Thread: "I Hate Pugs"

    Default "I Hate Pugs"

Last night a guildie and I pugged out a lowbie (8-11) Von Flagging Run on Kyber. Our group included a two new(er) players and four players with varying levels of more experience. My guildie and I agreed we were a little under powered but other than the Beholders in VoN3 this group could make it through.

VoN 1 went pretty well, VoN 2 saw one slight problem, but again went fairly smoothly.

VoN 3 was another story, nothing worked right and as people got a little more frustrated people didn't want to follow instructions more zergging occurred and finally we ran into the beholders. I'll just say it was a long night.

All throughout this I have another friend ribbing me about my dislike of pugging VoN, VoN2 and VoN3 are two of my least favorite adventures to pug because if the adventure goes south it goes way south in hurry. VoN3 was definitely that way last night; it had gone to the South Pole and burrowed in. After a party wipe, while sitting dead, I received a tell from my friend "Still hate pugs"; to which I replied "Yes I hate Pugs" with a /p instead of /r.

I feel bad and am sorry about the mis-tell. I tried to apologize twice last night but still feel bad today. My issue wasn’t the group or anyone in the group in general just an unforgiving adventure which still plays havoc with pugs. To be honest it is one of the reasons I don’t mind reflagging for the dragon because even with level 14s the quest can go south and make a simple six minute run into an hour long hurting. Here in a lowbie group they got caught in the cross fire, we were all frustrated, and my timing couldn’t be worse.

To the party’s credit after my outburst we knuckled down and completed the quest. And I am thankful for that. The highlight for me was when I went to get the Inevitable; hedecided not to come out of his room, twice; kind of like “You Guys have been through enough just come kill me now” and our fight with him was the smoothest and simplest fight I have seen with him in a while.

Again my apologizes to the four who suffered my outburst and thanks for seeing us through to the end.

Probably the same people I was trying to get through it with the day before. They fell off in VoN 2 4 Times. I decided it was time to cut my losses and left. I'll solo von 2 on my little lvl 11 next time , lol.

slip ups are often with me. i've wanted to tell guildies a certain guy sux but i /p instead of /g. that player left immediately. unlike you i did not attempt to rectify the problem as his attitude was just as bad. we were in invaders and the casters were taking the run using fod and pk. at the areas with beholders, we'll slow down so they can enlarge kill them. within 2 runs, that player charged 4 sets of beholders (3 at the bridge and the 4 in the other tunnel). it led to much carnage and each time he ran unscathe by either jumping into the water or hiding behind pillars.

back to OP. pugs are not that bad. when i'm on a lowbie, i'd usually ask if anyone is new to the game then offer help. this opens the new players up. many are afraid to admit they are new as they do not like to feel "inferior" but by offering you help first, you allow them to be able to set their "ego" aside. i usually get alot of questions these way. most of them in the area of "what do i need to do in this quest". that is not the end yet. we must be willing to answer their questions, else they clam up again. sometimes, when a player (especially a casting type) ask how to play their char better, i'd even use 10-20 mins of my time, bring them to an outdoor area and show them tricks of the trade.

to all, new players are only as good as their knowledge is. they do not learn much if no one teaches.

Was in a catacombs elite group and a cleric joined and he must have been 6 years old. He would not stop talking on voice chat. It got so bad that most of the group told him to shut up. He wouldn't listen. I ended up dropping group because of the little kid. Unlike most people I don't have a lot of patience for little kids.

Pugs aren't bad so long as it a bunch of Vets in group. I don't mind teaching a new player as long as they're are willing to listen. It kills me when I ask a question, explain a tactic, or request a spell/ability to be cast/used and get no responce.

I enjoy Pugs that all have mics. You get a sense of the type of person they are when you here voice.

Had a PoS last night in group around 3am. Was trying for RoF from STK. One dude died so we held on grabbing Seal till dude got back in. Well the PoS had no patience so he grabs Seal and Quits real fast. CKSKR.

Had alot of fun with the other cats though

Had a similar experience doing a TR run a week or so ago. Compounded though. We had a little kid join. He said he was 8 1/2, and he was a yammerer. As taxing as that was, we also had the group cleric dorking with the kid. The kid would ask a question and this cleric would tell him he could get to X by hitting alt-f4. Stuff like that.

The cleric ended up dropping after being told to cut it the hell out about 40 times. Then the kid said something about about food and stopped moving in the middle of of the leg. We ended up breaking and reforming with the other 4, refilling and having quite the good run

As much as I complain about it, I like Pugging with the newer people, they are more apt to listen, since it is a new quest and all, and realize that someone else is gonna be more experienced than them.

Contrary to the topic, I hate pugs full of 'veteran' players more than anything. Then it just turns into a 'My ***** is waaaay bigger than your *****, and I'm gonna show it to you by being all cool and soloing this part, doing it my way before you even have a chance to show up.' fest.

heh was in tbf. i agroed the 1st 2 trolls and killed them. just as i killed one, another player came in. after we got the 2nd he asked for buffs which i said i'll do when the rest of the group is in. the reply from me just irked me "this coming from the person who agro-ed 2 trolls". as this point, i just buffed myself up and ran ahead of the group.

to that player, the 1st 2 trolls were isolated and i was just toying with them. when a wiz is running abt, it does not necessarily mean we are trouble. i need no one to help me with tbf, i just like to do it in a group so we can have fun. if you want, i can take out the fun for ya.

on topic, Azoralq, i do alot of my "------ is bigger of your ------" but only with friends. we do it all the time to poke fun at each other. just like yesterday, i was having a loot run with a caster buddy of mine. he was complaining that he pulled zilch and i poke him when i pulled a wounding puncturing bow. to which he replied "hey its only a SHORTBOW, let me dig out my rapier" lol. we wernt offended but having a great deal of fun.

Don't hate the players, hate the whiners!

Seriously, I was tired of running the same zergs (exploits?) that I went back to other characters and had fun doing low level content. I was mainly doing pugs, which made it a better challenge and not the same, boring walking into a quest as the person was waiting to kill the last monster after soling all content. It made it more fun / random. The only problem I really have is the people who would rather take 10 minutes to get a quest going (hate when someone puts up the LFM, finally fills it then goes AFK - but not just PUGs do that).

    Variety is spice of life....

    Hrm..

Swtich your style up and if they hate...let em' hate.

It's your $15, it's their $15...play how you want to play...be good, get good...or quit.

I've been in some crazy circumstances in PuG's

everything from "where's the marketplace...I have to pay? [drop group]" to a 14th level caster not knowing what Firewall was.

You can't expect everyone to know everything.

I've capped 5 toons, yet I just recently started doing the Titan raid with Dimz and Co. (2 months now, and I still have no clue about the green side)

Basically you have to give yourself a limit. When I'm on my lowbies, I have no issues helping out people, accepting newbies to "my group" or taking it slow so people can enjoy the quest.

When I'm on my capped toons, same thing...I dont need the XP at the moment...so let's mess around for a bit.

Those mid-level to higher level toons that are still getting XP? I prefer that you know what you are doing and if you don't...By the Sovereign Host please say something so we know.

We are all striving to get capped, I don't care what your philosophy is. It's the pinnacle of our game and you want to be the best at what you do.

We were all new at one time, and some times games like this come more "naturally" to others. Patience is the key, but like I said before...set yourself to a limit. Don't expect to much and don't be all snotty about it with them. We need PuG's just as much as we need Guilds in this game, sometimes you learn more from a PuG then you do your own guild...
