Default Temple of Elemental Evil optionals suggestion

So, I've heard the devs are working on Temple of Elemental Evil and want to give more incentive to run the optionals.

While I am waiting in a bugged out Von5 for a GM to answer, this popped into my head (which means it might have already been suggested):

If you want people to run the optionals instead of zerging to the finish, why don't you tie in optionals with increased drop rate in the end chest? For example, doing X optionals increases the chances for an item to drop in the end chest by Y%.

    Just a suggestion.

The drop rate should also be increased by how many times the halfling is eaten by giant frogs.

Or make optionals a requirement to complete. Its not like we don't already have quests like that. Still could get bonus xp, still get a chest and players won't make yet another quest linear.

I like the idea of optionals changing drop rate...

    Now there's a catch...

I don't think it's possible with the current game tech... As far as I know the loot tables are fixed and can't be modified on the fly.
I'd really love to be told I'm wrong on that one though, because it would open so many possibilities.

So far the best thing to make people run for the optionals is to give them something worthy to run, either in XP, or in Named Loot.

They could always spawn and extra chest in the end fight with a chance to drop the named items, like they do in the deal and the demon chest since they moved the spider chest to the end.

    EDIT: Also in Weapon Shipment.

Now that's something that already exist, so it could be possible to implement...

Also in Let Sleeping Dust Lie... For the extra chest spawns for optional completion, at quest completion...
since a given loot table is tied to a given chest.... [but there can be several chests with the same loot table] it's totally possible to do what you suggest.

What might also be possible is to spawn a different chest depending on how many objectives have been completed, each having its own loot formula.

Although, just spawning extra chests works just as fine.
That's not lag, it's just DDO trying to become turn-based again.

    YES!

I know I keep saying this but...

    ADD EPIC FROGS!!!!

What do we have to do to get a proper frog around here?

    Also to OP.

    Yeah perhaps.

Extra chest at the end for each optional would probably be easiest to do.

Kind of like the end of CitW except with less NPC talking please.

Umm... A 'required' optional isn't exactly... "optional", then.

alternative could be a random item drop spawn chance in breakables much like von 4 with Bloodrage Symbiant, or have a random spawn chance for items in gold piles on the floor.

Spawning more chests is probably easier.... And it's more rewarding... even it's full of vendor trash... You get more stuff.

I think that's a great idea. Yea that sounds cool. Also how about upping the XP bonus for doing optional.

I don't think that would be enough for me, just saying.. I already skip chest's in some quest's in favor of quick XP. Vendor trash ahhhh I don't know

    Yes.

I hope this is a start of a new thing: Adapting classic D&D modules to DDO... there are so many good ones. I don't care what it drops - just make it fun!!!! Please don't bastardize it for the sake of brand recognition. From the very first basic D&D adventure I had: Keep on the Borderlands, a box set that had the Caves of Chaos adventure in it whose map had a tunnel that lead off the map and said "To the Temple of Elemental Evil" to the first Greyhawk module I had The Village of Homlet that had a path that lead off the map that said "To the Temple of Elemental Evil" I have been fascinated with what this temple might hold. Years later (sadly after I stopped playing table-top D&D) I seen a giant module as big as a book called TTOEE - I bought and read the module, but never played it... It is huge!! I hope the DDO adventure pack is just as enterprising. Stoked!!

Want people to run the optionals... make them mandatory for completion the first run through of each difficulty level with better chances at the end chest loot drops for each optional you complete after the first run through.

if you can do that thing with that dragonmark on the fly for better loot, then all you have to do is auto-dragonmark-buffing chests after each optional completed. in theory.
