When you enter a quest area, in the window where you pick difficulty, at the bottom right, there's two icons side by side.
One of them is currently lit up as "public group".
Click the one with a lock next to it. Voila, you're now in a private group!

Unfortunately, it also happens when you are leader and someone else enters a quest first, and they have "Public Group" selected. Then you get a pop-up asking (words to the effect of) "Do you want a Public Group Message?" - annoying.

All you can do is to figure out who that is, and then ask that person to change to "Private" (and/or /kick them if they don't comply). Or always be the first to enter (hard to guarantee, sometimes).

Definitely see this come up now and then in my static group, even though none of us purposefully clicks the public option lol. I do wish they made it only changeable by the party leader.

It carries over from the last quest they were in, even if that was from a previous log-in. And the graphics hardly jump out to call attention to the diff.

Oh, there's a laundry list of things I'd like to see for Leader...

    o this
o confirm/deny Hire summons (same as any other join request!)
o /kick hires any time (bonus if this helps w/ the persistent-hire bug)
o /kick players not in same instance (regardless if "in quest/wilderness" - gets rid of perma-Pikers and AFK without re-forming)
o Special Alert and confirm/deny if a Join-Request is higher level than posted LFG limits
    o (probably some other stuff)

Edit - ALSO (while I'm wishing for pie)... change Wilderness quest screens so it's clear it's a Wilderness, and so limited to "Normal". Currently (to a F2P/1st-life Premium Account) it is indistinguishable from a Quest entry screen, so you're left wondering if you can run on Elite. Some few "Wilderness" entries are level-variable.

    +1000

absolutely, the only option to be checked and applied should be the one of the party leader, and the rest ignored.
