Ohh, if I could cast any spell from D&D, it would be Unseen Servant for the win. I'd never have to get up to get a can of soda again.

Having gone through the initial 'D&D is teh EVOL!!11!' days, it does still amaze me that folks still buy into that mindset. Back when I was at Blockbuster, my one store manager was an avid Magic: The Gathering player so he and I'd often be in back working on deck builds (I loved my Green/Black deck). We did have a very staunch Christian on staff who did give me the schpiel of my soul was in jepordy because of my cards.

Then I showed her them with the example of sending a Sengir Vampire after the customer we just had who was ranting over late fees and following it up with some Llenwyr Elves for the mop up.

The first words out of her mouth was 'That's it?'. Turned out she'd never even seen what a card looked like and had only been going along with the rote.

From what I've read up since, that's most of that mindset, one person gets thier knickers in a twist and the others follow along without looking for themselves.

I still remember my grandfather being iffy about my playing D&D since he didn't see value in it until he saw I was reading up on medieval architecture and historical figures to bolster my game. Then it was different since it was now Educational with making me want to read up more on the basing.

And if I'm not mistaken, Wiess and Hickman who did some of the most memorable modules are Christian as well, and I wish I could remember where I'd read it, but they did work some basic redemption themes into thier writing.

Thanks for reminding me of that! My family actually talked to their minister about exercism for me. Not only had D&D gotten to me, so had The Hobit and Lord of the Rings. Add to that, my love of scifi and fantasy reading, and I was doomed to hell like satan himself. Also, the evil rock-and-roll had it's grip on my soul.

Their minister, though, was a realist. He explained to them that D&D was NOT evil, Tolkien was a classic author, and scifi and fantasy was as harmless as scribbling.

It's amazing how people get sucked into believing what others tell them without ever finding things out first hand.
