey. Yeah, PD to level 8, and higher effectively with so few clerics in parties, or start all over again with no gold and no gear. If you make it to 10, 11, or 12 lets go wipe on velah so you can start all over again. That party, with the exception of a couple missing players who could not make it, was that guilds total culmination of two years work.

Personally I am impressed and I know you are not and that is fine. But the more I read about these pd guilds the more I like it.

    Thanks Wizzy.
I like it... I like it alot!

    Default Permadeath

Velah was a great challenge. And I, like Vane believed it was a one way trip. I had no means of teleporting and simply ran the toon as he has always run... headlong into it, heh. Dragoloth is the level 14 WF tank in the group. Actually I was quite impressed and pleased when i went back through my combat log and discovered I was in a bad spot and received no healing the entire battle, yet survived.... til Velah fell on me, ROFL. What a way to go. Fortunately one of comrades was able to reactivate this unit and with repairs I will be soloing the desert and orchard again soon. We do not avoid certain quests because we are permadeath, we have attemted every one presented thus far and succeeded through superior teamwork and gameplay. This is not to say we have run every single quest in the game... but we certainly do not shy away from them either. With smaller numbers than most guilds and permadeath rules thinning the ranks of the lower level toons regularly, it was quite a feat to orchestrate this raid. It was over the span of months that toons were flagged and some of us were getting anxious. So we just did it. There wasnt really any long term planning for the actual raid, A day was set and word sent out.

Their guild, their rules. It's definitely an achievement. Congrats folks. AtD is foraying a bit as well, and we make our own rules for our little PD group, but the look of death has a different meaning for sure.

    WELL DONE!

Ahhh, but 11 will be telling the tale, not 8, which is what I was getting at.

Regardless of whether or not some yahoo on the forums (me) is impressed, it is an accomplishment. It is not my place to tell others how to play.

    Talking Awsome Accomplishment

Hmmmm. I remember the first time I played PnP about 25 years ago. My lvl4 ranger died and the cleric was able to pray hard enuf to get me rezz'd....but it cost me an alignment change and the loss of my right arm...imagine trying to learn how to swing a sword as a lefty lmao, as well as having to throw my bow down

    OK....on topic now.

Sublime, in my book, what ya'll did was impressive. I really enjoyed reading your accomplishment.

Perhaps one day, I will delve into the PD world.

If you've ever seen the Twilight Zone episode where the guy lets you win a new car if you can light a lighter 10 times in a row, or chops a finger off if you can't .. that pretty much is what PD is about. Easy when there are no consequences, but much more fun when something is on the line.

Anyways, congrats all, you pretty much found the holy grail. Wish I coulda been there.

Awesome, guys! So glad to see Lessah was part of the group ... Carliee misses playing with her fave Lady in Waiting. I've never played in Sublime, but feel like you're our brothers and sisters in PD. Just wish we'd beaten you to it :P

    ----
ahem....congratulating someone for "feeling" they accomplished something is like saying "I don't think you actually accomplished something, but I'm glad you feel like you did." It's what's called a backhanded compliment. Whether or not it was meant that way, that's what it's going to communicate to most people (there, everyone happy with my semantics now?).

and...the greatest weapon isn't knowledge of the quest, it's the ability of the player(s) in the party. You can know everything about a quest, but if you can't execute it or communicate/work well with your partymates, you have nothing.

So....stop whining about others saying you were insulting it by calling it a non-achievement.

If you've never played PD, you don't have a clue what a PD accomplishment is. Getting to level 6 is an accomplishment. Getting to level 10 is an accomplishment. Re-rolling the same toon 17 times is an accomplishment. Keeping your friends alive in a tough fight is an accomplishment. I've been there done those.

Taking down Velah is a huge accomplishment, especially without a full party...11-3=Velah taken down by a party of 11 taken down to a party of 8. That one I've not done.

Oh, and I've played with Lessah and safe spot or no, she's an awesome player and fun as everything to play with!!!!

Default Well Done and Congratz to All

Never before playing Perma Death I can only Imagine the sense of Accomplishment you All must feel. In fact it is an inspiring accomplishment to anyone who can try to Imagine how much more fulfilling this game must be to all of you, Compared to capping out and running shroud over and over 6+times a day and becoming so bored with where the end of the Line has led for now.(Reavers Refuge was exciting for about 2 weeks)

and yet the Adventure for all of you has still just begun.

I'm gonna run it by my guild, get a Rule set in Place and maybe get a few others to make up a party to keep it interesting between mods.

    Congrats again Sublime

Default To My brothers in Sublime:

I am THRILLED how the Raid turned out. While "Ale" was nowhere ready in power for such a journey, know that he prayed to Dol of the Host quite frequently for you to find your way, then your way back. Praise the Pantheon for causing people with talents to return the fallen in the moments of Victory!

So way to go my fellow Sublimers! It is an AMAZING chalenge and accomplishment you did! I hope to join you on your next raid as my PC leaps into levels as of now....

    And to Wizzie......

Well, I just want to thank you for your opinion if you think it means anything to you. I mean, due to your complete lack of knowledge and facts on their Guild, rules, Raid setup and their run. It takes a noted authority on somebody who thinks "I know enough" to state such wise conclusions. Nice job!

And to help others with the Permadeath understanding (but guild rules may vary) D&D worlds have many places to rest and recover gaining spells and SOME health, but we don't have raise dead zones either. That's how Sublime treats it. If a CHARACTER has the means (spell or ability) or item they learned to use (such as UMDing a scroll of resurrection,) then just like in the older game, the fallen may return....and we follow the "guidelines" of the spell (unless true resurrection which is broad enough to recover most anybody if done in the AREA OF DEATH IN THAT MOMENT however) to see if enough was recoverable to do.

Even so, one must survive to a certain level before being able to even be brought back no matter what.

    'Nuff said.

Any interesting in learning more about Our Permadeath ways of the Sublime on Thelanis may journey to the website http://thesublimeguild.com/ or ask any player or officer on the Thelanis Server at the time. We love to answer questions and look forward to any people wanting to join up.

Even the before doubters, you are welcome too.

Be careful what you wish for, what you say is best; for sometimes what you seek is found, not at the end of the quest.

Wow great job guys! Gives me something to look forward to someday!

And to the haters, seriously, why comment at all if you don't think it's a valid achievement? If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. No need for sand-kicking. Sheesh.

    Default PD wannabe

Man do I wish I had the time, patience, and --- above all -- cahones to play PermaDeath.

That must be the biggest rush on earth knowing that any quest could be your last.

Strake, I think your semantic objection is rather silly. While you don't come off as being mean (I ignore those who do), do you really need them to say "DeathIsPermanentWhenItWouldBePermanentUnderRealis ticInterpretationOfTheFantasyWorld"? I think Permadeath is an acceptable shortening thereof.

GREAT JOB GUYS! I have worked very, very hard at some accomplishments in my life (e.g. qualifying for Nationals in slalom water skiing) so I know how utterly amazing reaching such a milestone feels. I also know you will laugh off the doubters who have never tried it.

And congrats on the feat of slaying Velah with only 3-4 rez's. Really good job!

lol... someone has to give! What about the "true" perma-deathers (not meant as a slight on guilds like sublime) - the ones that delete upon death, no ifs, ands, or buts? Do they have to call themselves the

    TrulyPermanaentDeathWhenYouDieYouDeleteNoException sNoNothingDontDieOrYoullBeSad-ers?

(out of curiosity, anyone know of any guilds that exist like this?).

Sublime, I hope that my comments in this thread have been taken the right way. If you'd prefer that I stop commenting in this thread, send a PM and I will cease immediately.

Maybe Parvo and I can come up with some sort of friendly wager on which guild beats the Demon Queen raid first , I could send some fresh Maine lobsters if MV beats us

Mortal Voyage has a rez limit of 1/2 your CON, Sublime just has a level 4 minimum on being raised.

It's a hard thing for me. Character-wise, MV was ready for the dragon long ago. We debated it both internally and externally. The only reason we did not proceed was because of the strict no-spoilers rule and the goofy mechanics used in DDO raids. Some suggested we suspend that rule for raids. But I didn't create the MV rule set in a manner that entitles us to all the content. Indeed, it is the unlikelyness(sp?) of the victory that makes it worthy of pursuit. If we do a raid like this, we'll just have to learn those mechanics as we go. If it means rerolling a few high level characters, so be it. You know me well enough, all I need is a party willing to put it on the line and I'm there. I love lobster...If Sublime wins we'll send a case of our regional delicacy, Copenhagen
