    Default Purchase Iconic Shadar-Kai

I have a friend who is thinking about starting up in DDO. He wants to play a Shadar-Kai. I am finding conflicting/missing information on how he can get it.

    1) Purchase just the Iconic for 1295 DDO points
    2) "Purchase Shadofell Conspiracy Complete Pack - Collectors Edition" <- This is not available in the DDO Market
What is in the DDO market is the "DDO Trove" of expansion content. However, there is no mention of the Iconics being available there, just the content.

So, if a new player wants an Iconic, do they HAVE to purchase it with DDO Points? Is that the only way now?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes. That Collector's Edition is no longer available.

The Ultimate Fan Bundles for the more recent expansion packs on the DDO Market still include Iconic races: Sharn UFB has Tiefling Scoundrel, Feywild UFB has Razorclaw Shifter, Isle of Dread UFB has Tabaxi Trailblazer.

But the first three expansions (MotU / Shadowfell / Ravenloft) are only available on the Market in the Expansion Trove bundle; and the older Iconics which came with their now-discontinued Market bundles have to be purchased from the in-game DDO Store.

First, there are Sales several times/year - I strongly suggest waiting for those, you get MUCH more for your coin (or DDO Points).

That said, you and your friend need to consider several unique qualities of Iconics...

    1) Iconics want to start at Level 15. They don't have to (they can stop and choose not to take all 15 levels), but they have the xp to do so, so holding off means they earn ZERO xp until they hit at least Level 14.

    B) Iconics cannot Reincarnate until Level 30. This means that if you and your friend are running together, you are not going to TR (or RR) at 20. Or, you're going to do it alone, while he continues toward 30.

iii) Iconics start with a fixed class; for SK, that's a starting level of Rogue. So any build starts there. (There are ways to get around that, but they involve spending more DDO Pts for every life.)

Last) Iconics can travel freely between Eberron (the DDO "home world") and Forgotten Realms ("Eveningstar") at log-in. Log out and choose the other, no problem. Not a huge problem, but non-iconics will have to figure out alternate ways to get there (and that may mean waiting until mid-teen level to do so).

All things considered, it might(?) be better for your friend to start with one of the free classes (there are some good ones!), hold off for a Sale while you both get to 20, and both of you plan to go with an Iconic life for his 2nd life (easily done after a Heroic Reincarnation).

C-Dog, I agree with you. I have been playing DDO for 15+ years, and know what's involved. My friend can be a bit 'stubborn' to put it mildly and wanted the Iconic the moment he joined. Now it's his call if he wants to spend $$$ to get the DDO Points up front to purchase it. I also told him about the specials, and it didn't seem to matter. Well, it is HIS money

So long as he understands the potential conflict/difficulties if he expects to run with your character.
