Too bad about the tactical feats nerf, it was nice having actually being able to trip and sunder. I suppose we can't complain too much, we all knew this was coming. Guess it's time to take it back off the hotbar and use that spot for something that actually works.

In other news, something changed so I can't use pylotro to start the game. I can still use the Turbine launcher, but I now have to wait while it tries to install the 2005 C++ runtimes *EVERY SINGLE TIME*. (Yeah, yeah, I know... most of you don't have that problem. Well I do, so knock it off.)

Still no way to toggle off the chumps, I see.

Oh well, at least those things everybody was enjoying are now working properly, so we can have less fun, right?

Yup. That makes it completely broken for Linux users. Wish the changelogs were actually complete so there could be some glimmer of hope on where to start tracking this down.

    Unhappy

The client tries to update downloading the "dndclient.exe" (7779656 bytes) but the update progress shows at around 65%

    An update error occurred:
    Unknown error: 0xffffffff80043012

Happened with the updating process 2 weeks ago. Took around 4 hours until it "somehow" magically found a way to update the said exe.

But I guess no dev will read this post or a ticket anyway..

    Cheers!

An unlisted change that was apparently included in this hotfix, is that the format for the login and server-selection data has changed, to match what was done to Lord of the Rings Online a few months ago.

So, for those of us who still use Pylotro, that'll need some work too. Fortunately the LotRO community already figured it out.

I'm back in game with nwestfal's updated version, from https://github.com/nwestfal/pylotro ... yes, that's in source form, but at least it should help Linux users that way already. (Who was it again that had build the old Windows Pylotro packages?)

Well... let's see... it would be preferable to have someone test things on Windows or maybe even build a package to minimize the risk of error, which is considerable here (and no warranty whatsoever! I don't actually know what'll happen) but...

I cannot usefully test anything Windows-specific on Linux, obivously, but I'd think installing unpackaged Pylotro might go something like... here goes...

    1) You need to have Python installed. Your old Pylotro package install will necessarily have come with it, but I'm not sure if it'd make sense to keep that.
So, I'd go and remove the old Pylotro, and install Python. https://www.python.org/downloads/ ... Pylotro recommends 3.2+ but I'm on 2.7 and it works fine for me.
2.7.(9+) and 3.4+ at least should come with "pip" and "setuptools", otherwise you'll need to get those separately, you'll probably need them.

    2) Download the prerequisite package(s). Only PyQT4 is listed as absolutely required, http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/#pyqt4
    - choose version corresponding to what you have from step 1.

    3) Get a command prompt with Python in your path. Assuming you installed Python in "C:\Python27\", this is done by starting a command prompt (cmd.exe) and running command "set path=%path%;C:\Python27\" - change to match what you did earlier.

You should now have Python installed, and "python" and "pip" commands available from your command prompt window, if I got this right.

    4) Run "pip install PyQt4?whatever-you-downloaded.whl" - assuming that is successful, you should then have PyQT4 to go with your Python.

    5) Get the Pylotro source, direct link would seem to be https://github.com/nwestfal/pylotro/archive/master.zip , and unzip it in a suitable place locally.

    6) Using the Python-augmented command prompt, go to wherever your unzipped Pylotro content is, and run "python setup.py install".

On Linux, I only needed to do parts 5 and 6, and that latter command produced the "pylotro" executable. Now, never having tried, I'm not at all sure what actually happens on Windows, but you should either get a "pylotro" command available to your command prompt, or maybe even a proper Windows-type graphical launcher in your menu somewhere.

Angry This is terrible treatment of your customers

OK, Turbine, this isn't a "Hot Fix", this is a major revision, and needs to go to Lamania for a while to give people a chance to figure it out. And you need to help them.

A change this big made in the way this was made is horrible customer service, and there is no excuse for it.

When you lock out a segment of your population, you aren't just losing them, you are losing the people who run with them. And you build serious resentment.

And it would have been so easy to avoid, if you'd only cared :-(

PyLotRO is a third party tool, not made by Turbine, and it's not Turbine's responsibility to support it.

I understand and sympathize with the fact that you are temporarily broken, but don't complain to Turbine.

Thank you for finding the updated pylotro, I spent my lunch break trying to fix it.

For Linux step 6 should probably sudo ./setup.py install just to make the install smoother.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but the double nerf of tactical feats seems a bit broken in its own right.

Having stats do double their effect was clearly broken and had to be nerfed fine BUT why on Ebberon remove the Level component?

And how on Ebberon is Trip/Sunder etc. supposed to work in Epics {or even High level Heroics} now?

    Thumbs down

    • Tactical feats no longer add a character's level to its DC.
    • Tactical feats no longer add double their ability score modifier to their initial Saving Throw.

Thanks for taking what was a useful ability and making it the most pointless button in the game. Since the patch I can't even trip a one-legged rabbit that is half dead from myxomatosis.

    Ten Thumbs Down.

Maybe, but the official launcher is broken for many...Between the 'can't connect to patch servers', the forever 'downloading prerequisistes', the 'always downloading 10 splash screens in 3 languages', the always downloading 'Visual c++ whatever' ( and variations/combinations thereof )... And I'm not even talking of the "Akamai Netsession" spyware issue. Or all the players that play on MAC/Linux and can't use the normal launcher.

So for a good number of players the Official launcher is not an option if they want to play the game.
This kind of changes should at least be put on Lamannia for a few week so that we have time to update the alternate tools, and not sneaked in a patch ( and not even mentioned in the Release Notes ) on a friday.

Edit: It seems that I have found the fixed version for Windows, thanks to French LoTRO players :

    http://tiers-age.leforum.eu/t530-Pyl...ais-rapide.htm

    Direct link : http://lotro.fosconetwork.org/scripts/PyLotRO.zip

I renamed my PyLOTRO directory to PyLOTRO-old, uncompressed the zip file to replace the directory, and that's it.

I had this problem, I solved it by going to DDO folder, then further into 3rdparty-folder and running those runtime-installers manually, after that, no more of that problem.
