    Default new to DDO

Hi name's Pat, from Boca Raton, FL...
I just became a VIP member and am new to DDO, however what little i played has sparked interest, and i want to continue. My characters name is Jedsea, and right now i'm a lv1 elf paladin on khyber, however i will be starting over after purchasing a 32 point build. what would be a good dps class and starting build, i'm going to use the customizable option?

i know there are the forums, and i've tried to look but can't seem to find the build i am looking for. most seem to by a hybrid of three different builds

I'm interested not only to getting into a helpful leveling guild, if not now, then whenever i can.
I'm trying to figure out what class i want to play. I was thinking of a elf ranger tempest, but now that i can play other classes that weren't open to me, such as a monk.....i'm not asking for someone to play the game for me just provide assistance for the complex aspects of the game that i've heard so much of from a friend on this server.

my only experience in mmo's is a little bit of lotro, which i play as a lv24 warden on vilya server-friends of frodo-selenne

and wow, which i have a lv80 blood elf warlock named jedsea on dark iron server

    i'll be on around 2:30-3am eastern; work 12:30-12:30 thursday-saturday, and 6:30-12:30 wednesday

    Default Hi Welcome

Welcome to the game Pat. I happen to be a Florida girl myself, and have enjoyed this game for close to 4 years now. I would suggest that you get to know the game before you try to get into different builds. Tempest Ranger is a good class if you can build it right. I would suggest that you try different builds before settling on one particular build. I sometimes go through 3-4 rerolls before I will settle into a build, not because I can't make up my mind, but because it doesn't fit my ideal, so don't be afraid to scrap a build if it doesn't work for you. I would also suggest trying out a healer class as well, most don't and thus don't realize what healers go thru sometimes. PUG often and most of all, have fun. Expect a couple of care packages in your mailbox from some very nice people on this server.

And many of us tend to keep some track of general, advice, and trade channels, so if you have any questions while in game, feel free to ask

    Saal

P.S. Most guilds will expect you to have some sort of cleric/bard/favored soul in the works to join, especially the larger ones, but there are some who will be glad to help you out while you are learning the ropes. Just ask around in-game and check the guild forum

    Default nice to meet you

thx for the reply, and you'll be seeing me online, just look for jedsea, whatever class/race that'll be the name i use.
i'm kind of tired of wow(stay with it because i'm in a guild with real out of wow friends that i don't get a chance to speak to much outside of WOW) right now, will play enough to buy tier10 items; by using the auto heroic dungeon option; to raid, plus do a little lotro, because the kindship rocks, but this game will consume me for a while.

my friend told me i was playing wrong...i used two short swords; i guess i missed the great long sword that i could've gotten on a quest. aparently paladins get a negative score for using two weapons w/o the feat. i was using it because i was having problems protecting the cystal on normal so i switched to solo, then still died with only two left to kill. when i used two swords against cystal and under the tavern quest, i had easy time killing. i guess i was trying whatever worked, you know trial and error

the elf paladin is just auto created, not customized and i have 3 action points that i need to learn to use at paladin trainer.

my friend told me about how this game with its fighting system, being able to dodge attacks, which other mmo's don't do and the dungeons being so beautifully designed has made DDO the game, for now at least.....

new blood for zeh sacrificial offering
welcome to khyber, post in the guild forum should you wish to look for one suitable for yourself, but make sure to put some info about yourself in the post
as for choosing builds, i'd suggest playing each class pure before you decide what kind of role you would prefer to play
    other than that, good luck
be warned though, should you choose to use voice chat as your main method of communication, there will be "followers" of sorts
PS: Greensteel RUINED the game! and you all know it!
    less buffing, more nerfing!!!
to make it easier for those of you that wants to avoid me in game, all my characters are in "Bladesworn Mercenaries"

    Cool Welcome

Welcome to DDO and more importantly, to the Khyber server.

There are plenty of helpful guilds on Khyber, just have to find one or get an invite to one. I'd be happy to invite you to a great, helpful guild.

Most paladins, unless built properly, will not use TWF (Two-Weapon Fighting). More common paladin build involve sword & board or a good two-handed weapon. Its a good class to start the game with as you can both fight and take care of yourself. Clerics can do the same at low-levels and around mid-level decide whether they are going to be a heal-bot or a battle-cleric.

Good luck in your gaming and PM me if you're interested in a guild.
*KHYBER* Yazool, Durrgin (Dwarf, Clr), Xarissa (Drow, Wiz), Reinei (Hafling, Monk), Cavatina (Human, FvS), Jinglethis Punk'Ass (Halfling, Bard/Fighter), Rahtchet (WF, Art)

    check your mail for Jedsea

Also you may wish to join our custom help channel. It has the advantage of being serverwide instead or just the zone you are in.

    type:

    /joinchannel help

then preface your messages with /1

    example:

    /1 Who is Fred?

    Welcome to Khyber

Hehe, that's why I have 4 clerics and a FvS healer build(or maybe I just like healing alot or I'm a glutton for punishment, lol) Although I do get to run my other characters as well often.

I can attest to Saal rerolling alot! I just stay with my gimps so she feels challenged healing me...

You also should try practicing as a healer and let the group know you are new to it.
Once you learn how hard it is to try to keep a group healed up, it can make you appreciate it and not just run off and agro stuff.
Oh, that's easy. I didn't farm them. I just cheated. -Meghan
