    Default Ok debate this.

You have an lfm up. Three other competent people you know join the group so you know your going to blow thru the quest with no problems. Someone else hits join. Do you my ddo him? If you do and he shows up as a gimp do you accept him. FYI I've yet to my ddo a person for a raid or a quest

You have the opportunity to let a gimp see what can be done in game with a competent party and teach him/her something. Do you think they will even notice or listen? Is it worth it to bring the person along or just run with the group you're in.

Let's assume this person is at the level to be in Gianthold.

My reaction for the last four years would be bring the guy along. If he's receptive to learning new things give him some decent gear and bring him on a few other quests and teach him some more stuff. Now days though it seems like it's not worth the time or effort. The 8 con ranger that won't stop drawing aggro and kiting doesn't seem to listen to anything and thinks he already knows it all.

So what are the rest of you doing these days? I'm on the verge of saying forget it it's not worth it. I'd rather solo duo whatever but not bring the gimp along because they won't listen anyway. Then every once in a while you find that gem in the rough that makes it worth it. Just that they seem to be few and far apart these days.

I have to say take them, if it doesn't work, squelch them (add them to "the list". I can honestly say that I would not be where I am today (with a LONG way to go) without a couple of people that were willing to take me and a couple of friends along on a VoN run.

Well, in my own defense the character I originally had has been stuck in lvl 12 limbo for a while and is no longer my main. However, you CAN always MyDDO Paladdium, he culd be more gimp than Jannddarr

I'll just bring them along with me, the more the merrier. The only time I myddo someone is if they are in a raid with me and keep dying in a couple of hits (did this to check out some fighters and a barb who kept dying during a Shroud) or keep running outta mana quickly (usually a cleric). I have on occasion used it to check out someone's gear, especially if they are just plain out blasting everyone on a upper level quest like out in Amrath.

If you use MyDDO for anything except raids, you have quite the issue. If you've already got enough capable people to do a quest. I don't really see a reason to accept someone. But experience is always the best teacher. I suggest you take the person along, don't MyDDO them, and play like you normally would. If they happen to do something you don't like, just /squelch and you'll never see them again.
In case you didn't already notice, my posts that end with must NEVER EVER, under any circumstances, be taken seriously.

It is like going to a museum and bragging about how fast you made it through. Or bragging about how fast you finished a good steak.

Even in most raids, it is not needed. In fact, they may pull loot that you would like and they don't need.

People do it for Kobold still. I saw a "quick Kobold" and clicked join on my FvS and after awhile I got the typical question "Can you heal as you have no evasion"? I figured their probably were checking MyDDO before asking me that question.

I ignored them, solo'd normal, then put up an LFM to allow people to join for free at the end.

If they are leader, they can make whatever groups they want ("even though I am doing an easy dungeon that I can solo, I only want casters to buff me"). But, we will still make fun of them.
Oh, that's easy. I didn't farm them. I just cheated. -Meghan

Dealing with stubburness is a toss up.

Almost everytime I try and explain to someone that HEavy fort is a requirement and Con is NOT a dump stat, all I receive back are loud insults or extream defenciveness.

Somepeople would rather get angry at you then take clear, concise, helpful advise.

I've had similar experiences except that when I tell a Con 8 rogue that they need CON, they tend to harbor some sort of deep mistrust towards me. Their replies from then on would give you the feeling that you're trying to rob them of something highly valuable.

Bring 'em along. If they are a good player, then you found yourself a new friend. If not, well at least you have some comic relief.

This. I will say, leveling up a new cleric, i do tend to pay attention to who's in the group a bit more than i have in the past, but i'm not the group leader ever. But i will say, the almost train wrecks, the one person that just is the absolute definition of "noob", to coin a phrase, I get an unusual amount of pleasure watching on my side of the screen. Well, could be cause i stop healing and try to get them killed, but thats another thread

MyDDO? Once a while I go there to look at peoples gear when they mention it and maybe see how they dressed around such to fit it in. I never look when filling groups ... even in raid, I just attempt to adjust seeing who is managing what.

Shall something be drastically off, like a level 17 wizard not making DC in shroud to clear mob, or a melee who loses 1/3 hp from one mob's swing, I wonder and after complete sometimes and may check shall I know these people were trying their best to fit in. In those cases, Rosewood (usually not involved) may sometimes anonymously send such people things in the post to help alliviate such issues provided I have something laying around or she funded to do such, as usually such being off is also componded by lack of gear.

Previous to MyDdo.com, this wouldnt have been a question. I remember you telling me that part of the reason you play/ed was for the very reason above. There's no half way with this. Either you do, or things have changed.

While i understand it might be simply more aggravating due to sheer numbers, I dont believe what i quoted changes. There are some that aren't worth helping, noobs as you've called them. But the others, the newbs, benefit from your help. If you think its bad now, what happens if we just stop helping the folks that really want to learn/listen/play....just because others before ruined it for them.

What if oh so long ago, for whatever reason, we never helped each other, or the many friends youve found along the way didnt look right in MyDdo...what would have happened then?

MyDdo is a guideline. When you start using it for every person, you lose something i think. We did just fine before Myddo came along and granted the numbers are bigger now, but we'd do just fine now if we never had it.

    Fwiw,
