Because magic.
Because magic.
Just a random, forgettable NPC doing things an NPC does
Things that NPCs do include, but are not limited to:
Having a gold goblet over my head to indicate availability of a quest
Having a catchphrase that never really catches on
Having various rewards that are generally not worth the trouble
Wandering around randomly
Giving out obvious information if it wasn't obvious enough
Repeating the same lines over and over again

It's a not-so-subtle reminder that Feather Falling items are REALLY important!!

it is what it is..... and it could of been lava instead... And then again it could be something to do with the missing stormreach teleporter in the market... but still glad its not the twelve ..
I have it on good authority from Delvarrion Iravati that it is because of the Devil Invasion of the Marketplace long ago. It tampered with something in the fabric of reality, weakening it at that place. As water searches for a path of least resistance going to the ocean, so do the currents of unguided magic, as in the failed teleport case.
Good question. Why DOES a failed teleport **only** drop you from above the Marketplace? Why does a failed teleport drop you from the sky above The Marketplace?
...And furthermore, why are you locked into an invisible chimney so you can't glide around on the way down???
{There's no rule against answering a question with a question.}
It's the destination of least resistance -- after decades of concentrated humanoid activity, ozone depletion is at its greatest directly over the marketplace and this section of thinner atmosphere requires less energy to arrive at than any other.
What actually happens is that The Doctor catches you in the hyperspace region the teleport spell accesses, steers the TARDIS to above the marketplace & drops you out.. you don't see most of the process due to the time it'd take to animate all that, plus there are naturally the licensing issues.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.
Why does a failed teleport drop you from the sky above The Marketplace?
Just because You cannot drop from the sky below The Marketplace.
Because no one has thought to use the random teleport list from jumping off an airship yet.

It's always a shame when the hammer of poor design choices smashes the fun of player tactical adaptation.

Because people can witness either the grace of people featherfalling or people who decided to become reverse rocketeers.
It's the "known" portal into Stormreach. After all that's where they had to invade, to blow the tent up.
