    Default Help with Past Lives

    Hey All,
While I have played off and on since the game was released, I never really had a chance to focus on it and am a complete n00b when it comes to some of the dynamics of the game, especially higher levels and endgame.
With the sale on Otto boxes going on right now, I was thinking I would buy a few and try to get a few past lives under my belt to help get a head start on playing the game again.
But, I really have no clue on the best way to approach it. I was thinking I would TR 3-4 times using the lvl20 boosts but I am not sure if there is an optimal way to do it (races/classes/etc).

So, here are my questions and I would appreciate any input from the more advanced players:

    1. Should I just auto to lvl 20, TR and then rinse and repeat 3-4 times or should I do 20 and then 30+ then TR/rinse repeat? Pros/cons?
    2. Are there any races/classes I should focus on for these 3-4 TRs that will give me the best for my buck on leveling this toon normally after my 3-4 TRs?
    3. I have never touched Destinies. Anything to focus on here that will help my future lives?
    4. Anything I am missing?

I am sure there is more to this but, again, not really familiar with this aspect of the game.
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    1. I've just been doing TRs at 20, but I'm trying to reach racial completionist. A lot of people told me to get to 30 and then double TR. What I'm doing works for me.
    2. It really depends on what you're trying to build. Past lives as a wizard really don't do anything for you if you're building a melee class.
    3. I don't know. Haven't touched them either.
    4. Probably.

You're absolutely right that it would matter what my play style would be. I lean more towards caster/hybrid than pure melee. I am not in a guild (started my own little one man guild just for fun). Because of this, I really am focusing on solo builds. If I join a large guild, that might change.
Thanks for the reply and good luck on your completionist!

If I was starting from scratch today I would generally get to 20 twice to unlock 36 point builds then go to 30. Going to 30 will make future past lives so much easier as you can build up a healthy amount of reaper points each life. At a certain point reaper becomes easier than elite. I general I would recommend going to 20 only if you have already finished your epic past lives and doing racials (heroic past lives I would try to do as Iconics).

This is a brand new toon and I have no past lives on any of my previous. It would be a complete fresh start.
    Thanks for the info!

If you are soloing definitely TR twice to get 36 point builds and the ability to open instances on Elite.

If you want to play a caster odds are pretty good a Wizard life would help you for the +2 Spell Pen from the passive past life and the +1 DC to all spells from taking the active past life feat is not bad either.

There is no right or wrong way to do it. Some considerations:
    1. Getting two pls by going to 20 and TR gets you the 36 point build and gives you time to get some good gear and figure out your build.
    2. Eventually, you DO want to go to 30 because for an extra ten levels you get another PL, an Epic one. Each Epic sphere can have one active stance.
    3. Class completionist is now easier than racial completionist and gives you the same benefit, +2 to all abilities as a given feat.
    4. If you do work on class completionist, you can combine it with Iconic or Epic lives. You can also have one active Iconic stance (in addition to the four possible Epic sphere stances). Figuring out what Iconic PL stance will help you the most and doing three of those lives in conjunction with class lives is easy money--go 15 -30 three times, and you get the Iconic stance x3 power, plus the 3 class lives--all for 45 levels of questing.
    5. Reaper points are also really helpful and you can get them easy at lvl 30 cap; the value of doing Legendary reaper is literally ten times as much as heroic. And if you can join groups and do mid skull reaper at cap, the value is even higher. So, going to 30 even if you are focussing on class or racial completionist, has a secondary benefit of reaper points.
    6. Think about the style of play you prefer and prioritize past lives accordingly. Wizard is great for example for any caster, but does nothing for melee or ranged. So getting the PLs with the most impact to your style of play is something to plan for as you plan your future class/races.

The classes speak for themselves, as amply covered above.

I'll just add that if you do an Iconic PL (start 15, go to 30), you get that PLUS a standard class PL - 2 fer one! (If you don't own Iconics, nm.) Some Iconic PL's are pretty strong boosts, esp if you stack the max of 3.

They re-did them a little ways back, MUCH easier than they used to be. Now, just get to 30, take your pick.

The Auto-healing and Colors of the Queen (for DPS boost), both from Primal Sphere, are popular places to start, but there are several others that are attractive too (all on that same page).

Racials? 3 of the same race gets you 1 free Racial AP to spend every future life (and a +1 boost to 1 stat), which takes you over the 80 AP limit (assuming your current build has a decent Racial Tree that helps that build).

In all these, apply the same rule as suggested re "Which class?" - pick the one(s) that will help your next/future builds the most, just that easy.
