Default Penalties for leaving Korthos Island early?

Hey all, Im relatively new to ddo. My question is this: If i choose to leave Korthos Island early while on the snowy side, can i come back and still complete Miseries Peak and receive the final quest reward that will complete a set such as the devotion or angers gift set? I just purchased Keep on the borderlands and want to switch between playing both since they are levels 1-2.

Yes, you can leave and come back to complete later and get your end reward from misery's peak. I think most people do this (or skip korthos completely) to go grab ship buffs any any level 1 gear they keep in the tr cache.

I think the only (very tiny) drawback is that you won't be able to group with people still in snowy korthos.

I've wondered about this, too. Are there any differences (XP, rewards, quest or other opportunities, etc.) between playing through snowy Korthos Village/Korthos Island vs leaving and coming back to sunny Korthos to play through them? From the warnings you get when you try to leave one would assume that there would be some difference.

Or is snowy Korthos actually there to keep the little kids (the total newbies) from pestering the older kids (the experienced players in sunny Korthos)?

The original reason was to keep spammers from annoying everyone else - you had to complete Korthos at least once to access Guilds, Mailbox, General Chat, Auction House, etc.

Probably also a good reason for introducing astral shards as currency, make all the gold (plat) farmer/sellers disappear.

The only issue would be XP penalties re character level vs. quest level.

If you're level 3 or lower, you get full XP from Level 1 quests*. Once you hit Level 4, you lose the "Bravery Bonus", which is a +100% bonus to xp, effectively doubling the xp you get. So it's "better" to finish Korthos while getting near Level 4, and then hit The Harbor as you take level 4, rather than run some Harbor, make Level 4, and then go back to finish Korthos for half the xp.

However, no, running the quests on Snowy or Sunny side at the same character level would give the same xp.

(* all quests in Korthos village and Korthos island are Lvl 1 except Misery's Peak, which is Level 2, so run that before you take Level 5.)

If you're a caster, grab the Archivist's Necklace - a small emergency spell power battery that can be useful as long as you feel ~45 spell points is significant enough to carry it around.

Anything else, you'll dump it sooner than you'd think for something better. A +2 Saving Throw item is both desirable and common enough that you'll want to swap asap.
