    Default Whisperdoom

looked for a whisperdoom thread but could not find one.

Tried to complete the whisperdoom quest last night. Almost got her killed but the party wiped shortly after our best player bailed on us right after she showed up. (Think he was mad because someone in the party picked up a collectable that we were all supposed to roll for...didnt think she knew about it so she just picked it up.)

Any strategy on how to kill her other than bum rush her?

whisperdoom can be easy, even on elite if you are prepared for her. generally i try to ensure my party has quite an amount of sp on the casters and clerics, tanks with boosts. when you recieve a message "kill whisperdoom" or if you party objectives have changed from "find whisperdoom" to kill her, it means she is near.

immediately at this point the cleric should cast deathward on himself and highest ac n hp tank and the party arcane (in that order). deathward prevents the dmg u get from whisperdoom's blight. during the same time the party arcane should load up with resist fire/acid on herself then the main tank. if the cleric is not offensive in nature, it is ok to skip him. the resist should stop the fire and acid spells that whisperdoom likes. if you are experienced enough, you can even resist up before you enter the lair and search her out actively.

next is the battle with whisperdoom. a spare fighter should be assigned to clear the mobs that spawn along with her as these will usually agro on the arcane while he/she is using AOE spells. spells that i load on whisperdoom are acid fog (slows her n deal some dmg, note solid fog if you do not have acid fog), followed by wall of fire, then shoot her with magic missile/scorching ray alternating. note that all should be maximise and extended for the 1st two so that you have a higher dps.

tanks should also boost and buff up. bard songs are nice as they can prevent whisperdoom's crushing dispair. hack away with pleasure and move back if you take too much damage. however, there need to be some one standing on your spot as whisperdoom will move up with you and we want her to stay in position.

for the cleric, heal spell n wand use alternate. save on the other cure spells as they may not heal as fast. only use them if the cool down on heal is not done. if you have a spare moment (when no healing is required) chuck in a blade barrier and searing light (double damage on her).

using this tactic, i'm able to finish her in 1-2 minute, often without death.

side note. i always use the lair entrance near the quest entrance so that i can go to the shrine to rest if i'm low on sp. also fighting whisperdoom there is preferable as the casters/clerics can shrine if they run out of sp during the fight (especially if you meet her when low on sp)

Seems pretty similar to what I've done in the past, too. My only difference is that I tend to use searing light a bit more aggressively. And of course, if you happen to have a vermin bane (or greater vermin bane) weapon, that's pretty handy, too.

i need to add that whisperdoom is pretty subceptible to stunning blow. caught her each time with the stun n got her down to 1/2 hp before the stun ends

    Unhappy it was bad..

Well as it usually goes I was in a good group, but it was the first time any of us had tried to kill her. Well after the group wiped a few times and then 4 left group the only player left (besides myself) asked his guild to help us out. We where doing it for favor anyway. Well we ended up getting 6 people again, but all it took was 2 of them. And I really mean it when I say that I felt sorry for the big spider this time. I watched as a fighter and a wizard took her down so fast it was sad. The fighter got buffed up and kept her busy while the Wiz worked his magic. All it was was fire wall that was maxed out (hight, maxed, etc..) and also used one of those potions that gives an extra 50% fire damage. All i could do is stand back and say "holy ****" and she was gone. I felt real small, but learned a whole lot.

solod this on my monk in 40 min, maybe less. then couldnt kill the spider cz it has regen. so i, being tenacious, and perhaps unwilling to believe the obvious, that i wasnt going to kill her, spent 20 min punching her face in.

finally i tried to drag her to the only trap in the place but she wouldnt leave the lair side of the instance.

bottom line, i called a guildy in to drop a wall of fire, tanked her in the fire and she was crispy spider in less than a min. her spawned mobs wernt that much of an issue, nor was she really cz i had a good acid resist ring which was why i was able to play with her for so long b4 i gave up and called for help.

if ur going to do this on ur monk, bring barkskin +3, a nice spell resist item, a acid resist item, and a few health pots. i got buffed at house j with the 30 min 150 favor buffs b4 i went in, but even when they wore off my items kept me safe enuf. if you get scared, run to the tunnel part of the dungeon as the spiders wont follow you there, but they will nuke you at the lair shrine. spiders will respawn even after you complete the 50 kill optional so beware of running thru the lair during your boss fight. no need to rain down trouble on your self.

Where you not able to stun her? It was pretty easy on my monk. Hit her with stunning blow and then took her down rather quickly.
