I play on Orien, Sarlona and Khyber, and the lag on Orien since the transfers is horrible. It's much worse than the other servers. The difference with HCL is that in HCL players don't have tons of reapers points and PLs and all of that extra data must add to the complexity of rolls and slow things down.

On Cannih server there is almost no lag due to the departure of many players to Orien, while in Orien the lag makes the game almost unplayable (I tested it during the weekend).

I wonder if the DDO team thought about this issue when they made Orien a free to transfer server, and if they have a short term solution for it.

I remember many years ago that I quit due to lag and then years later I returned to find the issue resolved only because the server population drastically reduced.

I suspect many would be willing to pay double the subscription fee just to have a lag free instance. I do not understand why SSG seems to be skimping on servers.

We all know that load-balancing happens because every time HCL launches the HCL server is smooth as silk and most of the other servers suffer by comparison.
I think the real issue is that they have made some updates that are lag inducing, but since server populations are so low, it isn't as noticeable, so the updates remained. But when one server jumps up in connections, those issues come to the fore.

As for Ghallanda lag, I haven't noticed any lag in the last few weeks. Definitely no 4-5 minute lags that caused me to die.

Lag will always be around for an online game. I don't think you can get away from it.

Over the years I've noticed that a single bad connection to someone in your party can cause the whole party to lag. Ever notice lots of lag, but just in your party, then one player DCs and then reboots and the lag is better.

I can understand why someone would want to jump ship and move to Orien with the promise of full groups and raids anytime of the day as touted by the organizers of the movement.

I feel bad for all the original Orien folks that never asked to be part of the "Mega Server" movement but are now suffering the effects.

I do not understand the idea of waiting for the free transfers to be over and the lag will get better. It is not like transfers are happening a 100 times a second and that is causing the lag. If anything I would think once folks transfer and start playing, that is when server load with go up.
If it ain't broke, you're not trying hard enough.

Yesterday on Orien was particularly bad. I played most of the weekend with minimal lag (the occasional "swing and wait" once a quest, maybe), but yesterday I was in House P looking at events and the game just froze. Logged out and tried to log back in and was stuck on "Cleaning up old connections" for about 15 minutes. Killed the client and waited about 30 minutes to get back in. Once I did, I was still stuck until I teleported out of the instance. Once I was out, it cleared up. This was around 2pm EST yesterday.

Magic is a curious thing; full of hope and promise one minute, then someone summons a t-rex jet fighter to kill you.

I sent a thread to "service" describing all the same issues as everyone else, except I am on Argo. Yes the lag goes up and down but it is remaining fairly constant. If it does continue and does NOT get addressed, SSG will leave me no other choice but to stop playing again like I did several years ago, for several years again! This is not a threat but a promise, I have already stopped paying money for this game since CS does not exist and I am tired of being IGNORED as a player!!

The lag is unbearable today. Was rough yesterday but today is 5-20sec of lag that just does not end. I hope it's corrected because I can't justify VIP costs for this. Sucks too because I am a newly returned player.

Think you guys are overblowing the lag issue.

Yes, Orien is a bit worse after the transfer period but again, wait till the transfers are done and over.

I say this because you have to realize the metric ton of mules that are being transfered over and the 9,000 bank spaces each of these players are organizing and re-organizing. (haven't you ever noticed the slight latency delay everytime you pull something out of bank or your reincarn cache? yeah multiply that by hundreds of people doing that at the same time.)

    It'll be fine.

Now if the lag continues next month. Well, we may have a problem.

I just came back to the game after a 3 or 4 year break. I haven't noticed the lag being bad but my play time is late (mountain time zone) so I think it's way off the peak hours.

Over the weekend I was on for a number of short times at midday and noticed substantial lag a few times but I was just sorting through inventory and I think it was from switching mules several times. When it happened I'd just log out and start over after a few mules if I still had some time to mess around. That seemed to do the trick. But I was the only one in my instance (guild ship).

I do believe it will get better with time until them its maintenance play mode XD. Hope we dont lose too much on it.

I played for a few hours from 10:30am EST to 2:00 EST and didn't see any play-based lag at all. I did see long logouts as I was switching back and forth between mules and my main but none that made me force-quit the client.

I probably had a half dozen logins and logouts in that time so I had a pretty heavy client memory overhead and I thought the client performed very well except for the delays in logging out on the latter 3 or 4 characters as i did the gear transfers.

The bank was completely responsive with quick opening and closing albeit with no TR cache since the character has not TR'd yet on Orien.

My strong recommendation to players thinking about transferring is to ask themselves what their biggest concern on the current server is.

Do they worry about lag and client performance? If that is the problem on their current server they probably should not transfer to Orien.

Do they worry about being on a ghost server at times, particularly when an HCL happens? If that is the problem on their current server they definitely should consider moving to Orien.

Do they mostly solo or multi-box? Then they should stay on their current server and do that.

The thing to realize is that this movement option is likely a one time thing and if you choose not to take it, well that's making a choice that will define the rest of your play time on DDO. The alternative if you decide you want to move a bunch of toons to another server for any reason is likely to cost hundreds of dollars to accomplish.

This isn't true. The immense lag started the very day transfers began. It got a bit better after the initial couple of days, but after that was gradually getting worse to the point of being basically unplayable on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and even Mondays in my time zone (as it's still Sunday in the US). The only two days I'm somewhat able to play DDO now without crippling lag are Tuesday and Thursday.

It sounds terrible to be on Orien right now. Hopefully SSG will look into this.

Default Playing on several different servers

Orien has been the laggiest of the servers that I have toons on. It's been said that It should settle down after the transfer time is done, why is it that I see a complete server meltdown before that even happens, we still have eight days left and the lag is just getting worse.

The deadline is tomorrow, not 8 days away.

I will move to Orien from Thelanis. Today was the nail in the coffin.
    Soloing Stormhorns at prime time.
    Hit 30/32, nothing to do.
Checked who list, 2 raids going, all internal.

I will miss few people, but ultimately it won't matter.
Thelanis is also a lagfest, always was.
Orien is more laggy but hey, I'll trade that for people to play with.

Only transfering items will be a pain in the ass.
And 0 astral shards will suck too, but that can be helped.

Also seeking a no strings attached guild on Orien, Hand of Death Cannith style.
Tycoons sadly only have 3 deck ship on Orien. Must have a Kraken. Level doesn't matter.
