I understand the newer stuff them not wanting to be free permanently. I get that. But any adventure pack 5 years+ old at the very minimum...they really should just make that free permanently and I don't get why they don't. Can't imagine they are making much money off the sales of stuff like Restless Isles and Sorrowdusk in the DDO store. You'd think they'd be better off just making stuff that old free to improve the game experience for everyone...seems better long term financially so people have a better game experience and stay longer.

My guess is hype. If it's free all the time, then it's just expected and boring after a short initial window of being made free. If it's linked to a code, you can get fresh hype off it when it is available. I have no clue which is better for game health and longevity, but that's marketing's job to figure out and ideally get right.
I bought the Wild Hunt pack a couple of weeks ago after returning to the game, so "miss out" on it being free now.
That doesn't matter to me.
What matters is that, for some folks, this provides them with content they otherwise, particularly in today's "cost of living crisis" (as the war profiteering impacts by energy companies is presented here in the UK, compounded in our case by the economic insanity of BREXIT), perhaps could not afford or justify. I'm sure times are tough right now for a lot of folks. This might, in however much a small way, help.
SSG are to be applauded without reservation for this generous gesture IMO.
Whilst not taking direct advantage, I for one nevertheless appreciate what they are doing here.
I think there is another pack I haven't yet bought (hidden hand I think), and hadn't really intended to do so, but will do so now. One good turn, and all that...
Well done SSG!
Hunter and Hunted was Feb 2022, barely 1 year ago. I hadnt actually bought it because I didnt need to yet. Most players have enough content already that new packs are merely variety, especially if there's no really special loot (and they've been making an effort to not power-creep loot in new content too dramatically).
So from now on I'm going to weigh the cost of buying new content not as to whether or not its worth it to own the pack, but merely whether its worth it to not have to wait till next year to get it free. I'll probably be inclined to just wait for it, for the most part.

Might as well try to get your money back. Worst case is they say no, which puts you right back here where you started. So why not attempt a refund?[/QUOIi
I cannot tell if u are being serious or not with a new player but we both know what will happen if he demands a refund ....i may be wrong but if im not ....you sir are a jerk
When learning of two player's disappointment upon recent purchases FROM SSG
I advised them to CONTACT SSG
and ask for a refund/compensation FROM SSG
since these purchases have now been given away for free FROM SSG
In my opinion, the worst that SSG could reply would be that no, they will not refund their recent DDO point purchase of the aforementioned now free content.
Any nefarious or detrimental portending is yours and yours alone.

+1 to all the posts thanking SSG for making new players journey through the game cheaper and likely causing a lot more of them to stick around.
The product is not the game at this point it's the characters you create who run endless loops through the game.
If I had the code, I would have spent the same amount of money but my return on investment would have been a lot higher, since I could have maxed out more storage, gotten epic tomes of learning (which I still havent...), and otherwise gotten things I want, but on a shorter time scale.
It has the odd chicken and egg problem, but yes, I like this soft landing.
I may grow tired, and come back in weeks, months, years. I left 10 years ago and recently came back this past November. It was gruesome, because I had no adventure packs and all my characters/gear/quests/whatever were all locked behind vipwall.
The likelihood for me to return at that point was very very low, but for some reason I stuck with it. Now that I know I can participate in everything, letting my VIP lapse isnt a permanent game changer to never-come-back.
This is actually a savvy business decision to keep as many people in the game as possible during downtime on new product.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I appreciate that the below was broken down for those that did not know what you guys looked like.
Robert “Nohbob” Hess, Senior Game Designer II
Brent “Torc” Walton, Senior Content and Systems Designer
Sonya “Artemist” McCree, Game Designer I
Amanda “Tolero” Grow, Producer
Jerry “Cordovan” Snook, Community Manager
As for the free content you're giving out, it diminishes every dollar VIP's have spent buying the content at full price. I'm not really sure how you came to this business decision but it confirms that VIP is a a relatively useless expenditure.
My guess: Buy these "freebies" now because when they roll out whatever improvements they think VIP will be in the future, the VIP price will increase to $249 a year.

Here here. My dudes... There are no unicorns puking up DDO code and content, server farms and internet bandwidth, web managers and office staff. If you like playing DDO on a budget, and you broke down and spent $5 or $20 or $50 even in the last few months for something that is now free, be happy. You just became that puking unicorn.
I for one, am thrilled that this solves one of the biggest problems I've had... I don't mind buying content (especially when its on sale). But my friends often don't. Which means I'm hosed. This opened up a bunch of quests and series to me that I had already bought, but couldn't play because others couldn't join me. Now they can. That's good for all of us.
To the dude saying the 99 point specials should be more special... You have got to be kidding, right? You are complaining that a content pack that now costs literally one US dollar is only composed of several good quests and maybe a Raid? The horror... The horror!
Cheers all. Crawl on!
