    Default The Mobster

    The Mobster

By request, I give you the Mobster build.

The Mobster is always a Tempest I but can be a Kensai II or Stalwart Defender II. Depending on the raid and the role I will play, I actually switch back and forth. I typically stay with the Defender enhancement most of the time as when things go wrong, buttoning up with a high 70’s/low 80’s AC with a tank who can evade, raise dead, and no-fail heal scroll, is game breaker and the reduced DPS is manageable. If you can put on a pair of Mineral 2 Kopeshes – you are golden. In Kensai mode, you are hitting massive DPS numbers short of just the Max DPS builds.

The Mobster is not Max DPS. The Mobster is not Max AC. The Mobster is not a Trap Monkey. The Mobster is not Max Intim or UMD. The Mobster is not the best at any one thing, but is simply great at nearly everything. It is simply the most fun build I have ever played.

The Mobster has lots of combat feats with the levels of fighter. The Mobster can be any race. I chose Human for that extra feat, but more importantly the extra skill point per level and the human adaptability and human skills clickies are critical to the decent Rogue and UMD skills.

EDIT: The one weakness of this build was tanking Hortoth with only 507 hps. One blow and then the 500 point disintegrate could screw up the raid quickly. Have TR'd into a dwarf (thought seriously about WF buf then you can't use ICY and I have two other TR'd WF so stuck with Dwarf. Expect to finish just over 600 Hps which makes Horoth much more manageable)

Edit #2 - Testing the Mobster with 18/2 Ftr/Rog in my TR now (just 15 ATM) but thinking the Tempest really isn't all that after the U5 Nerf to TWF speeds.

    The Mobster – Level 20 (12 Ftr / 6 Rgr / 2 Rog)

    Start -- Lvl 20
    Str 16 -- 38 (+5 Lvl +2 Rams +3 DefII +1 Human +3 Ftr +2 tome +6 item)
    Dex 15 -- 24 (+2 tome +6 item +1 Ranger)
    Con 14 -- 26 (+2 tome +6 item +3 DefII +1 Human)
    Int 12 -- 20 (+2 tome +6 item) (+2 tome at Lvl 1)
    Wis 8 -- 10 (+2 tome)
    Cha 12 -- 20 (+2 tome +6 item)

    HPS: 507
Intim: 61 (66 with Human clicky)
UMD: 41 (46 with Human clicky)
    Search: 48 (53 with Clicky)
    Balance: 40

    Saves
    Fort: 29
    Reflex: 30
    Will: 23

    BAB: 19

FEATS: (not in order of taking… can’t remember)
    Dodge
Two Weapon Fighting – Free ranger
    Mobility
    Favored Enemy – Elementals
    Die Hard – Free Ranger
    Spring Attack
    Toughness
    Kopesh
    Many Shot – Free Ranger
    Favored Enemy – Evil Outsiders
    Greater Two Weapon Fighting

    Combat Expertise
    Power Attack
    Bull Headed

    10 base
10 armor (mith breast of destruction)
7 dex (with ftr armor mast II and ftr tower mast II plus Defender bonus)
    9 Mith Tower shield
    1 Alchemical Armor Ritual
    1 Alchemical Shield Ritual
    5 nat(bark)
    5 Prot
    1 Dodge feat

2 Stalwart Defender II AC Bonus
3 Stalwart Defender II +3 Dodge Stance Bonus
    4 Blocking Armor Bonus
    4 Bard
    1 Haste
    5 Fighter Armor Clicky
91 AC (take off the clicky and pali aura for a normal blocking 81)

AC 52 with Two Weapon Fighting

    Edit:
I am not a big build posting guy, so I didn't list all the progressions and feats and skills by level. My Mobster is one of only two toons I have ever built (and I have built many many) that I have no desire to change anything except AP's (swithch back and forth between Kensai and Defender). Here is the progresion I used.

    I went:
    1 Rog
    2-7 Rgr
8 Ftr (to get feats needed for Tempest)
    9 Rog
    11-20 Ftr

Your are a bit feat starved early and could easily take a few fighters in 2-7 and delay Tempest, but I love the Tempest attack bonus enough I focused on it first. At all levels this was a DPS killer, the AC really doesn't kick in until you start to gear up late in the game.

Edit - (I'm sure there are similar builds posted - this is just the summary of my rapunzel build on Ghallanda - by far the most fun I have ever had with a build)

Why 12 charisma? Why not put an extra point into str? I'll try to charplan this later.

What levels per class, and what enhancements do you have?

Looks like a very awesome build. Although I wouldn't go insofar as saying no-fail heal scrolls. I get what your saying in that the UMD will be high enough to cast without failure - but during melee, that same statement will not hold true, more of a retreat and heal situation instead.

while I do have +2 int no-min lvls banked which may be eaten at level one... I would assume such things will eventually dry up for most players, Thus many will be 6 skill points off. - Not really a big deal.

To me it looks like Force of personality (suppliment wisdom for will) and umd (2 points) was the idea... I was comptemplating somthing similar in a pally 12/ranger 6/rogue 2 ... kotc II/tempest I evasion build, I rolled at level 1 yet have taken off the ground... kensai had crossed my mind also so then bloody now seeing this the wheels are churning yet again.

I started out thinking about Pali 12/6 rgr/2 rog and quickly realized the Pali doesn't have nearly enough feats to get everything you want. Ftr was the way to go with all those extra feats. Again, this build wan't meant to absolute max DPS, but he puts out so much DPS in both Amrath and the Shroud that he is a highly requested toon, even in Defender state. I have tanked every quest in Amrath and the intim/AC mode is dang near untouchable.

I could have gone 17 str for 3 stat points or 12 cha and 12 int (rather than 10 cha and 11 int) - it's a much better use of 3 points IMO.

The CHA is key. UMD, Intim, and Will save all depend on it.

If you want STR and massive DPS (someone with more time than me can do the DPS math), go into Kensia mode.

Str - 33 (current base without defender) +4 tome + triple rage + Kensai power surge = 50 Str

Using the Min2 Kops with Tempest 10 % bonus, GTWF, and all the Kensai and focus /specialization damage bonuses, I average about 75 a swing and crit 17-20 for nearly 200.

Heck, in Defender mode with the 38 Str and with Tempest 10 % bonus, GTWF, and all the focus / fspecialization damage bonuses, I average about 60 a swing and crit 17-20 for nearly 160.

The Mobster simply does everything in one package.

Based on some other builds I see here, I am guessing class progression is first 2 levels rogue, next 6 levels ranger and then the rest fighter?

Also, you talk about using two kops, but you list the Improved Crit Piercing but everything else is focused on slashing. Why the piercing?

Rob - I edited to add the level progression I used above.

On the Imp Crit - Pierce, most of us by lvl 20 have a few banishers or smiters laying around. Mine are rapiers and short swords. Impr Crit - Pierce makes leveling and running in the Gianthold, the Necro, and the Vale much easier with the right equipment.

You could easily sub another feat - maybe another toughness - here for a different benefit. One thing the Mobster has in spades is feats!

    Default Nice build Red

The 12/6/2 is a canvas that a build artist can craft to fit his play style, quest needs, and fufill the vision the artist has for thier build.

    Default youv'e been trolled!!!

So what you meant to say about the very hopeful AC there is.

That it is really possible to get 64 without external buffs - so non raid buffed in other words. And with all of the proper gear. As if getting chattering ring and min 2 kop are easy to come by, we all know that takes a **** load of work, so i would say playing on crack it would take at least 2 weeks to acquire just that.

So with out those you are really looking at 57.

Personally i think you be better off just going 18 fighter, or 18 paladin in this AC/evasion concept, you would achieve a much higher AC without outside help, personally i like pally better for the save boost.

Your idea has much more synergy with Kensai in my opinion and you can still get a pretty good AC.

And why is it the Mobster????? Like mobsters are tough or something? Lame name, choose a new one.

    Time to re-roll this!!

It is smart character building. He will be making use of charisma based skills, and if he used his cha points in str, he would loose 3 points in cha for 1 point in str. Not worth it.

**** trolls are infesting everything these days! Gotta buy a new can of TROLL AWAY!

Until you get the gear, you run in DPS God-Mode! Once you get the gear, swap and do anything you want with one charachter. Think of the savings in Teir 3 items when you can do everything with one guy!

    Default Dear Red,

Did ya happen to notice on of Irivan's altz is a 8rgr/6pally/5 ftr? I would like to see the build and the concept behind this.
8rgr for tempest, bark, camo - 2 dex inp - Twf and the Oh so lovely rams might
6 Pally for saves - lay on hands - smites- 2cha -Hunter of the dead, for turning?
Assuming 6 ftr for kensai 1 - 2 str - HsateII -Arm master II - Crit confirm etc.

Could be decent. Throw up the build break down for us PLEASE.

I'm loving this build so far at level 16 (8 ftr/6 rgr/2 rog). Being my first multiclass I probably screwed up a few things (like not taking rogue first level and not having the best tomes/gear) but all-in-all I'm really happy with this character so far. I can dps, non-raid tank, search, intim, disable traps and locks, raise dead, whip all sorts of wands and it's really fun to play.

Any thoughts on where the extra points should go from reincarnating?

aside from the extra pts starting as a rogue, I was wondering what the practical differences were between 2 rogue and 2 monk?

I have played this build at low lvl up to 6 and its been a lot of fun, I was wondering if you could advise where is a good place to farm for +2 tomes would be, as it will need +2 dex for lvl 9 I think it is, for itwf.

I do have other toons that are higher, but have not got to end game yet, not in a rush, as I have lots of content to see first, so could park it until I have the tome.

One more question, I have not played a ranger before, and was told after querying the advice channel that a 14 wis was required by a ranger to be able to cast spells, how are you achieving this, if what I was told is correct?

Final note, though Im having fun with the build, since I have only been playing a few months, would it be better advised to try another tank type build that is less tome intensive( wish I had started it a few weeks ago when +2 tomes were available at the shop, as I probably would have got it since this has been such a fun build )

have other questions, but will leave it at that, otherwise this will turn into an essay

    Cheers for posting the build

You can do that with an item.

Yep, I was curious how the op was acheiving that, I assume a +2 tome, and a +4 item, or a combination of tomes and items giving a total of +6.

Just that he had not noted such, most likely just missed when writing this thread.

A ranger requires 14 wis to cast 4th level spells, which this build doesn't have access to. You need a 11 wisdom to cast 1st level spells, which is all this build has access to. Also you're likely to be wearing a wisdom item if only for the will saves, and a +3 item isn't had to find.
