Rakshasas feeling a little under the weather?

I can't believe no one has mentioned this before. But, its very obvious on the stationary Rakshasa NPCs in the Gianthold. The Rakshasas have their hands backwards! The right hand is attached to the left arm and the left hand is on the right arm. Thats gotta hurt! You can clearly see his palm and thumb facing out.

I suspected this way back when we first saw Rakshasas in the desert, but failed to take a screenshot when they died so quickly. But, now I have the above SS (and you can go look at the NPCs anytime).

So, is this intended? Some mishapen effect from the anthropomorphising of tigers to Outsiders? Or just a design goof? In any case, we better get some medical attention for these poor kitties. No wonder they always have a scowl on their faces!

Rakshasa's hands are backwards. They really are. Look in a DnD Monster Manual This is a proper representation.

TUrbine did a WONDERFUL job with the monsters in mod 4. This level of detail is awesome

Nevermind. Apparently, it's intentional. I guess the monster artists aren't cat lovers!

It's intentional, but I wish I had a dollar for every bug report about it.

It's intentional because Rakshasa's hands are supposed to be oriented this way.

That was my first thought. So, I checked WotC Art Gallerys. All I found was several depictions that weren't backwards and so, I made my post. At least I had reason to be confused.

But the line's right in their SRD entry:

Edit -- Well, though, try it, you can put your arm is the same position as him and have your palm up. I guess it could be right.

Even in mythology, the 'backwards' hands was the only way one could tell if a person was a person or a rakshasa in disguise.

Just to be clear, I knew they had backwards hands, what I had missed was that the one in the picture in the MM has forwards hands (or hands which could be interpreted to be forward).

Zakya Rakshahsas (or whatever they are called), one of the Eberron breeds, are capable of twisting their hands to a "normal" position to use weapons and stuff more easily. Otherwise, just like you can twist you hands palms up, I don't see why they can't twist theirs around to other positions as well.

Not to unduly necro, but I was just looking over the original MM and the hands are not backwards and there is nothing in the entry noting same. So, it isn't necessarily that someone need be a noob. Maybe the OP plays(played) with only older material.

That's from the first line of the SRD entry for it, so I can only assume that it made it into the book.
