Default Cleric new player F2P concepts. CLR15/PAL4/FTR1 Fixes of old build with P2P

Cleric new player F2P concepts. CLR15/PAL4/FTR1 Fixes of old build with P2P

Experienced builders feel free to chime in on advice?

This build is currently at lvl30, so I am especially interested in advice for LVL28 and above for this build?

Disclaimer: I am a returning player and trying to figure out how to redo some old builds. I was never into competing with the Powercreep and just am patient with the game. So much so after this long break of 5 years or so I notice everything I worked so hard for is gimp. So I hope some of the suggestions help the casual new player or returning player that lacks the Max/Min experience, skills, reflexes, and knowledge of the game.

Radiant Servant Endless Turning is bugged at 10%. I timed it, so just 1 rank in this till fixed then take away +1 CHR or Martyrdom.
You can use KOTC in Heroic and use Divine Might there, but it is cheaper to get it from Warpriest and free up points for more Sacred Defender for Epic build.

    The History:

This is a fix to an old build using Axel's Human THF Melee Cleric. A shout out to Axel.

It was great back when. THF was conducive to a Melee Cleric. Keen Falchions were amazing at low level. They probably still are. It was easy with all the Keen Falchions laying around at Auction. (The Auction sucks now with Shards, but I get it to channel that money) Maybe a little Icyburst on the Keen Falchion and Low Level was a breeze with just a splash of FTR1 on a Cleric. It was a simple method of attack that allowed you to solo or help in party damage. Simple so you could divide you attention to healing those party bars as a first priority. It was also more fun when the party did not require your full attention for healing. You were healing and self healing before everyone had self healing except for Fav Soul and WF. You could melee and save spell points or Sound Burst at low level or Blade Barrier mobs at mid level and Divine Punishment bosses for a taste of spell casting. It was a versatile great all around build with a little of everything and casual.

It was a challenge to figure out what you could do and what you should do. Lots of fun. And you always seemed to have a healing slot waiting for you in many parties back then. There was some dread when they saw the melee levels thinking that the Cleric would not heal or be distracted, but usually they had no choice to be honest. A 'tell' usually put their healing concerns at ease. Some got to know my priorities were what they needed and an invite happened before a tell was needed. That was 5 to 13 years ago. Now I am back and what to do with these old builds. Most of my builds had some LR or LR+5 BTC in the bank from years ago.

PDK Iconic Pure Cleric with Mauls is the latest on Axel's post. It is not newbie friendly anymore or F2P and does not allow a lot of room for inexperience or weak old men like myself with lame reflexes and short attention span. What to do with my old Human Cleric with Pally Fighter splash using Axel's old build?

    The Build:

This Human Melee Cleric was left at level 28 till I came back. No pass lives. I don't TR. Not yet in years. He had 2 LR and 1 LR+5 when I came back. I took Fighter at level 1 then Cleric to15 then PAL for 4 at the end for saves in Epic and high level Heroic. At least the first LR I used got me War Domain and Holy Sword at lvl15. I don't recommend taking FTR1 at level 1. Reduces the flexibility later. If you do this PDK you have no choice unless you LR+1+. So how to LR fix this Human after coming back from a 5 year hiatus?

I had a few LR+5s handy also for the Human a versions of this in PDK. After playing a Axel Max/Min PDK Pure Cleric with Mauls I notice my version of it was more squashy with my 5 year old gear than the Human with Pally splash. The Human FTR1/CLR15/PAL4 was more survivable in Reaper 5 or less. Sacred Defender Tier 4 helps a lot to survive. My Axel PDK CLR20 was less survivable. I used 2 LR+5 with the old PDK versions of Axel's build. One at level 26 and one at level 17. The PDK Maul is better damage than other THF builds for sure and I might try this Pally splash on another PDK with Mauls. I just decided to LR this Human build for now and not use the LR+5. I ran the PDK Maul builds to level 30 and Level 21. The level 21 PDK CLR20 Maul with the Drow Weapon Master Maul is wonderful damage at level 21.

With War Domain FTR1 is less important now especially if you have Vistani Knife enhancements for Haste Boost. However, to fix this Human build without an LR+1 or more you can use that FTR1 for 8 Haste Boosts to increase attack speed by 30% that stacks with other Haste Items. That is very nice and Haste Boost critical for a Melee Cleric. I decided to invest in CHR and buy Feydark enhancements for this build. With Fey you can maybe Bladeforged this build too with Greatswords, but that is another build. I might like I said use Fey for another PDK Cleric with Pally splash.

    Some Problems:

The main problem now is with THF the Strikethrough change is so good that having a lot of Paladin attack clickies interrupts it. There is a lack of synergy there. The Cleaves help until the Pally levels, so at FTR1 maybe take Cleave early levels then free feat swap it for Force Personality later. It might help at FTR1 with mobs early, but with Pally you can use KOTC enhancements for Exalted Cleave until you get your Strikethrough up with Epic Destinies. You will need to get Feydark points in there to use Charisma for 'to hit' and 'to damage' when your Charisma is high enough to make it worth it.

Depending on Tomes you need STR17 eventually for GTHF. I have 3 feats at FTR1 since unfortunately this is the way I started this guy. This is fixing an old Human build that has a +5 Supreme Tome though. I had to rebuild him at STR15 because the +5 tome did not kick in. With so much invested in STR without tomes it might make sense to just stick with STR during level up. Maybe even stay with a STR based build and just take 3 levels of Pally to give you some survival on Human F2P. With Legendary gear that I don't have yet you could get the CHR high enough to get the saves up to take advantage of the PAL4 or PAL3. If you have tomes there is more synergy with Charisma. I left the game when +6 was the latest, but we are up to +8. The prices are up there and even just 1 STR tome or CHR tome can help this build. CON tome helps every build in the game.

For 28 point builds I would probably take CHR16, STR16, CON14, WIS10. 1 level up in STR and the rest CHR. Lets not forget that new players might not have the gear to get Wisdom up for Spells yet. For 32 point go CHR16, CON16, WIS10, but CHR18, CON14, WIS 8 will work with gear for Wisdom Spells at high levels. CHR CON Tomes would be nice with 1 level up in STR. With experience you will probably have the gear and or enhancement points by then to up Wisdom as you level to not be locked out of spells.

Now once you hit Epic Destinies I find the Pally KOTC enhancements has less synergy and is more complicated for Cleric with THF style. Exalted Smite is just not worth it on this build in Epic. If you build this based around Fury with Adrenaline you don't have to interrupt Strikethrough as much. Maybe a Adrenaline with Bouldur's Might on the Boss is worth a interruption of Strikethrough. Also remember your first job is to heal, so having a less involved attack method with less 'Click' attacks allows you to divide your attention to the Party health bars of the pure melee builds. I have Played variations of this build as PDK Maul with Pure Cleric and Pally FTR splash in Heroics and Reaper. KOTC attacks are too many click attacks with Smite or Cleave. Too distracting from healing and interrupts Strikethrough.

With Epic enhancements I find the Heroic enhancements for melee less used. Even Radiant Servant Aura seems gimp compared to Exalted Angel: Holy Presences... it is just awesome. It helps me worry more about healing others that are not around me. Angelic Charge is great for public travel and even better for escaping aggro. Run Run Running away.

In Reaper I still can't toe to toe with multiple Reapers and Bosses. The Auras help with residual damage, but standing in there with the pure melee builds is not happening with no past lives and 5 year old gear sets. At least not yet. In Reaper 5 the more healing the merrier. I still take Radiant Servant Aura because I am a Cleric, but some more experienced builders on forum think Pally Tier 5 might be better. With one Legendary feat to allow most Sword and Board heroic feats it may be a good move. Not there yet and for now Pally Sacred Defender Tier 4 is nice for surviving.

As one forum posted and I am not quoting, that if a Cleric can tank it is the best form of healing. Able to handle aggro and not have to heal others as much as a viable build method.

The SLAs from Exalted Angel along with the Cleric Radiant Servant SLA just make healing easier. With all the Casting Metas to the SLAs in free spell points these heals are the bread and butter of this Cleric. You give up CLR20. You give up Cap and True Resurrection for better Saving Throws and more hit points and PRR MRR. You will notice I take 2 Epic Strikes. Adrenaline and Holy Pillar. Holy Pillar is just 1 point and a good substitute for a spell point expensive Heal Spell when I have to sheath the Falchion and just heal. Unyielding Sentinel for Renewal and Into the Fray. I can even take a little outta Fury and use US for more Sword and Board survivable enhancements.

So healing is 3 single SLA heals. Radiant Servant Core 2 Cure Moderate Wounds. Unyielding Sentinel Renewal, and Exalted Angel Holy Pillar. 1 Mass Cure Moderate Wounds SLA from EA and Positive Energy Burst from RS. 2 Auras Holy Presence from EA and Positive Energy Aura from RS. And even a Lay-On-Hands from PAL4. All cheap healing that uses very little spell points. Lots of Turn Undeads with this Charisma build. All the healing helps with lag especially.

Some changes depending on gear would be to take Improved Critical of GTHF first if you don't have a good Keen or Impact version of your chosen TH weapon. The Fury Maul for Iconic PDK is great till level 18 for Improved Critical. https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Fury_of_the_Flame If not Impact for Races with Silvanus https://ddowiki.com/page/Silvanus then Falchions with Keen or Warforged/Bladeforged with Keen Great Swords. There are some named Great Swords with a critical range like a Falchion. https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Whirlwind as an example.

Other advice about gear as a returning player is to get Sheltering for PRR MRR and Fortification.

    The Gimp:

It still amazes me the Powercreep gave Paladins a 9th level Cleric spell True Resurrection as a 4th level Paladin spell, but Holy Sword is a nice trade.
Not having CLR17 to 20 and True Resurrection compared to Paladins that have True Resurrection is kind of a joke in the game. For now just Resurrection and a quick SLA seems sufficient. For a Cleric this might be gimp for this build for Reaper10, but it seems to take so much gear and pass lives for R10 anyway that I don't know if I will ever get there before I walk away from the game again.

*********** There is so much lag during prime time gaming that over healing is just a requirement. *************
