Attacked by mob in public market!

OK this is a first in 12 years i've been playing....I was at the auctioneer in the public market. When suddenly I hear attack sounds and start losing hp. It is a single velo-raptor dinosaur attacking me. I used aasimar healing hands at about 1/2 down and then was able to kill it.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Are world colliding?

Am I in a DDO twilight zone?

This will make survival on future hardcore seasons truly hard.

I don't know of a raptor, but the dino summon from this item from Skeletons in the Closet was bugged and could attack players in public areas. https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Doctor...s_Hunting_Horn

Don't know if that got fixed. I don't believe that summon is a raptor though? I thought it was a different type of dino but not sure.

I know the Eye of Vecna effect from Skeletons raid was stated as fixed in 57.2 but it is definitely still bugged so that can also still kill your character in public areas. 2 things can happen:

1) Either your friends are playing tricks on your character and using clickies like the above mentioned or something like that clickie from Shavarath that can make players dance in public areas. But since your character was attacked, I suspect that its the first clickie.

2) Some unexplained bug. Congratulations, you found a new one! You are certain its not the silver dragon landing in the marketplace fountain, right?

I seem to remember a few occurrences not long after launch with people somehow bringing monsters out of dungeons with them, but some older public events and minor wibbles around the demon invasion/market tent event aside I don't recall anyone experiencing random mob attacks in the market since.

It was definitely some small dinosaur, not the dragon that buffets you sometimes by mailbox area. No I was talking to auctioneer when this happened. I cannot verify this but I have been told by other players the dino summon would aggro players in public areas if it is summoned and then the character who summons it logs out.

was it cordovan spamming stuff leaving bags and such ?
. its been a while and ive never had it happen while i was on the correct server but he does that now and then.

There have been rare occasions when mobs could attack players in public areas, especially the market. This is usually for (very!) special events, but it apparently opened the door for bugs such as this.

There was a bug early w the HC Hounds where they (rarely) would follow players OUT of the quests. Hilarious.

No it did not look like that. It looked smaller like a velo-raptor. So maybe it is a new bug...

Just tested and can confirm this is happening. Summoned the dino on my ship, logged off and back on, and it started attacking me.

Also for the record, it can summon a raptor as one of 3 possible dinosaurs, but it's stealthed when not aggroed on anything so that's why you might have never seen it.

I actually find this very cool and wish it were a thing. Now no place is safe. I wanted the mimic event to be the skies opening up and hundreds of mimics falling all over the marketplace. Make it so, SSG!

Good to know, thanks. I was not aware the summon had 3 different possible dinos. This bug must be what happened to the OP then.

I don't know if devs are aware of the dino summon bug. I know they were aware of the venca eye bug but not sure if they are aware the bug still persists even after the attempted fix in U57.2. Hopefully a dev reads this thread.

I've seen summons do this in quests, where the summoner of a pet or hire leaves the quest, the summoned creature remains and turns hostile to the rest of the party.

I'd hope that is where the Devs should start their bug fix, at the heart of the problem.

Its random on what summon you get from the dino clicky. Sometimes you get a Ankylosarus, sometimes you get the raptor, sometimes you get the protosomething or another.... Fun times fun times.

Simple, all summoned creatures from spells and clickies turn hostile if the caster logs out. The dino-summoning item from the raid was never flagged to not be usable in public areas, so people use this to troll people in public areas

The item can summon both a protoceratops or a velociraptor

I remember when THTH came out, you could pull forge wraiths into public areas. They would kill players and multiply. If you could get them in the House J teleport site, you could fill the room. Had a guildy spend an inordinate amount of time trying to replicate that Ah, the good old days!
