Default Get into DDO Unlimited Early! Head Start begins on September 1st.

Open to current and former subscribers as well as recent participants in the closed beta, the Dungeons & Dragons Online®: Eberron Unlimited™ Head Start begins 09/01/09. Players who join us for this event get exclusive access to play early. The head start allows all participants to fully experience the new game content and features before the general public is admitted on 09/09/09. Reserve your character names, play the new content first, or simply get a jump on trying out the latest game features. It all begins on September 1st!

NOTE: The head start will happen on the live game servers. Currently active players will be able to patch up and start playing on the 1st. Beta players who did not previously play on the live service will need to download and install the live game client prior to playing, and will log into the live servers using their beta logins, which will be converted to live accounts on 09/01/09. The Beta (Lamannia) game software will not work. To download the high resolution version of the live Stormreach client, click here. For standard resolution, click here.

Is there some way you can inform us of the estimated size of the patch, in MB? I have daily download limitations with my ISP.

Hmmm, why does it say it's mod8 installation? And this doesn't look like the new TDM too....
    I won't live another screw-up
Edit: 'reserve character names'. Does this mean these will be brand new 'clean' servers, where our existing toons will be transferred 23:59 on Aug 31st?

On what day & time can we start downloading the update? Can I install prior to Sept 1st or do I need to install at midnight on Sept 1st.

"Reserve your character names, play the new content first, or simply get a jump on trying out the latest game features."

As worded this sort of scared me at first as thought about wipes, etc... but that isn't the plan (right)... so why would anyone not have already reserved their names? Did I miss something here?

The download link Tarrant provided is for the live client, which is currently Mod 8. On launch day you will patch up to the new version. TDM is not currently released for DDO on the live servers.

This answers a lot of conflicting answers from players, some things I'm having problems finding answers too, I understand the conversion of the Trial to F2P, That was never a question, but I'd rather use my account I played the beta on, and it looks like that will happen now too. Here's the problem, I've got an old Trial account from 2007 on the same account as my beta, I had planned to pay for VIP around the 28th or 29th of Aug. The only upgrade options on that account are for the old trial, so If I connect on Sept 1st do the MOD9 update, will I then get the option to upgrade the same account I used for beta, or just the Trial? I guess either of those would be fine, I had to make a new account for the new trial, and I'd rather not upgrade that account to VIP :S

Technically speaking, if you're in head start, you can download the Stormreach game client now (it just won't let you log in yet if you're a free/premium player) using the links Tarrant provided. Then the day of head start, it will begin patching up the remainder of the DDO Unlimited data, and you'll be able to log in with your login information at that time.

    Re: patch size -
Off-hand I'm not sure the size of the patch data but I'll see if I can find out.

Question 1: Will you have a predownload patch available of Mod 9 prior to Sept 1? (as has been done for previous mods)?

Question 2: Any thoughts on "not-deleting" but renaming all database characters unsubbed/unused by more than 2 years (and giving them a renaming sigil) in order to free up name space? Maybe a month after release in order to give those old accounts a chance to join F2P DDO.

Ed Added: Question 3: Can you make sure to have a Mod9-Install fully downloaded file available at launch for us to USB-key give to friends we'd like to sign up?

Unless this has recently changed, DDO:EU is a patch to the existing game rather than a from-the-ground-up recoding of the game. That's why the link is to mod8.

As to reserving names, hopefully everyone at this point understands that the beta server is entirely separate from the real game. If you are currently a paid subscriber to DDO, you keep everything you have on the non-beta servers including all of the character names you're currently using. If all you've done is participate in the beta, then you have nothing on the non-beta servers including character names and hence have the opportunity to reserve them on 9/1 by creating characters.

    Default Re-Install from Disc

Just re-installing from discs, and patching hope it works. Thought it might save some bandwidth/ time. I guess I must nuke the old Lamannia install. Seems like the install notes said to uninstall my Stormreach install so I did.

    Sooooo....
If I just have the same mod8 client, it will just patch itself for the new mod? Then there's no need to download the client early. Or I'm missing something.

Ok, so for folks like me that just want to click one thing.. at some specific time...

by "if you're in head start" do you mean if I have an active account, such as mine since last year, then I am in head start? So we should use the link above you provided and update now.. so later it updates itself? Or if I have been active since last year, updated at MOD8 do.. I even need to click anything? The references in this thread to the link being MOD8 but your statement of downloading now are confusing me..

You can install the current live client and updade to the most recent patch prior to September 1st, but the Mod 9/DDO Unlimited update will not be released until the day of September 1st.

So as far as I understand, there are three accounts we're talking about. An old trail, your beta, and a new trial.

On September 1st, your beta account (wiped clean of anything from beta except Turbine points you bought) will be active, and then on the 9th your old and current trials will become active. If you want to upgrade to VIP on the 28th/29th you can do that on one of your trial accounts, be eligible for September 1st, and have any Turbine points from your beta account moved to your VIP account. Alternatively, like you mentioned, you can upgrade your beta account to VIP on the 1st and keep everything there.

Reinstalling from the discs will work fine, though if you have a current Stormreach client there's no need to do that as it will update automatically. You also don't need to remove the Lamannia install, as we'll be opening that server up again for future tests.

Correct! It'll patch just like it has with any other mod. Nothing for you to worry about.

You're in the head start and you don't need to worry about the link I provided. Just open the normal DDO client on September 1st and everything will take care of itself for you.

No, you don't need to. The two are separate clients and are not supposed to interfere one with another.

If you want, you can keep Lamannia installed for when they will preview Update 1 on Lamannia.

If you're currently playing the game, there is no need for you to download the client twice unless you have the standard resolution version and want the high resolution version, or you have the high resolution version and prefer the standard resolution to save space. The links in the OP are for closed beta participants and former subscribers who have deleted their client.

Short answer: No, you have not missed anything.
