Default I got "challenged" in game??

So I was running around the marketplace last night and I got a message on screen that said.. "Player XXX challenges your party. Accept?" with a "Yes" or "No" option.

I have never, in the 15 years of playing this game, seen this before. What in the world is it? Is this a PvP challenge (I was not in a PvP area)? Is this a special grouping? What?

It would be interesting if we could do "party vs party" challenges. Special quests where we could do "who kills more monsters" or "Which team beats x quest faster". Or some form of variable to that. Would bring another level to grouping and friendly competition.

Magic is a curious thing; full of hope and promise one minute, then someone summons a t-rex jet fighter to kill you.

Yeah it is a pvp challenge. Surprised, I haven't seen that notification in years. Party leaders can select people and choose a "challenge party" option, regardless of location. Kind of strange to do it with someone you have never met but, could be a nice way to meet some people.
Chaotic Good but in real life

I think this means you need to have a dance-off in the marketplace, or something
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

Tabaxi would win that... hands down.

Yeah.. It was weird. I didn't even think that was a thing anymore. PvP has been dead for 14.5 years. It was mildly active when I first joined (the Lobster was the hot spot for that), until casters became OP and then no one bothered.

Probably a new player experimenting with the UI.

I've always appreciated DDO's approach to PvP.
If I can read the dev tracker, you can too.

There is a setting you can uncheck called "accept challenge requests" but I don't know if it works for a party challenge. I've always had this unchecked and have never gotten one.

I think I maybe use it a couple times a year to test skills and/or show guildmates things you can't do in public instances. Very quick respawn and you also don't have to run to an outside area.

As for "WHY?!", you have to remember how big the "Feature Checklist" MMO cold war was back in 2006-2008. I can literally remember people rejecting trying a game because it "didn't have PvP" or crafting or player/guild housing.

    Feature added.
    Box firmly checked for DDO.
