    Default Bow Damage went down with U58 - Bow now uses Str as Damage mod regardless of Dex

    Running a Dex-based Ranger using a Bow right now. 41 in DWS, leftover Points in AA, Horizon Walker and Halfling.

    My damage output was great until U58. After update I noticed that I wasnt doing my usual damage any more, so I checked the numbers on sheet. Bow Damage mod now is based on Str while Attack still is based on Dex. So I have a +8 from Str instead of my +46 from Dex I had before. I know Ranger has the feat Bow Strength, but should it overwrite the default Dex-to-Damage even when my actual Str is way lower than my Dex is?

    Please fix this. Meanwhile I'll pause my Ranger, as its not much fun to play now.

    Side note while talking about Bow problems here:

    1. I still have the problem that sometimes no projectiles are getting off while fireing (no attack registering, no damage, no dice roll for attacking) - only can fix this with jumping or moving. Happens very often and is annoying, especially when leveling heroics, as bow already has the slowest attack animation speed. This is happening since the new bow animations kicked in some years ago and still hasnt been fixed.
    2. Also noticed that I'm rolling alot of 1s when attacking with a bow, so many times that I took the time to measure it by doing 1000 attack rolls and noting the dice results. 127/1000 rolls been 1s. Other numbers are spread in expected frequency. I think its not insignificant, but may have to do larger test pool to confirm this. This doesnt happen when I swap to a melee weapon instead.


    Update:
    Workaround for Str-to-Damage on Dex-based Ranger builds:
    Tier 2 Improved Weapon Finsesse for 1 AP inside DWS does give back Dex-To-Damage.

    Can confirm. Major Bug.

    Pure DEX-based Ranger (have Bow Strength), and Bow damage (not to-hit thankfully) now uses STR regardless of whether DEX is higher.

    i think they broke horizon walker its not marking targets for me, haven't checked the to hit and damage .

    Couple of days ago I TR'ed my main to an AA Ranger now this. Would be nice to get a free +6 heart so I can reroll into another class while waiting for this to get resolved.
    I dont want to even think able running to 20 like this.

    Targets still get marked, they just removed the huge spike over/through them. Tested this by marking a target and hitting it with 'Corner the Quarry' and the target became immobilized or banished as it should.

    Confirmed here as well. This is a MAJOR issue and someone needs to get on this like yesterday.

    Hello,

    my Ranger is currently lvl 20 and uses Epic Thornlord. My Bow shows normal behavior: Dex for attack and Str/Dex for damage!
    A Guildmate (lvl 32) has the same problem, his lvl 28+ Bows are all broken but with his old Epic Thornlord he has Dex for attack and Str/Dex for damage.

    Hope this helps a little bit.

    Default Update about Str-to-Damage Problem

    After some testings...
    The problem does not affect all bows, I have some that are not affected and still got Dex-to-Damage.
    • Epic Sapphire Sting (lvl 25)
    • Epic Bow of the Silver Flame (lvl 20)
    • Silver Longbow (heroic lvl 8)
    • Epic Thornlord (lvl 20)


    The following Bows only giving me Str-to-Damage:
    • Epic Serpentbranch (lvl 25)
    • Chaosbow (lvl 28)
    • Legendary Inferno Sniper (lvl 29)
    • Aerania, the Boltbow (lvl 29) - my main bow with filigrees


    *Edit: You can see which bows will work when you check their tooltips (from inventory/bank, not equiped). Those showing a Damage-Mod will work, those not showing a Damage-Mod at all will use Str because of the Bow Strength feat. So its not the feat not working or overwriting Dex-Mod, its many bows now missing their default Dex-to-Damage modificator.

    Add the Attuned Bone Longbow (lvl 31) to this list. I'm only getting STR to damage with it.

    I can only attest to CC bows and all of mine are showing Dex to hit and Str/Dex to damage.

    Good to know that Thornlord (Epic) is still showing Dex to damage as I use that until I get to Pinion.

    However, this CERTAINLY needs to be corrected ASAP!!!

    Agreed...or maybe something less...BIG. It's a pain when you can't tell what's "marked". As I said though, abilities that only work on "marked" targets seem to be still working as they should.

    We looked into this thanks to your reports and have a fix ready for an upcoming patch. We are working on a patch for tomorrow that won't include this fix due to timing, but it'll be in the next one.

    What will be fixed?

    The DEX to damage issue?

    The missing visible "marked target" symbol?

    Or both?


    Hopefully BOTH will be reverted back to what they were.

    Default Workaround for Str-To-Damage on bows, at least for DWS Ranger

    Hey, I found a workaround for the Str-To-Damage issues for bows, working if ur in DWS tree from Ranger.
    Tier 2 Improved Weapon Finsesse for 1 AP, even if it states its not needed for long-/shortbows, does give back Dex-To-Damage.
    I did put one point in there - until the fix will hit servers. Hope this will help some people until they fix that thing.
