Eh you're right.
Also interesting is the number of people currently online on each server.

Did someone ask for documented records of transfers? https://www.ddoaudit.com/transfers
We have about 1300 transfers to Orien and 750 transfers to Sarlona in a day. This is excluding transfers straight from HC.

It is still very early but lets examine the results from the first 12 hours.
Its fair to assume that some of the transfers are "xp mules" and thus not real transfers - and that Orion and Sarlona each have half the numbers of those compared to the other servers. Based on the current numbers a rough estimate is 100 such xp mule transfers from each of O and S and 200 from each of the others.
Based on that the remaining rough estimate of the actual transfer come out at:
Ghallanda 548
Wayfinder 123
Cannith 112
Argonessen 90
Thelanis 78
Khyber 48
Sarlona 29
Orien 4
So, Ghallanda and Wayfinder (relative to size) are the major losers, and Orien is the big winner with Sarlona the minor winner. Others are barely affected.

You can use the audit settings to get a "active character" setting which will eliminate bank toons. Orien gained 210 "active characters" today.
Ghallanda lost 150 "active characters" today.
I'm not sure if the active characters would count someone like me though, who *is* transferring toons I will play but hasn't been playing in the last 3 months. (I played 8+ hours today.)
Clemit (the audit dev) has stated on the forums that the "active characters:"
"excluding characters based on a set of criteria including how often they move areas, run quests, and level up"
The next question is how many characters the average person has. I'd say it is 2.5. So we would even divide that active characters number again. Today, Orien likely gained 100 players. Ghalland likely lost 75 players. This can be very impactful given how low our populations even are at this point. The players moving would be "high engagement" players anyway, since they are even aware of the opportunity/problem of the server transfers.
Clemit stated that he doesn't try to approximate the number of accounts, but IMO we are only missing the average number of "active characters" per account. A simple poll could estimate this if we got 100+ results.

That is some very interesting statistics that have just been added. I am guessing DDOAudit has better data than SSG have themselves at this point. I am guessing SSG has DDO Audit as a favorite tab just like the rest of us do.
2.5 sounds about right. Many just have the one, some have 2-4 and very few have more.

Some players split thier time between servers, even before "FREE TRANSFER GATE". I wonder how many players are finally just consolidating after previously bringing over just a few characters to either Sarlona or Orien.
Also, with these numbers representing the first 12 hours, the results of 3 weeks should be interesting. I would expect to see a decent up tick this weekend. I bet there are many that want to transfer, but are holding off for fear that the system is broke. After enough test subjects, the confidence of others will reassure thier choice in transferring.

If someone has to move their entire shared bank ingredients cache, that would take about 15 mule transfers alone.
Shifting out item mules would also bring forth a couple of dozen characters.
I'd estimate 20 to 50 chars per person that is moving.
With 1200 characters moved so far that's roughly 20 to 60 players moving.
But time will tell.
So far I have noticed a drop in LFMs for CET player time.
Bellcurve. The initial transfers were all planned by people adamant about moving along with guilds. The next batch over the course of a week to week and a half will be the big one with 1.) people realizing it's safe to transfer. 2.) people realizing everyone is leaving and that orien truly has an enormous population.
Final week, will be a trickle as the final stragglers move on in.
Final tally for Primetime U.S. (7-10 PM EST) weekday.
1.) Orien ~600+
2.) Sarlona ~450
3.) Argonessen ~325
4.) Thelanis ~275
5.) Khyber ~ 275
6.) Cannith ~ 150
7.) Ghallanda ~100
8.) Wayfinder ~ 10
Heh, I just checked this morning and the Default server has changed to Orien. Maybe it's just the normal rotation and it is a conincidence, or maybe some of the devs also want a merger but were over-ridden and this is there way of making it happen. Who knows. I was surprised to see that though.
interestingly there looks like there was around 1900 transfers from regular servers to Orien yesterday, but an additional 400 transfers from Hardcore to Orien as well.
Fat chance. Wayfinder has been extremely empty for years without a real merge. SSG does not seem to mind very empty servers.
Besides, a possible outcome is a ghost town for raids / R8+ players but no significant loss for casuals. So the overall population might not drop all that much but the pool of end game players might drop significantly.
