(And far, FAR fewer of the ones who find something to whine about even when someone does something nice... You've taken the initiative to do a REALLY NICE THING, and you deserve to do it the way YOU want to!)
Yes, I agree with this. +1 goes to Leclaire. People have no idea how much work and planning it takes to coordinate an event like this. They are giving up their own time and loot.

Hi all! Guerric/Carrianne from the Forever Knights of Orien here. As many of you know, Cordovan held trivia events these past few days in honor of ddo's 8th anniversary and Dungeons and Dragon's 40th. Many of us who work during normal hours were disappointed on having missed out on the fun, but Cordovan offered to support an event if a player wanted to run it. Hence we are having a round 2 of trivia with prizes from Cordovan on Orien, with a slightly different twist- while there will be some DDO questions, their will be an emphasis on classic Dungeons and Dragons trivia, focused particularly on the first three and a half editions of D&D.

    When it will take place

This event will take place on Saturday, March 8, at 2pm EST. We'll go for as many rounds as we have prizes/interest for.

    Where it will take place

The event will take place on the guild ship of the Forever Knights of Orien. Participants will be teleported to the ship for each round.

    The prizes

Cordovan has given me ten 500 Turbine Point Codes, a Snowy Owl Bear Companion Certificate, and a few other flavor items to give to the champions each round. Additionally, we'll be offering awards from the personal coffers of myself and some of my fellow Forever Knights, including sets of dragon scales, x10 stacks of GS mats, 100k, 50k, and 10k plat awards for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place winners, a Draconic Soul Gem, a True Imperial Globe of Dragon Blood, and some named items as well. All participants will earn rewards regardless of how well you do, so there's no reason not to give it a shot!

    How it works

These will be run a bit differently than Cordovan's event. I'll be emceeing the event on Guerric (he has more inventory space than Carri) along with Olathural, who will help to form groups, distribute items, and possibly host a round at his option. We will put up the LFM and form raid groups for each round. At the beginning of the round, I'll teleport you to our guildship and give instructions over voice (if you are unable to hear I will accommodate, but I'd prefer you be able to hear voice if able), as this will expedite things greatly. Rather than rolling off for a chance to respond, which will take forever, I will put the questions in party chat and the first person to type in the correct answer (answers will be 1 to 3 words typically) will receive a point. These questions will be in six categories, and at the beginning of the game a die roll will determine who gets to pick the first category, and a d20 will be rolled each round to determine randomly which question is asked. There will also be high point challenge questions and other mechanics which I will explain during the event. The categories will be D&D Editions and Rulesets, Classic Modules, Lore and Campaign Settings, Game History, D&D Video Games, and Dungeons and Dragons Online. Each round will last 20 mins or until all questions are asked. Whoever receives the most points at the end each round will get their first pick from a set of prizes including the point codes (multiple codes will be given out each round). The runner up and others will then get to pick prizes in descending order of points earned until everyone has something. The winner will additionally receive some of the unique flavor items to honor his or her victory. I'll most likely host a final round with champions from earlier rounds for an additional reward (likely the owlbear certificate and a point code). We'll most likely do two to three rounds prior to the final one.

What will the questions be like?

The questions will be over classic Dungeons and Dragons topics, including rule sets over various editions, classic modules, campaign settings, lore, the history of the game, and even some classic Dungeons and Dragons based computer games. As I have little experience with 4e (since I hate it with a passion), the questions will probably be more focused on the first three editions, though I can try to put some 4e stuff in for those that play it, even though its out of my area of personal expertise. There will also be a DDO category with questions about adventure packs and DDO storyline topics for non PnP types.

I'm not a PnP player. Is there any reason for me to play?

Yes! Though PnP players will have an advantage in several categories, there will be purely DDO questions, general world lore questions for those who read d&d novels, and even questions for those who have a background playing older D&D computer games like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights. There are also mechanics which may allow you to play on grounds of your own choosing. While some will be advanced, others will be accessible even to those with a basic knowledge of the subjects involved. Additionally, everyone who participates will earn something, so there is no reason not to give it a shot!

Aside from that, happy anniversary D&D and DDO, and looking forward to seeing you all there!
I think that is an outstanding idea to support the 40th with classic D&D questions - good luck! Being a triva freak, I would love to see that on Khyber.

I might have to get try to free up that time to login Orien.

I would have happily done so, if someone had of called for volunteers/asked for help whatever (eg Cordovan posts he needs help to run the trivia in diff time zones), as i said i would have put my hand up.

I repsect everything Cordovan does for this game as well as many others, including those running the trivia branches, i was simply pointing out the unfairness to a large chunk of the player base, alas after the latest in game support cuts i am now convinced that turbine cares very little for it's players outside the peak US playtimes. In the last week players down under and those along our timezone have been eliminated from the 8th birthday trivia events and now we get no support during our peak play times, yeah really feeling the love atm.

The point here is YOU need to take the initiative. Cordovan said he would be happy to supply prizes for events in different timezones. YOU need to send the PM. YOU need to use your time and effort.

And thank you Guerric and Olathural for your multitudes of events and help to this server. It is appreciated. (So is your weirdness Ola. )

Yep, I realize you are not primarily upset with Cordo or us for not offering events at such times, but the deeper issue of not feeling supported by Turbine, esp. given the recent support cuts. While I understand that Turbine needs to look at server activity and make financial calls, I also understand that many of you in certain time zones are active, paying community members and can feel marginalized at times.

As you said, Cordovan is indeed really great though, and you can still do an event if you'd like. I'm guessing the reason you haven't is simply because its hard to know where to begin when you're first starting out. I was blessed to have Ola, who has done many events before, to help me in consulting about my first giveaway, but I can understand that it might be hard to know where to start, so I'm happy to help you in this regard.

What you really need to do is simply send a PM to Cordovan and tell him of your interest in running an event. When I first did my New Year's giveaway, I was surprised that I got a response almost immediately. I imagined that Cordovan was probably extremely busy and had lots of PMs, and as such was surprised how quick he was to respond, support, and appreciate my hosting of the event. Once you have the clearance and prizes, set a time and place and put up a thread like this one with the details. If you want to mirror my event, PM me and I will send you all 120 of the trivia questions I have been writing along with detailed instructions as to how to run the trivia game. I'd only ask that you schedule it after our event, so that the questions will be fresh for the large audience we hope to gather. If you would like to run it your way, then by all means do so! I am more than happy to give general guidance in crafting the event, and I'm sure Ola is as well. Don't lose heart! We can't fix the customer support problem, Cordovan and the rest of us are happy to guide you what support and encouragement we can.

thank you very much for easily one of the most helpful responses i have received on these forums. Unfortunately due to some personal happenings over the last 2 days i am probably too late to organise anything this time around but i will keep an eye out and try to do something for my fellow timezoners during future events and i may hunt you down for some advice on running it, that is if you don't mind

hm. it's 10 minutes after when the event was to begin. Or did I just somehow miss the lfm?
That's not lag, it's just DDO trying to become turn-based again.
