Default THE BEST temporary Reaper fix

I heard Severlin say that turning the reaper tree on and off is causing the server lag.

I am all for just leaving them turned on. Too much gameplay suffers when we have lag. I mean we have jump puzzles timed jumps, Simon says music puzzles.

    This seems too extreme?

    Yes.

(Also, I think maybe a limit of 5 new suggestions per day per user on the forums. Does that seem too extreme? )

It would be quite powercreepy for raids. Most raids are run on Hard. Endgame raids on Hard would instantly get a lot easier if this happened. That's my first thought. That said, Elite raids may get run again if this change happened since Elite raids are never run at endgame right now...people just jump to R1 to get reaper tree benefits.

Obviously it makes non-reaper regular quests way easier too. Though if you have a ton of reaper points they're already likely quite easy.

Also did Sev say that turning them off and on and loading in was causing the lag, or just them being turned on in general? Not sure. I know they did make some changes to how they loaded in several updates ago so maybe that was it.

Maybe they could offer a forum potion so I can go over the limit. ????

    Yeah, It feels too extreme.

    BUT. . .

I wonder if there is a way to do all the calculations on login (or spending a reaper point) then switching to the reaper stats on entering a reaper quest? Probably take new tech but it seems viable. But then, I don't know the code so...

He said it was turning them on and off. I see your point on the raid thing. I honestly though don't care. Folks might get extra loot they might not have, but they also played content they wouldn't have otherwise and that might keep them distracted long enough so the team can agree on a way out of the reaper mess.

I concede the point that reaper pickers will try and some will succeed in completing solo raids. I just don't care. People solo raids all the time.

No. If they do this then the devs will have to reduce power elsewhere in order to balance things out and reduce power creep. This will screw over people who don't participate in reaper.

They could introduce "Reaper XP decay"

Every year (maybe for a Christmas gift), DDO subtracts 5 million RxP from every toon.

    Problems solved:

    • Power creep
    • Lag loading Reaper power when zoning into quest.
    • Adds the "Never ending grind"

Well, they've already got "VIP Decay" down pat, so this is probably doable.

Can't do that or Sev and SSG would have done it already.

There was always a border between the non-Reaper and Reaper side of the game. This was to quell the VAST amount of people who have no concern for Reaper and don't want to get involved. Turning them on would destroy the border and basically make non-Reaper people feel obligated to get into Reaper for power purposes.

Also, this would widen the difference between the have and have-nots and make newer players (or non Reaper people) feel like NPCs in the game. AKA just stand around and not be able to do anything because your Reaper completionist is mowing everything down with nuclear fire. (actually would exacerbate the Melee vs. Caster dilemma).

Turning them off and keeping them off is on par the better solution (although it's not a solution because the Reaper people would be angry).

Tin foil hat on - check. Tin foil underpants on - check.

The best solution would be to remove the reaper tables and make it a challenge mode.

Then create something like a reaper favour score and produce some awesome cosmetics which can be earned from running dungeons in reaper mode (10 points for a R10 completion, 1 for R1). You could get max 10 points from any dungeon in the same way that favour works.

A real challenge and fantatic bragging rights.

Let slip the slavering hordes - I've superglud my tin foil hat in place.
