    Default Kicking the hornets nest

When I was a kid, I spent summers in Washington State, we lived right across the street from Wildcat lake, one day I was running through the forest and kicked a hornets nest.

I will never forget that day, and still to this day have an irrational fear of flying stinging insects, especially hornets and yellow jackets.

Turbine, if you thought some of the melee characters were upset about insta killing, I guess you grossly underestimated the raw number of people who play this game just to play their casters. See in DnD, Casters are the pre-eminate class, people have very fond memories of their casters, and that day they could finally cast ultra powerful spells, and essentially became demi-gods in the process.

Back when Epic blocked insta killing altogether, your game attendance, opposition to epic questing, and prospects for the future all looked grim.

Guess what you just did Turbine, you kicked the hornets nest.

Welcome to your own little personal hell, it wont get any easier from here.

    My suggestion?

Change it back ASAP, and think about using creative AI, Death Ward casting mobs, etc to solve this "perceived" problem, at least then if a caster wants to try to sneak up to the cleric and insta kill it, he can, and then go on about his merry way.

Just some friendly advice from some one who has a pretty good pulse on the game.

    OMG the hyperbole...

    1. The amount of people that play casters because that's what they played in PnP is not that great.

    2. Those who do play casters because of the good old PnP days, probably wont be playing epic hard or elite, so they won't really mind the change.

    3. Being a one trick monkey is bad. Players with the least bit of skill (you know, those who will actually try hard or elite) will adapt. Even the most focused "OMG I don't need anything but Wail because it never fails" Pale Master will have some sort of strategy in store for orange and red named mobs. They will simply have to expand on that in order to adapt to the new change.

Clarification: I don't like the instakill nerf any more than anyone else (not the way it was implemented at least). I do however like even less the hyperbolic Dooooom.

I actually support getting rid of it and adding a very creative way of dealing with it. DW Casting mobs are always fun, as I usually try to pin out who casts what and try to immobilize them first.

That's fun for me. Not blanket immunities til 49% hp.

A bit of hyperbole yourself there though to be fair. Similar to what people chanted after the U9 spell pass.

I enjoy my PM and do use insta-kills frequently but I am far from a 1 trick pony. I'll hold or do damage as nessecery too. Utility is a big part of playing a wizard well.

Having said that, I am of mixed feelings with this update. I'm going to give it a day to sink in before I nail my flag to the pole.

I will say this though, blanket immunities of any sort have not worked well in the past. I do think having more DW casting mobs would be quite good, and a reason to carry dispel maybe. Either way I think turbine could of come up with a better solution.

OP, they won't change it back.... or at least I would be very surprised. They may well adjust it but I don't think they ever intended for insta-kills to have such an impact in epics quests when they made the previous changes.

Wow, you are completely out of your gord.

If you look at the hard to kill thread there are gangs of people showing up who almost never use the forums. I was not kidding, Turbine has really kicked the hornets nest, this is no joke, people will quit over this.

I am not some seer, I cannot see the future, and I personally am not going anywhere, but people will quit the game, straight up cancel, and never coming back.

As if Skyrim Online isn't going to be hard on us as it is.

But playing Melee characters for main caster types is a boring proposition, and there are whole groups of Wizard players who despise the sorcerer too. Not to mention that the main things Wizards do is versatility, and that is extremely hampered due to the gigantic lack of spell diversification in the game, and the relative weakness of summoned monsters, and variety of choices here as well.

And most people that i play with who also play Wizards are far from one trick ponies, personally they use everything at their disposal, from holds, buffs, and AOE. Yes death spells make a large part of what they are doing, but one trick pony is a sad description.

Either way, Wizard pop is going to shrink, and because of that, missions are going to be way harder, and as a result a lot of casual players will just bail out.

Hard core types like me will soldier on and adapt, but that said....I predict this gets changed soon, or Turbine will die via a million stings.

Nerfing casters just to please people playing toons by clicking and holding a mouse button? One of the most poorly conceived changes I have seen in the 2 years I have played this game. People playing melee toons are going to be staring at a lot of LFMs waiting on arcane and divine casters. Best to stock up on a lot of buff clickies and CSW pots.
