    Default UMD lag hitching

    Dear Turbine-

The time has come to where you must see about fixing the lag hitch whenever your UMD score changes via skill item or charisma modifer.

With the new epic destiny abilities that move your ability scores up and down depending on your current health, the frequency of these game hitches has gotten completely out of control.

It's really never been acceptable that we had to endure this...ever, but it has truly reached epidemic proportions, and is massively detrimental to the gameplay of everyone who has to go through it.

It needs fixing. I don't honestly care what the process is to go about it...you could even generate a lot of good will with your playerbase by making it so UMD'd equipment didn't de-equip when your score changed, thus removing the need to constantly recalculate it. That would be my first choice, but honestly anything that gets rid of the lag hitch will be acceptable.

Yea, can always tell when I've hit 49% health on my exalted angel. Not in a good way, sadly.

    Pretty annoying, and deadly....

I agree the UMD lag issue is terrible, and it does not just affect Skill and CHA items, if you possess a high UMD score, anytime you swap any item, there is tremendous lag, at times unsurvivable. To me this is also tied is with Buff lag, where when you take the death blow as your buffs peel off before death there is so much lag, that in that split second where you may have been able to save your self you just die, nothing you can do, and it makes it very difficult at times to have truly heroic play where you live on the edge.

We need to start these threads daily I think, just to get the message across.

Don't even start on disjunction traps and UMD...

Since this horrible lagged coding was added, it was never acceptable.

It's always forced me to ignore some of my best items like the powerdrain gloves as they generate far too much lag to enjoy there benefits.

Really the whole game is getting this kind of hitching tho, even melee attacks get it now after a while due to memory leaks..

They REALLY just need to buckle down and hire some top notch engineers to streamline and tighten up the code to fix and further avoid this hitching once and for all.

To them it may not seem like much, but its ultimately all the small things like this that can make a great game into a bad one.

I mean there are workarounds.. dont use umd, dont swap gear.. But they really wreck certain builds and playstyles.

On my fighter, it almost feels like just playing is laggy with a high UMD...and due to using the bunny hat, if I accidentally equip a scroll at the wrong time, I suddenly need my heal scroll.

    /signed one million times over.

Every one of my characters is built around UMD and almost every item swap impacts my CHA score.

Learned behaviour: Running up to attack a caster mob with some sort of displacement/blur effect on it.
    Resulting decision process:
    A) Mob is blurred: Run up and attack it without swapping any items and eat the 20% miss chance.
    B) Mob is displaced. Run in the opposite direction and hide. Swap off Conc Opp goggles for Tharne's. Endure 3 - 5 seconds of lockup. Run out of the corner hoping I'm still alive and attack displaced mob.

    That's kinda sad.

I agree. The UMD lag hitch is horrid.

Shade is right, swapping on the Vile Blasphemy creates a nice slide show for several seconds.

I don't know what causes the problems, but this is a significant annoyance in game play.

I must admit I have never experienced this lag on my rogue. I have heard about it in the past but even when looking for it, I didn't see it.

Even when equipping Cartouche and CHA item to cast a heal scroll, I can't say I have noticed lag. Maybe there is something that is borderline perceptible (like a tenth of second?) but it doesn't sound like people are talking about something so minor. So am I the only one unaffected? I play in small groups usually (2 or 3 other people) so is this something that only happens in Raid groups?

To be clear, I don't doubt that it is a significant effect for all of you, I would just like to know why I don't seem to see it so that I can avoid it getting this 'disease" in the future.
