Default 2 Different FVS 20 DC Builds: Wisdom vs. Charisma

All I can say is wow! Favored soul is so fun to play with the recent changes. I wanted to show 2 builds here - the first is a fairly maxed out Wisdom build for high reaper, but the build can easily be modified if you don't have all the past lifes. The second is a blasting high DC Charisma build designed for low to mid skull which tries to strike a balance between DC and DPS.

Both builds are casual and new player friendly (even though the wisdom build shows a maxed out character) as the 300 hp from the level 7 Stout of Heart feat and the 5% hp bonus from falconry provide a significant boost to hp. Aasimar offers the additional 10% hp boost and both Aasimar and Dragonborn provide healing amp.

Dragonborn provides an option for +3 evocation which replaces the need to twist it in and removing the need to spell focus evocation at all as long as you are in exalted angel. You can actually have a higher evocation DC as a charisma Dragonborn caster, but that is not the goal of the Charisma build I am presenting. I am trying to have a high DC and better DPS than the wisdom version as it's intended as a solo/short man low to mid skull build.

    Comparison to Cleric DC Casting
In all honesty, I would only ever choose Cleric over favored soul for the special purpose of specializing as a necro cleric for the extra destruction SLA. Although I am likely to choose Wizard or Warlock over either if I want to specialize in necro. The higher light spellpower from the elemental clerics is certainly an advantage in boss fights, but that's not a strength of either build. The +3 DC in the fvs cores and +1 stat benefit over cleric is key because it means favored soul will always have better DC in secondary schools and that is key to me as the game stands today.

Wisdom Vs. Charisma - No Right Answer Only Many Opinions
The main advantage Wisdom has is a higher DC mass frog which is a very significant and versatile mass instakill, but with a lower dc potential compared to regular favored soul spells. Mass frog was much stronger a few years ago when fortitude saves were much lower. It's still a very effective spell and even with minimal wisdom investment it's useful on many undead and constructs.

The main advantage of Charisma is versatility and higher DC potential since Dragonborn gains +3 evocation DC and the magister tree supports charisma but not wisdom. Likewise the draconic incarnation tree supports charisma but not wisdom which enables a charisma build to more easily switch between DC, DPS and Straight Healing

About Healing Spec For Raids and Quests
I am going to show the spec for max dc with reasonable healing support vs. a raid healing spec. A raid healing spec will be 41 + pts in Beacon of Hope for healing wall, party buffs, etc.

One frustrating aspect of playing favored soul is that many people expect you to spec primarily for healing even though healing wall is not needed for non-raid content. If you want to play favored soul be prepared for non-sensical comments from people that don't play favored soul when they ask you throw up a healing wall and you explain your main tree is AoV. For raiding I do respec for healing wall, but not for questing.

I am going to show 2 sets of enhancements for favored soul - one is casting first/healing second and the other healing first/casting second. I tend to go casting first for quests and healing first for raids.

    Default Wisdom dc build

EDIT 3/28/2021 - this build is significantly out of date but will be updated within the next few weeks. I am currently running the charisma build over the wisdom build, but the wisdom build is still strong as it adds an extra mass instakill (mass frog)

I am showing this build as a completely maxed out build with 12 racial AP, high reaper AP, etc. The build is still highly effective without these things. I do not have all the bonuses I am showing and the build was effective in a high reaper PUG. At the bottom of the AP spend area I show how to back out AP spend to get back to 80.

    Race: Aasimar

If you already have Leap of Faith from being a FvS, the Epic Destiny version speeds up the recharge rate of the counters. I would probably use something else though. I usually grab Judgement/Lay to Rest/Judge the Many. It's fun to use and cause a chain reaction on a group of Undead.

Fair points but I like the slightly faster recharge time esp in places like the end fight of Slavers 3. If I could find something amazing for 1 point I would probably drop but 10 spellpower - meh.

I just created the WIS version of this build on a new level 7 first lifer Aasimar.
The build feels a little weak as a fresh level 7. I am a bit puzzled as to why to choose the quarterstaff deity, which removes the ability to use shields...
I mean, I understand the premise of using Qstaff and Soundburst to stun mobs and smack on them, which is cool and all. But what about mobs who save?
This new level 7 has no AoE at all. I went into Kobolds New Brotherhood, which is where I test all new builds. Went in on R1.

The build held up on its own, but toward the end with misplaced or dodged ray SLA's that AoV gets some mobs got to me and were able to hit me.
I think I would feel much better in this case blocking with a tower shield and then casting sound burst and then an AoE on them after they are stunned.
Heals werent that bad on R1, with the -60% penalty I had to use some SP for close wounds (empowered so I am not having to button mash for 5 minutes on R1).
The druid build and the warlock ES builds felt stronger. This build might be stronger, as it goes along later on with more feats and enhancement points and better AA, but as a low level first lifer it felt a little weak.

Also, the low starting strength (8) was pretty low and a first lifer fresh toon will get encumbered quick with the **** they give you as a level 7, I dont think any of it had STR on any of it. I am going to re-make him with bond of the fallen (+1 str, better than nothing) and go with a faith where I can at least use a shield. Later on needing a shield might not matter, but leveling without a shield as a caster sucks.

You're expectations running reaper as a first life character and new to the game probably need to be adjusted.

    You didnt read my post.

I said I use that quest on R1 as a litmus test for all first lifer level 7 builds.

I am aware that higher level dungeons with traps etc and other types of mobs on R1 on first life will tear up several builds.

Angel of Vengeance - 21-37 depending on # of racial AP

Note: I don't find healing wall necessary for questing unless you are with a high-need group, but you might need to make the switch if the party needs more healing than usual. For raids you will need to make this change every time because you never know when you might be called into healing mode even if there is another primary healer.

    Boss Fight Swaps
For boss fights you should always swap to clouded dreams and legendary queen's sceptre for extra crits and spellpower. You should also swap in respendlent fury for all your light/alignment spells and back to the shield after those spells. Light and alignment spells benefit up to 50% vulnerability from shield of condemnation so maxing out this damage with resplendent fury is highly beneficial.

You can actually achieve a higher DC as a charisma caster if you spec for it, but I think if you want a max DC build Wisdom is better due to the addition of Mass Frog.

    Race: Dragonborn
    Alignment: True Neutral
    Faith: Aureon
Just wondering if the choice of Dragonborn race is specific to the build - ie, can this build be used by a human or a drow, or was there a reason dragonborn was chosen?
EDIT: I just looked at dragonborn, I'm assuming that it was chosen because of the bonus to CHA? Although I have to wonder about the alignment - is that just because of the faith being Aureon?

Another question: does your choice of deities automatically give you proficiency for that deity's favored weapon - like the long sword? Or did I waste a feat getting the feat that covers long sword?

Yes dragonborn is for the charisma, but also because it gives you access to spell pen (fixed as of today- wasn't working prior). Drow will also work fine, but you end up with worse stats overall vs. dragonborn with no real upside over dragonborn. Human is also good because you translate that extra feat into a DC so you are effectively only down 1 char point which is easy enough to work out esp since you can get +3 cha with an action boost. If you don't have access to dragonborn I would choose human over drow.

    Rats.

I might have to swap out goggles for collective sight and use pansophic to fit everything in. I have a to work on another project today, but will take a look at it tonight or tomorrow.

I only care about Devotion and Light spellpower. Even then the light damage is really marginal in comparison, just something to do .

Collective sight ( 10 insight con, 4 quality saves, 20 insight mrr, +2 good luck )
Unbreakable Stormreach guard ( 19 con, 67 vitality, fort save 16, +2 reaper stats, only one I pulled ever )
    Slavers neck ( quality con 4, 14 resistance ), that's what I have already
Epic Litany ( +2 profane stats , necro and enchant augment )
Hallowed Trail ( radiance lore and spellpower )
Black Satin ( +2 quality spell mastery, maybe + 5 quality wis one day ) Silverthread belt when I need more devo.
    Shattered Onyx ( 10 insight wisdom, +2 profane spell mastery, insight resistance + 5, 10 dodge )
LGS spellpoints gloves I already have
    Slavers boots ( 4 quality wisdom )
Wisdom artefact ring ( 22 wisdom, +2 festive wis, globe, +2 wis thread filigree, 2 x whatever wisdom filigree, 29 wisdom item ftw )
Hallowed bracers ( Devo and insight sheltering, evo aug )
Blessed Vestments ( +2 armored agility means 15 dodge )

Nightmother and Devil defense ( 4 quality con , 49 mrr ) 4 piece Beholder and 4 x random wisdom

Will eventually craft that 5 quality wisdom on belt, maybe charisma on goggles. Recraft that resistance on boots, idk. It's alright now already, such a pita to regear ANY toon with Sharn. Only if charisma necklace artifact had wisdom option. Castery wisdom artefact on bracers ?! Thank whoever for those craftable goggles.

About 124 wisdom, 125 Evo, 110 other schools, 200 prr, 150 mrr, 2.5k hp in reaper.

Shahang (hjealme), Wipekin (kotc), Nezhat (barbie) Ghallanda/Devourer

    No wizardy item?
