    Default Oath of the Forest - Knight of the Chalice

    From the Wiki:

    Faith of the Forest "You now count Rapiers, Falchions, and Shortbows as Favored weapons, regardless of your Deity, for the purpose of everything in the Warpriest tree, the War Soul tree, Favored Soul Grace of Battle, and Favored Soul"

    What about Paladin Knight of the Chalice Tree?

    I am pretty much sure that at one point this did indeed apply to Knight of the Chalice even though it wasn't listed. In testing it currently doesn't seem to apply. I have spent way too much time trying to figure that out and every time I get to point where I have convinced myself one way or the other my next swing shifts me back to being unsure.

    For the Record:

    Post Stat Squish and other combat changes I have yet to understand the damage I should be doing and appear to have lost about ~300 points of base damage since update 52. Yet we have some new Knight of the Chalice updates, imbues, Epic Destiny... I am just not exactly sure what is missing.

    I don't always get the Light Damage from Slayer of Evil with a Falchion. It seems to go away sometimes. With a Greatsword in testing I have never lost the Light Damage, albeit that is just testing against a training dummy. Sometime restarting the Slayer of Evil or re-equipping the falchion and it comes back, sometimes.

    If I reset my Wood Elf Tree, in essence lose Faith of the forest, I should lose my favored weapon damage from Knight of the Chalice, but instead of losing 4 points of damage I only lose 2.

    It is almost like it is splitting the difference.

    Sounds like a common bug with toggled abilities where they lose their effect in certain conditions and have to be toggled off and on again in order to work.

    One thing that can cause this is the lag in loading all of your abilities when you first login. For example you login at an especially laggy time on your server. The imbue loads but there's a delay in oath of the forest getting loaded so now the imbue toggle doesn't work due to the favored weapon requirement.

    Could be something else causing it, /shrug.

I've been beating on 2 training dummies with multiple falchions, and even switching to greatsword for a few swings to see if switching weapon types affects it, and I got my light damage on every swing on both the main target and the dummy getting hit with striketrough.

    Did you actually turn the Slayer of Evil Imbue on? Like actually put it in a toolbar and made sure the toggle was on?

    Long Answer Sorry.

    I have 5 characters currently I play in the reincarnation hamster wheel, the character I am having an issue with has been kept at Cap for a good while. I have been considering doing a Epic Reincarnation and maybe a Heroic Reincarnation with this character and a fast run back to cap to get my third Epic and Heroic past lives and leave the character at cap again. As this particular character has been so affected by the stat squish as it is dependent of five stats, I have been trying to figure out how to rebuild them. I just can't make my current numbers work.

    Yes Slayer of Evil (Imbue) is active on the toolbar. This may be the "known issue". I don't always get the Light Damage, and even if I reequip a weapon or change to a great sword. It is like it has a mind of its own.

    When it comes to the damage:

    Swinging at a Test Dummy looking at the results as well as looking at the Character Sheet and Inventory to determine what numbers I should suspect. I also pay close attention to damage I produce in the various quests.

    Slashing Damage, post stat squish, initially was in the 1,100 to 1,200 range for a non-crit, this has dropped to 725 to 775. There was this intermediary step in which I was getting 950 to 1000 last fall. I get similar numbers on mobs in "elite" as well as the training dummy.

    I can sit here and post numbers to the cows come home, I just can't explain.

    When I look at my weapon I expect my +Damage modifier to be +29 for a Falchion, including all the bonuses. The Great sword with the same enhancement bonus shows up at +21, the difference of the Wood Elf Weapon Training and both are missing ancient power. However the Falchion only shows up at +20. Which I would like to say it is the Six from Knight of the Chalice, but it would require the Falchion to only be +19. The numbers don't work and I can't figure out why.

    I have experimented with resetting enhancement trees and Epic Destines and in the end I cannot make the numbers work one way of the other.

    There are times when my slashing damage numbers go up to 900 to 950. I have no idea why. Yesterday my character sat AFK at the training dummy for 30 minutes or so, when I came back and took one swing at the dummy to wake up I had a non-crit hit for 928, this after an hour plus of making one change after another and getting a consistent 750 points of damage. I take the character out and beat down the Allosaurus in The Curse and the Captive Crustacean and get 900ish slash damage. I relog in later and I only get 725... Same Mob same weapons, same... Hey look I have ransacked that chest again, doing my testing.

    Now I am not a pure Paladin so I wonder if that is causing problems.

    Well, you're kind of going into a space that goes beyond: Are Falchions gaining the benefits of being a favored weapon if you have "Faith of the forest" trained. When you go beyond you have to ask a bunch of questions: Did I hit? Did I crit? Did I hit on a 19 or 20? Did I doublestrike? What was my Melee power at that time?

    So, let's take a step back and just look at the Favored Weapon bonuses. My Wood Elf Paladin is currently level 15, and here's a screenshot of all the pertinent Favored Weapon and Elf Weapon Training bonuses:



    The important Favored Weapon abilities are going to be the KotC talents (Righteous Weapons, Holy Combatant, Knight's Training, Ascendency) and the Feats (Child of Faith, Beloved of the Divine)

    All of these show up in the combat log:


    The screenshot does look like "Favored Weapon Attack bonus" and "Righteous Weapons" is added, and then "Favored Weapon Attack bonus" is removed. (I believe this is what the note in Faith of the Forest is referring to.) I'm not sure where "Righteous Weapons" is coming from as that's a talent from the Warpriest tree.

    Here are the to hit and damage bonuses that I get with a Greensteel Quarterstaff (Not a Favored Weapon), Atonement (Favored Weapon), and a Greensteel Falchion (Favored Weapon)

    Weapon.................To Hit:....Damage:
    GS Quarterstaff......+89........+72
    Atonement.............+98........+80
    GS Falchion............+101......+86

    And here are the expected bonuses I should see for Favored Weapons and Wood Elf weapons:

    So, yes, "Faith of the Forest" appears to be working. But, there's a discrepancy of +1 to hit and +2 damage somewhere. And that question needs to be approached as: Is there a missing Favored Weapon bonus, or is something giving a bonus to all weapons that should be typed as a favored weapon bonus? That question is probably best answered when I get back to level 32.

    My guess would be Knight's training.


    Also, Elven accuracy is a percentage to hit, so rounding down will occur somewhere.

    That was my thought, but the extra damage is what's making me scratch my head.
